Hillsborough could forest fans have done more?

I was there quite close to the side of the Kop where the ambulances were and the stretchers being brought to. I can state that I saw no spitting or disrespectful behavior in that area.

Id however remember on the way to Hillsborough being spat at by Pissed Liverpool fans passing on buses and at one point having a bottle of urine thrown at us.

I think it says in the report they were Chelsea fans in disguise.

This thread makes me sad, as it brings back memories that I tried to forget.

It also makes me sadder how people want to reapportion blame, and profit out of such a horrific event.

There are plenty of Forest fans that witnessed what happened on that dreadful day. Why don't you get in touch with those conducting the enquiry? By coming on here and then doing nothing means the good name of Nottingham Forest is being dragged through the mud.

Oh those loveable scallies!

From my recollection, none of the injured fans were laid close enough to the Forest fans for that to have happened.

And it's took this copper how long to relate this for the first time?

I suppose it was inevitable that we would get our turn for it to be our fault.

I was there, and admittedly one of the young idiots skimming coins at the Liverpool fans in the adjacent seats. But once we realised what was going on and it wasn't them pitch invading we stood silent. By the time bodies came our way everyone at the front of the kop were frozen in shock. I certainly didn't see anyone spitting on the dead, ffs.
But I did see Forest fans with first aid experience helping on the pitch, like some of my dad's mates from the pit that were trained first aiders. That gets forgotten though.

Was young and only been to all seater matches. Didn't know the extent to which fans were penned in back in them days. With the juve stadium disaster and this disaster there is only one common denominator.

A dangerous stadium.

There have been other disasters caused by dangerous stadiums: Ibrox (1902, 26 died), Burnden Park (1946, 33 died), Ibrox (1971, 66 died), Valley Parade (1985, 56 died).

I am so angry with this, I have not read any other posts, but this is complete and utter garbage. I was standing to the right hand of the goal ( Big Stand Side ) fairly low down, along with many other Forest fans I was singing and chanting at the Scouse fans as they came on the pitch.

You must remember it was a different era, football violence and pitch invasions were if not the norm, not unknown. It was Livepool, the scousers were amongst the biggest pack of animals you could come across in any football ground. So it was taken by myself and thousands of others as normal service, the Scousers were doing one again.

When the first body was bought down towards our end, covered on an advertising hoarding, the volume lowered as turning down the control on an amplifier, the seriousness of what we witnessing began to take effect. The behaviour of the Forest fans was without a doubt faultless as far as I witnessed and heard about later.

As for spitting on the dead, that's unbelievable, the casualties were indeed collected in front of us, but close enough to spit on, that is so wrong. That's a disgraceful and a dreadful thing to say. it simply did not and could not happen.

how could we help ? we were prevented from going on to the pitch ? as for spitting on their fans. well if it did happen then it wasn't anywhere near me. all i saw was one poor (fat) liverpool fan laid out a few feet from me with his pants around his ankles and a t/shirt thrown over his face. the last thing we wanted to do was spit on the poor lad.

One of the sights that still brings out goose bumps on my arm, I remember thinking there is no dignity what so ever in his death.

I am chilled out in Cornwall with my family and spitting with rage at this.

Serious is there anyway to contact the inquiry and refute this dreadful slur, anyone know any contacts, many thanks.

When you say pants round his ankles, im assuming with his fella hanging out? Why the did they not just pull his pants up? Give the chap some dignity? I was there but we left as soon as my old man heard what was happening stood next to a copper over the radio, remember it being a ghost town outside.

It's one isolated statement Nigel. I can understand your upset, particularly with you being there, but without corroboration it means nothing.

If Forest fans had acted in a manner not fitting it would have been outed many years ago.

Don't let nonsense like this ruin your break.

from memory i dont think he was 'exposed' ...some of the liverpool lads had tried to revive him (thumping on his chest) when they realised it was all in vain they grabbed hold of their advertising hoarding and ran back to their end to try to rescue some of the others. the fat lads dignity was not their priority and sadly who could blame them given the circumstances. as for the spitting it could have happened but i personally didn't witness it. to rake it up now is in very poor taste and serves no postive purpose. shame on the press for printing unsubstantiated rubbish. RIP those that lost their lives.

Settled down now, thanks Roger, you are correct.

I can also remember the silent movement of fans in our area, as those with youngsters at the front gathered them up and took them away from the dreadful sights unfolding in front of them, hardly a word was said, yet this movement front to back years later seemed almost military in fashion. Every one knew why they were being taken back and the Forest crowd just continued to part gently providing a clear passage away for them to the rear of the stand.

My uncle and granddad were at the game and are both doctors. Neither had any opportunity to get onto the pitch to offer medical assistance. There really was nothing that Forest fans could do.
This.

After just reading that shite I can't bring myself to write anything remotely constructive or worthwhile. Maybe when I've calmed down a little, although the passing years have done nothing to diminish the loathing towards the selfish scum that did this to there own.

in fairness it was the press that quoted this officers statement not the liverpool football club or fans.....

I like the way that Liverpool supporters and those associated with them, including the Liverpool press have spent over two decades telling everyone how the authorities have lied about pretty much everything to do with Hillsborough and then report and treat this statement by a member of the same group they have vilified as gospel.

I'll leave it there I think. It's a bit difficult to go and help when to do so you have to get past a bloody great fence designed with the sole intent of stopping you. At one end of the ground there were innocent people being killed as a result of these fences and at the other end a group of innocent people powerless to help because of these fences.

But Forest fans didn't try to help? Ok.

This is a very serious allegation and one that could have real reprocuaions in years to come when we eventually come to play them.

The echo has a agenda in my honest opinion its well publicised what Brian's opinions where and they didn't go down well in Liverpool and he is very much disliked in Liverpool being married into a Liverpool family you would be zuprised at the hatred the gobshites still have for us.

This article will now add fuel to that fire I will once again have to defend my club to in laws next time I'm up there and re-educate them as to what actually happened that day.

Its not just the rest of the world that have not heard forest fans witness statements the entire city of Liverpool has been fed the victim line the justice campaign and echo has been.pushing for the last few years, and I genuily at times get the feeling they feel we share a element of blame in some way.

This latest headline will stick in fans minds and we will now once again be met with a rather hostile welcome next time we cross paths.

^ They will grasp at anything that takes attention away from their own feral element. If they had any conscience or sense of shame they'd have rooted that element out years ago and being given the hearing they wanted as a result. Instead they'd sooner remain in total denial and blame it entirely on everyone else.
