Germany will be without Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and midfielder Leon Goretzka for tonight‘s match against Hungary, as they both tested positive for Covid.

The expectation is also that Hansi Flick may give highly-rated Bayern youngster Jamaal Musiala a start - he has had a superb start to the season in München, and is looking every bit like the next big thing for German football.

And he could have chosen England, as he has dual nationality. I guess he wants to win things :).

If it were not for the demise of the old Forum software - that took chunks of the „Football Banter“ sub-forum with it - one would be able to browse the original „European Football Thread“, where I was absolutely jumping up and down about young Musiala, having seen him play for Bayern‘s U-19 side and learning he was eligible for England, and proclaiming he was going to be an absolute star.

As you say, he opted for Germany instead, but having watched a lot of him, I can confidently say he is going to be an absolute star.

Btw, Japan beat the States 6-0 earlier today. I rest my case.
I put this entirely down to the presence of VfB Stuttgart top-men Wataru Endo and Hiroki Ito in the team of the Samurai Blue.

A superb flicked-on chance from a corner sees Hungary take a 0-1 lead against Germany in Leipzig!

Well-worked set pieces could be the key for the Hungarians today. It was a lovely goal, inswinging corner, a flick on and boom, back of the net!

Without Neuer in goal (their Captian and stalwart) and Goretzka in midfield, they look very light.

Kimmich is running around like he always does, Thomas Müller is doing, well, the Thomas Müller role, but Gnabry and Sane haven‘t got into it as yet, Werner has been anonymous, and the Germans have looked toothless as an attacking force.

Hansi Flick did not look happy on the bench. Expect the hairdryer to be gotten out during the break, and changes from the Germans in the second half.

In possibly the only moment of quality in the whole game so far Raspadori brings down a ball with snow on it and surrounded by englands finest manages to ping it past whoever’s in goal.

Might see some urgency now.

Be aware that our domestic fixture calendar has been abandoned in favour of this crap.

Southgate will be gone after the World Cup, IMO. He's going to be brutally exposed as the lamentable second-rate manager he is.
Was absolutely shocking for Middlesbrough. 4 years out of a job, he becomes England U21 manager and gets fast tracked for the main job. Typical FA.

He's extremely lucky he's had such a talented generation of England player to get him out of trouble and keep him in a job.

6 years in charge. He brought the feel good factor at the start (or was it just all the youthful talent he had?) but the honeymoon is well and truly over. When it comes to the crunch, he still struggles against tactics like these against the better teams and often loses those crucial games.

I'm not sure how many more times Mancini has to outwit Southgate for the FA to realise.

He's able to smash the lesser nations but against well organised teams, he struggles to break them down. Denmark, Croatia, Belgium and Italy always give him problems.

Not sure how you can go from beating Hungary 4-0 away to a year later losing 4-0 at home to them.
