Taylor looked totally fed up during the pre-match and half-time warm ups.
Prior to last night he had figured in the starting line up against Coventry (scored a goal), and Bournemouth (led the line really well), so why last night was he relegated to the bench and my bette-noir, Louis Grabban, was handed not only the starting berth, but also the captaincy?
And did anyone else see the look on Taylors face when CH subbed off Alex Mighten?
If a look said "contempt", Taylors was it.
It is no comfort that Grabban's part was invisible last night - not a ball forward won, not a shot nor a header fired off.
Taylor has to start each game now, even (apologies for blasheming here) play Taylor and Grabban side-by-side in a 4-1-3-2 formation.

Come on grabs was all over the play chasing the ball down? In fairness I can't say how well Taylor did in the last 2 games as I didn't get a chance to watch them but grabs did work hard yesterday.

You got to have noticed how physically we were losing so many of the match ups yesterday?

Absolutely spot on.
The Championship is a division dominated by physical, athletic, aggressive players.
Forest looked like a powder-puff army of apologists yesterday.
And when we did get physical, we did it with no finesse.
Colback's (forever Colbackwards after a witty wag on here coined the moniker for him)studs up, out of control retaliatory lunge right under the ref's nose, was crude and should have been punished with a straight red.
As for Grabban and his work rate, I id watch him chase and harry, but it was always well deep.
I did not see him put himslef about where it matters for a striker.
But to be fair to him, he isn't that sort of player.
And Ayala is an excellent centre-back, well versed in the black arts of centre-back-dom.
We are cyrying out for a big option like their number 9, who may not be pretty to watch, but boy did he unsettle our back 7.

Just not a fan at all.

Nothing sticks with him upfront, absolutely nothing. Spends his entire time fighting defenders and not focusing on the ball, when you are playing against defenders like Curtis Davies & Jagielka is there anything more they would want than that.

Just doesn't seem to have a brain in the way he plays, he covers ground but it feels like half the ground he covers is just him chasing stuff on his own and not pressing as a team (although that may not all be his fault).

The ball stuck better to derby’s youngster striker compared to Lyle, I guess he runs a lot?

Not a fan either. Seems to want to complain to the ref more than actually keeping his eye on the ball.

I've been a supporter of his, particularly last season when he showed glimpses but I'm loosing faith in him. As you say nothing sticks and he doesn't look like he. could buy a goal at the moment. Its a bloody hard job playing on your own up front though, I think people forget that because its now the norm but I don't think we have anyone capable of that role now, given Grabbans age and the fact he was never particularly suited to it anyway.

It is a hard job. But Taylor doesn’t help himself by looking for fouls that aren’t there when he should be staying on his feet and holding the ball up - or at least challenging for the ball rather than make then opponents life easier by laying down

I agree-for a big guy he isn't half a lightweight in contact.
I think for lots of them its how they are coached these days. I also hate the way that Johnson and Mighten are always looking to go to the floor. Sure they do get fouled a lot but in Mighten case particularly I think its affecting his development because he never seems to get to show his output as he does something good and then he's on the deck...

It's amazing how Derby's forwards always had space when the ball arrived at their feet.

But in the first half particularly, every time the ball went to Taylor he had a big centre half up his jacksy, who then just knocked him over.

Now he either is rubbish, or CH told him to play like that. Take your pick, depends who you like more.

Even if you are being told to play like that you mix things up if you are getting no joy.

Like I say I just don't think he is a very clever footballer.

Val that's a bit unfair.

Of course Hughton didn't tell him to play with a centre back up his arse-thats what they did and thanks to the ref they got away with kicking all of our forwards all afternoon. There should have been a yellow about 15 times in the first quarter for the. sort of stuff they were dishing out and that would have settled the game down and allowed our forwards at least a fair chance of playing. The ref was an utter cretin and with that grinning idiot Rooney on the side egging them on I'm surprised it didn't boil up into either a fight or a leg breaking 2 footer from one of their thugs...

Taylor had a bad game. I'm really disappointed in him because he looks a shadow off the player who played for Charlton. If we could get a decent number 9 inI'd definitely get rid, but replacing him with a 20 year old from somewhere in Turkey whose scored 3 gaols in 47 games is not an upgrade....

I said "take your pick". You've taken your pick.

The most disappointing thing for me is he played in a struggling Charlton team, that eventually got relegated, and he scored 11 goals in 22 games.

That's league games.

Is it him, or is it us??

The one thing that Brian Clough demanded from a striker was instant control-you can either control it or you
can’t.
It’s a no from me.

Most of Taylor's goals at Charlton in the Championship were either from Leko's work down the wing, or the 4 penalties he scored that season.

With the garbage we have up front I'm ready to say dump all 3 of the senior strikers and throw Swan, Larsson and Dale Taylor in the deep end. I doubt the young lads could do any worse.

An aging Grabban is miles ahead of Taylor for me. Especially given the shite style we play. Taylor can bring down a long ball in much the same way a kerb can.

There's probably a half decent forward there but not in the way we play.

Bereft of confidence, any in form striker curls that chance he had the defender gifted him into an empty net

They have both been piss poor for way to long now and we must have the most impotent strike force in the division. No striker in before the window shuts and I don't see us climbing out of the bottom 3.

The young lads wouldn't make a jot of difference-we need a couple of decent strikers QUICKLY(even if we sacrifice Taylor).

Us I think. How many times have we signed a player who was good elsewhere, only to see them flop.

Post Antonio, who have we bought in recently that improved and was then sold on?
