Case in point for that chance across goal late on (and you'll have to forgive my atrocious MS Paint skills):

Look at Lyle's positioning and stance as the ball gets played in

Not only should he be far closer in between their #s 18 and 26, but he has all is weight going backwards!

Look at the difference between him and Yates - Ryan is clearly pushing forward against his marker whereas Lyle is almost statuesque

If he'd been in-between those two defenders and on the front foot (as a striker should be otherwise what's the point) he'd have had an easy tap in

This should be basic stuff for a striker

I actually think that everything that you've said there, is because he doesn't want to be here.
He's 32 in March, probably being paid the most he ever has in his career.
He's not going to get a better deal elsewhere unlike when he was at Charlton.
No Prem or even top Championship team is going to come in for him are they? The talked about places he was linked with were Birmingham and Bristol City.
So, there's very little incentive for him to really work hard for the team. The fans aren't arsed about him and he's not arsed about the club.

I do appreciate the irony though that the things being said about Taylor (lazy, bad attitude etc..) are often said about Grabban, except Grabban actually has a history of delivering and even though he's two years Taylor's senior, still works harder.

Swan's probably not the answer, but Brennan up front is an interesting proposition. We'd certainly not be lumping balls up to him so there would be no chance of that sort of style.

Has anyone actually called him lazy - or having a bad attitude?

I think he always works hard and gives his all for the team.

He is just rubbish.

Very impressive diagram.

Have you ever thought about working on Sky Sports, Blondie? ;)

Well. I don’t think you’re wrong, but Taylor is a penalty spot striker - he drops deep into space for pullbacks. We’re set up for Grabban, who is a late run into the 6 yard box striker.

Lyle went *exactly* where he should be if Brennan pulls that ball back rather than going across the line. Like this:

They just have different MO’s for strikers. He nearly scored from a corner doing the same thing, which Grabban probably wouldn’t do.

Fair enough, but if he thought a penalty spot pullback was coming through then he's even further away from where he needed to be!

He's in no-mans land there whatever ball were to come through

He looks like he's trying

But never to any effect

He is rubbish though, absolute dog shit

He gives the appearance of trying. But as many have said - he shirks the actual work.

- The headers he should be going up for where he might get clobbered.

- Taking the knock from behind and fighting to staying on his feet to lay it off to someone else.

- Working to give an option for a pass, pulling defenders out of position.

Those things are strikers bread and butter. Even before putting the ball in the net. He does none of that. He chases lost causes, pointlessly jumps in front of balls being cleared, and falls over at the slightest touch while mouthing obscenities at the referee.

He’s a waste of a shirt. And I think he’s a bit of a bell as well, so I’m even less patient with him.

Except he didn't drop back to the penalty spot, he stayed exactly where he is in the picture

Penalty spot is where Yates or Garner should be. Striker should be going for the tap in.

Looks like he is about to sit down, or drop a deuce.

Thing with Taylor is he's a good League 1 striker. In the Championship with Charlton, most of his goals were either set up by Leko or penalties. Leko would beat defenders down the wing, drawing others out to close him down which left more space for Taylor when the ball was played into the box.

Taylor is not a lazy forward, he is also not a forward who makes goals himself, holds the ball up, heads the ball, or plays up front alone. When he first came to Forest you could see the frustration on his face, he was getting upset. Now he just seems resigned to the fact he isn't going to fit in here.

Time to give Swann or Larsson a go instead.

The Big Ron quote about Carlton Palmer applies to Lyle Taylor too, "he can trap a ball further than I can kick it".

Absolutely nothing sticks to him and he falls over a lot.

The irony being that BFR ended up signing Palmer most places he went didn't he? He even brought him here when he was almost old enough for a walking frame. So he clearly rated him regardless.
