Could it be that the players aren’t quite as good as the uk media keep saying they are?

That was awful, it was a poor Italian side too.

We will be dumped out of the World Cup in the group stages and the next yes man will replace Southgate as England manager.

Poor? Italy brought on Milan’s 4th choice dm and someone who played for Southampton a couple of times. #strengthindepth.

First Team Squad
England suffering the same problems as Forest imo, a system which isnt suiting the players to accomodate centre halfs who shouldnt be playing eg Maguire. Time for both to change to a back 4 and get Saka in his best position

We could do with it.

Bower and LaSaux are the most pedestrian of commentary team.

They melt into each like a pair of slugs in a salt pile.

Have to say, as a neutral, that I don't think Southgate is quite as bad as you all make out BUT he certainly is not a top manager. Why can't England produce top managers? This seems to me an incredible situation. Howe has looked a bit lost lately. The Chelsea fella seems the only legit name as a good manager. And let's not forget Big Sam et al who seem to think they are good (but are not). Again, this seems incredible to me, from the outside.

I only saw the second half but that was shit, barely created a chance against a piss poor Italy who didn't even qualify for a WC that's impossible not to qualify for

Southgate is a fraud, these days England more or less get a bye into the knock stages of competitions yet he spoils it with his mind numbing negative approach

The nations league is a pile of shit that needs to go in the same bin as VAR, the CL, Xg, 5 subs & the Europa conference thing

Sarina Wiegman in.
Maybe Coops should have a bit more time yet, Bryan........:unsure:.....Oh I see what you mean!

It'd be interesting (either as an International or club manager) to see if she kept a similar 'play the same line-up every time, make similar subs every time' policy and how that panned out if she did take one of the two best jobs in the country (Forest or England) at any point! There's probably something to be said for that old-fashioned approach (with the modern aspect being that subs do get used as a tactic still).

Having only watched Youtube highlights, as a Forest scout I'd be saying maybe pass up any chance to sign that Harry Kane, while bemoaning that we bought MGW instead of the Italian goalscorer (ok, I checked a Youtube compilation for him afterwards too), but planning to suggest we buy him too in Jaunary anyway! But that would be a bit knee jerk obviously, so maybe not the best analysis!

I didn’t watch England live because here it was Germany-Hungary on free-to-air TV, but I watched the „highlights“ this morning and Jesus, it’s like watching Forest under Hughton.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 won’t make the last 16 in Qatar at this rate.

Meanwhile the Germans are ticking along quietly: Coach Hansi Flick spent most of the match disinterestedly wandering about in the technical area with his hands in his pockets in the manner of a man waiting for a train. You almost sense he can’t be arsed with this competition and just wants the proper matches to start.

I do wonder though, if Germany not having a proper centre forward could be their undoing? They’ve not had a top class number nine since Mario Gomez, and currently seem to rotate been Kai Havertz and Timo Werner (who started Last Night and missed his customary chance from eight metres out).

The stream I watched had Paul Robinson on commentary and he summed it up perfectly when he said England had two problems:

'they can't keep a clean sheet and, they concede too many goals'

It might help if we scored a couple too.

There were some disturbing similarities to the old days under Hughton (and if I'm honest to some of our current play) with England - we were only set up with one thing in mind and that was a swift counter attacking break down the wings and try and cross it in. Nothing of any note came through the "midfield" which was largely absent and the Italians simply closed down any English possession with the ruthless efficiency and negativity for which they are famed. Conversely when they had the ball they showed more confidence and skill and were afforded more time by England players who were slow and not playing any noticeable system....

The other things that was glaringly obvious was how we continued to try and "play out from the back". It's nonsense when the players are not good enough to retain or pass the ball and/or are instantly harried.... time and again when the keeper passed or threw to one of our players they were quickly closed down, we lost the ball and the Italians took control.... pathetic and I agree we won't make it out of the group in the WC.

We'll make it out of the group because the other teams in it are shit
Yes, and we'll be on the shit side of the draw which is not unknown in the past.
I think that's why the millionaires aren't really that arsed about the format. And it's not just England's rich-boys either. I think there's a deep malaise across Europe about the amount of playing time this competition requires

If we come second in our group then the second round match is on my wedding day so I’d originally been hoping we would finish top. I may switch to wishing for third or fourth now.
