Summer 2020 Bargains

Any players taking your fancy that could be got for nowt in summer? Looks like there's a few decent options to improve the squad.

Lyle Taylor - Charlton - Out of contract in summer. Won't come with huge wage demands but is a good striker at this level and would offer real competition for Grabban.
Younousse Sankhare - Unattached - Released by Bordeaux summer 19, didn't manage to find a club. Tall, physical central midfielder, potential Sow MK2 for free and low wages.
Nathaniel Clyne - Liverpool - Out of contract in summer. Would come with large wage demands but if Cash is sold then a solid right back becomes a must.
Henrik Dalsgaard - Brentford - Out of contract in summer. A cheaper alternative to the Clyne suggestion.
Timoty Fosu-Mensah - Man Utd - Out of contract in summer. Had some loans but not broken through, may want guaranteed game time. Could be worth a look if Worrall is sold.
John Lundstram - Sheff Utd - Out of contract in summer. Made a name for himself this year amongst fantasy football managers, but would be an upgrade on Yates.
Lee Tomlin - Cardiff - Out of contract in summer. Seems to have got himself into shape and would potentially be a better option than Carvalho if he was moved on.
George Friend - Middlesborough - Out of contract in summer. Getting on a bit but still a decent back-up-at-worst option at left back. Good character for dressing room too.

Lyle Taylor would be a good shout. Been impressed with his play, what I’ve seen of him.

The Lyle Taylor "Alf doesn't know anything" wanted last Jan?........

:duck: ;)

Some good shouts there Maxi. Prob be on our radar in 2-3 windows when other clubs with more resources are targeting them too.

Sabri Lamouchi - Head Coach - out of contract. Someone is going to be very happy to bring him in.

Viv Anderson
Taylor and Tomlin are fair shouts. Lamouchi might do a job too. :p

Makes you wonder why he’s still unattached? Plus we could sign him right now if we were interested

I’m guessing with the signings of Bong and Nuno that we won’t be in for a full-back or striker this summer, especially with Darikwa coming back too. So I think we’ll be after a couple of midfielders and a winger or two.

Lyle Taylor would be a cracking signing on a free, I’d also sign Colback on a free as soon as possible for the Watson and Sow roles or to play with both in really tough games.

Then we could still be competitive with two or three effective loans.

Ovie Ejaria, Curtis Jones, Conor Gallagher etc for midfield and someone like Patrick Roberts or Reiss Nelson for the wing.

If we shifted some deadwood, there’s a chance we break even or make a small profit in transfers without weakening the team.

Although I suspect we’ll sell Cash and buy/loan loads of players instead.

If WBA go up, I’d like us to try and buy Jonathan Leko.

Centre-back has been a very difficult position for us over the years.

Walker/Dawson
Morgan/Wilson
Hobbs/Lascelles
Figgy/Worrall

have been our best and of those we've only signed Wilson, Hobbs and Figgs. The rest are academy.

If Worrall does go then we will have to be very smart in who we add here.

If we're still in this division next year, think there could be a few decent relatively cheap signings from the teams who may get relegated, depending upon who ends up going down:

Barnsley:
Jacob Brown (Winger / Forward)
Alex Mowatt (Midfield)

Charlton:
Tom Lockyer (Defender)
Lyle Taylor (Forward)

Huddersfield:
Christopher Schindler (Defender)
Jonathan Hogg (Midfielder)

Hull:
Jordy De Wijs (Defender)
Jackson Irvine (Midfielder)

Middlesbrough:
Adam Clayton (Midfield)
Marcus Tavernier (Winger)

Stoke:
Joe Allen (Midfield)
Ryan Woods (Midfield)
Sam Clucas (Winger)

Wigan:
Sam Morsy (Midfielder)
Gavin Massey (Winger)

Agree. This will be our best market if we buy in England. Champ experienced and hopefully good value and a youthful energy to them.

Others to add.

Barnsley : Clarke Oduor (LB) , Luke Thomas (ATT/WF), Conor Chaplin (2ND STR), Cauley Woodrow (2ND STR/STR)

Hull : Reece Burke (CB)

Huddersfield : Lewis O'Brien (CM), Karlan Grant (WF/CF), Steve Mounie (CF)

Wigan : Joe Williams (CM), Kieffer Moore (CF)

Charlton have Josh Cullen (CM) on loan from West Ham who has a bit about him at this level.

Assuming we are still in this league, I'd say we have no chance of signing Taylor, Clyne or Lundstram. A parachute payment club will snap up Taylor on a lucrative contract and Clyne's wage demands are well beyond what we can afford. I don't see Lundstram dropping to the Championship either.

The main area that needs strengthening in midfield, as has been the case for many years now. We need a more reliable player than Sow (who is an absolute biscuit), it's beyond frustrating how reliant we are on him and how shit we are when he isn't playing. We also need more creativity and goals in midfield too, I think Tomlin would be great if we can afford him.

Obviously if Cash is sold a replacement right back is needed. Jenkinson is a biscuit and Darikwa is bomb squad material.

Maybe another centre half if Dawson retires, 2 if Worrall is sold.

And of course, a decent winger (2 wingers if we don't keep Ameobi).

I'm not overly bothered about us signing another striker, Grabban is as good as we are going to get and Da Costa and Walker are fine as back up. We aren't going to get anyone stellar who is going to want to sit on the bench.

Plenty of work to do...

.

That'll see another "we couldn't get him" excuse from the forum White Knights, who'll remain totally oblivious to the fact that when he was very first suggested last Jan, he was very obtainable, just like Grosicki was in the Summer.

By last January are you referring to 2019 or 2020? I don't remember Lyle Taylor being linked with us in January 2019 personally, but of course he would have been obtainable to us then (and obviously would have fared better than Bonatini, not like that's difficult).

I don't think we had any chance of signing him in January 2020, Charlton would have wanted to keep him to help keep them up and if he was available a parachute payment club would have paid him more than we could have afforded.

I agree with you on Grosicki. We had no chance of signing him in January once West Brom got involved, but I feel we should have pushed more for him in the summer. Bringing in Adomah as our first choice winger was a huge mistake.

More chance of signing Liz Taylor.

Charlton wanted 4m for Taylor in January, when he’s out of contract this summer. What loon would pay that?

Brentford were seemingly his most likely destination. I don’t see why we can’t compete with them. He’s 29, played lower league most of his career. This is his best and last chance to make big money and we pay bigger wages than Brentford.

Brentford won't be able to afford him in the summer either. As a free agent, plenty of the parachute payment clubs will be interested in him. He will go to one of those clubs, who can offer him £40k or more per week without breaking a sweat. Neither Forest or Brentford can compete with that.

I’ve not seen many shit players who belong to Benfica or Mendes mentioned so I’d guess we won’t sign any of the names mentioned

I can’t see anyone paying him 40k a week to be honest. That’s the sort of money Charlie Austin is on.

It’s moot anyway because I don’t think we’ll be in for him unless Nuno gets moved on immediately or plays on the wing.

Judging by recent news, Mendes might be in the clink by then, so not to worry!

I’ll add a realistic non parachute payment needing signing.

Alex Mowatt from Barnsley when they go down

Yeah i'd definitely say go for Mowatt.

I'd love to see us shed a large number, and have a smaller squad, with greater quality, supplemented by the likes of Johnson, Mighten, Richardson and maybe even Dekel-Daks.
