What's the point in spending £millions on a 20 goal a season striker in order to turn him into a 5 goal a season striker?

Why not just spend £350k on a 4 goal a season striker and see if we can coax an extra goal or two out of them?

'cos (unless you are taking the piss of course) a 6 goal a season striker ain't going to be part of a top 6 side....

But that's crazy logic for a guy whose 33 and now, quite clearly well on his downward trajectory...what are we keeping him for?

This is not clear though. If Grabban was 28 and had endured the season he's having, the consensus would likely be that he is a proven Championship goalscorer who has had an injury-hit season that's best forgotten...get him fully fit and he'll score goals next season.

Because he's 33, the assumption is his poor season and injuries issues are due to age. It may, or may not be, time will tell. Hughton has said he wants him at Forest next season. Suggests he doesn't think he's in irrevocable decline.

If it's a gamble either way - move on a proven goalscorer/ keep a forward whose best days might be gone - it's surely better on keeping the goalscorer every time given how few proven goalscorers Forest have had in the last two decades.

I think the bigger gamble is keeping Taylor hoping he can be 20+ Championship striker when nothing in his career up to now suggests that's what he is.

Hughton is hardly going to say ‘no I don’t want him here next season’ is he? Also saying he wants him here sends a message to any potential suitors that they will need to pay our asking price if they want him.

He doesn't have to say anything. Has he said that about anyone else?

Let’s be objective for a moment, how many strikers approaching 34 are still in action at their peak league level (ie not having dropped to L1 or 2) and scoring at something approaching their peak career average?.

I hope I’m wrong of course because it would be great if we could save a bit of money and rely on a 34 year old to stay fit and get a sack full....

So, Lyle Taylor is an international for Montserrat. I always find it difficult to associate Montserrat with a country (or overseas territory, or whatever you call them) in the Carribean. Montserrat in Spain (and its weird statue of Madonna), OK, Monserrat as a name (the soprano Montserrat Caballé), but Montserrat in West Indies is too much of a Trivial Pursuit toponym for me.

Montserrat is of course, most famous for the volcanic eruption that buried a large part of it.

Although, much like when Dexter Blackstock represented Antigua and Barbuda, and Wes Morgan represented Jamaica, I cannot help but feel a little bit of pride when a Forest man is capped internationally by his country.

Its a tiny Island, population a few thousand, black sand beaches and ravaged by its volcano and hurricanes over the past couple of decades. It was (is?) a British dependancy.
It also had a famous recording studio in the interior, run by George Martin and because it was so remote loads of bands (The Police, Eric Clapton etc etc) recorded there and there are many famous albums from the island.

I spend several months there on an elective and I'm always sad when I hear of it because it's had so many natural tragedies and the people are so lovely and friendly.

Clapton recorded several of his albums there.

He also founded the Crossroads Centre, a facility for drug and alcohol rehabilitation, on Antigua.

Must be the junction of tectonic plates around that area. 30,000 people were killed when a volcano erupted on Martinique at the beginning of 20th century.

Something like that! I confess I learned about the eruption during my Open University Earth Sciences studies, but have now forgotten pretty much everything I learned. All down to living for today, forgetting pretty much everything else.

The sequel to Game of Thrones was due to start filming in Morocco just before Lockdown came in but it then got shelved due to Covid. One of my clients was a Set Designer on it but she lost all the work. Not sure if filming has recommenced.

He didn't return for Charlton after the restart last year reasoning that at that stage in his career with an opportunity to sign his biggest contract, he couldn't. He isn't likely then to give that contract up easily.

His market value has dropped since then, it's unlikely another club will be willing to offer him as good a deal this summer. Loaning him out looks the most realistic option.

Loaning him out and have that club pay all his wages is a good way to go if we are not using him. We should play with 2 strikers at home and 1 away since our attacking players seemed to have target practice at row z. The opposing keeper can pull up a lounge bed and take a snooze since they were never tested.

Seems odd unless we've someone better lined up. Taylor wasn't great by any means, but not sure where we'll get a better 3rd choice backup striker from.

I take it as an encouraging sign that Hughton's confident of having several new strikers at the club this pre-season.
