One of those ‘too good for the championship, probably not quite good enough for the prem’ players. His lack of pace really undermines everything he does well - he’s a fantastic defender but against players with that extra 10/15% agility and physical attributes at the elite level he seems to be just short of what you’d want for a team aspiring to move upwards

I thought that would be the case for him when we moved up a level but the reality on the pitch was different. Formed a good pairing with Boly before both got injured at Fulham and his passing is surprisingly good.

As a backup CB I'm more than happy with him. No need to flog.

This echoes my sentiments. Not sure why we would be looking to get rid.

Agree with the above. Niakhate's different class, but I like Scott and think he's a decent squad member. I guess it comes down to accounting: Worrall's played on the left a fair bit, so if the club think they can get a few quid and not leave themselves short, then it's up to them. But I feel it's at least a season too soon.

I'm happy with him as backup though if we upgrade our options he's the lowest hanging fruit for me - as others have already said he's a solid defender, good passer, strong as an ox and a decent sort, though he scares me against genuine pace and to a much lesser extent quick feet.

I'd want more than 4-5m for him though - double that.

It’s not about people not giving him a chance or turning on him or binning him off or any other agenda. We have a huge squad and need to trim it or the club will be in the shit.

We simply can’t keep everyone, especially if we drop 20m on another CB. We need to balance the books so if you can get good money for a backup then you have to consider it.

There centre forward yesterday gave him the run a round a couple of times yesterday, got to close and was turned very easy leading to his yellow card

We have three fit centre backs in a team that plays with three centre backs.

I’m looking at this as gradual improvement of the squad all up. McKenna definitely is fine as a 3rd/4th choice CB at this level, and probably on his day pushes for a slot in the starting 11, but if we were to bring in an elite player that slots immediately into our 11? Of the CBs we have today, McKenna is probably the one to go.

That’s no slight on my love for the player, the man or what he has given us since he joined; it’s the cruel nature of the premier league that if you’re not the best of the best you’re always at risk.

Plenty of grit and determination, but always the feeling that there is one mistake or slight lack of ability in him. Same with Joe Worrall, we need upgrades.

If there is anywhere you need real quality, it's through the middle of the park from goalie to centre forward.

If we get 5 to 6 million for him, we’ve doubled our money on him, he did his job and good luck to him. 6m plus another 4m or so from Panzo and Mbe Soh and that’s halfway to a top centre half arrival.

I wouldn’t trust Wilson to buy anyone though, so I’d only sell once his replacement is in the building.

I don't think it's about having a mistake in him more that he has to play at 100% every week just to be able to compete, you can see it in a lot of players where it takes a huge effort just to be able to do the basics - whereas the players at home at this level make it look effortless.

You just compare to our other CB's, Boly & Felipe make it look effortless and can probably afford a few % drop, Worrall & McKenna need to be at 100% just to compete & Niakhate is probably somewhere in the middle.

He was a man mountain in the Championship, but the physicality of the Premier League is just a step up where his dominant attributes just haven't translated.

He cost us around £4m, £3m when he signed and since another £1m when promoted.

Given his age, now has some top flight experience, also a left footed CB, we should be looking at around £7-£8M at least.
Agree, he is a really good player I just feel like we are outgrowning him at the current time and he isn't keeping up fast enough to stay around.

Aina & Aurier both can play as a CB if needed. I’d be happy with Aina at LCB & Williams at LWB until we get another LB/LWB in

Grenville Morris
Yeah, Aina's had a good preseason at LWB but I don't think we can suddenly say he's ready to play CB in the Premier League.

I think Aurier is better as a RCB than a RWB anyway.

When he played there & Williams played RWB it got the best out of both players I thought.

He gives you more balance and lets you play as a 4 with the ball / is comfortable being dragged out wide.

I think you’re right on McKenna - I think Joe is probably running at 85/90% with a tiny bit more headroom. Joe, I think, had the physical attributes to keep lowering that base effort level where I don’t believe McKenna does

I'd let him go if we have a couple of strong signings coming in, but it's not looking like we are at CB at the moment.

Felipe
Niakhate
Boly
*possible new CB*
Worrall
McKenna
Biancone
Mbe Soh
Panzo

We wouldn’t need all of them so you have to look to try and get some money or squad space accordingly.

I am not saying sell McKenna or sell him now because as you say we are back to square one with injuries. But we can’t just horde players because it will add pressure to FFP

Assuming SC is planning on starting 3 CBs for portions of this season, we'll need 6 to cover the inevitable injuries.

At the moment, we have 4 likely to make the 25-man squad: Worrall, Biancone, Boly and McKenna.

Niakhate will be out for a while and, although I hope I'm wrong, Felipe could be chronic.

Until Niakhate and Felipe are fit, we can't afford to lose McKenna, ruling this transfer window out. There are gaps in our squad as it stands and we can't be creating more.

I wouldn’t be selling him, Felipe is incredible but is currently unfit and he’s getting on a bit.

Niakhate again is a great player but he never seems to be fit.

That leaves Joe, McKenna and Boly as I can’t see Biancone being truly match fit for a while.

Mbe Soh and Panzo will never play for us at this level so mentioning them is pointless.

If we were to sell any of the CB’s I’d argue we’d need to bring in 2 with us favouring a 3 CB formation.
