First Team Squad
im inclined to let Lee Carsley take over, I do think his more attacking, fluid formation and tactics would be good. the whole spain set up with fuente moving up with the players from U13 does seem very logical, the team will know the player very well once they get to senior level.

I'd be inclined to say the FA needs to formulate a style a play and then appoint a head coach that works with players from youth to senior level. It about time the FA formed a coherent strategy rather then knee perking from one manager to the next.
I watched a lot the Euro U-21 win that Carsley oversaw and England played well, but I'd say they won with brute force more than anything.

The amount of top Premier League-level talent in that squad was silly - Gibbs-White, Elliott, Branthwaite, Colwill, Palmer, Smith-Rowe, Jones, Madueke, Ramsey, Gordon, Garner, Skipp. I think I'm forgetting others too. It was a very balanced side.

So, I'm not totally convinved that Carsley has shown that he has the chops for such a massive job. A lot of teams will be looking to copy the Spanish approach now but it's obviously not a sure thing.

I 100% agree that a plan and defined style of play is needed though.

I wanted Carsley but my only trepidation was looking at the stats of that under 21 final. We seem to give up a lot of the ball to Spain and had little shots. However he is generally more attacking than southgate and he got us over the line. The problem with Southgate was he didnt even do defensive football well really. I think are getting there all thats needed now is better midfielders now.

St Georges park has been ace and now the FA need to focus on getting talent that recieves the ball well under pressure and turns out of trouble. What was noticeable to me was how poor techinally Rice was which was a surprise to me. He stuck out like a sore thumb.

However I love how teh FA is trying to develop coaches as well its very good. Will Antwi an ex EFL pro won a trophy with the under 19s as well I think. So moving everyone up the age groups and getting them penty of experience of winning is only a good ting for the FA. Good stratagy by them in fairness. Also the media needs to give more respect to managers coming out of this system for the international job. Spain has shown that it works. International football is different from club football and it sometimes needs a different skill set.

Thanks for nearly getting us there. 👏

He's made the right decision. Grateful for the two finals after two decades of abject failures, but it was time.

The FA needs to throw the sink at getting in a proven winner to get the best out of this squad.

I know people on here would hate it, but Klopp has to be the top target if we're looking to actually win things.

Well, not any more.

Also, I’ll chuck another name into the hat for you; a coach who has coached at the top level of the game, knows the English league, plays a high-energy pressing style, can get results, is currently at a loose end and - importantly - isn’t Jürgen Klopp.

Thomas Tuchel.

I like Lee Carsley but Jurgen Klopp would be my pick. I think he suits the nation and the players down to the ground. He could implement his heavy metal football with the type of players we have. He would also get the most out of Arnold and Shaw.

He wont want it till next summer though. So I would give Lee Carsley the nations league games and let Klopp have the year off he wants. If we pitch it like that to him he may feel appreciated and he likes England.

Nothing but utter respect for him.

He’s transformed the England set up and given us by far the best results in 58 years.

Two finals and a semi in four attempts it outstanding compared to what the majority of us have seen in our entire lifetimes.

I think it was probably best for all to move on, it felt he’d reached the end of the road. But he goes on his own terms and should be treated with nothing but absolute respect for what he’s done.

We need to be logical about it though, if Sven had the draws that Southgate had I have no doubt he would have got that far. Southgate brought us back from our very very low bar in Hodgson.

Ultimatley he has 7 wins in 29 against the top 10 which says it all really. He was a flat track bully who relied on easier draws. That being said its undoubted he brought the nation together and the players. The culture of Team England is undeniable and he still avoided the shocker result that the likes of Hodgson had.

I don't mind Carsley having a go as caretaker for a while because for me there are no standout candidates, he has done very well at U21 level playing good football. Mentioned it before but I would love Bielsa however the FA would never go for somebody as confrontational as him.

And if my auntie had bollocks etc….

The fact of the matter is that Southgate has achieved more than anyone in nearly 60 years. Consistently. It wasn’t one tournament. It was multiple.

And he did that from one of our lowest ebbs. The players have nothing but praise for him. So do those who have worked with him.

As I said, it was the right time for him to move on but I find this constant desire to trash his record (which is so unbelievably better than anyone before him) is pathetic.

He’s done a fantastic job.

Steve Cooper would have been an excellent choice, with his familiarity with the "next generation" of England Seniors - but he's taken a crap-club job.

I really want Klopp, his style of football suits more of our better players. Ultimatley one of Foden or Bellingham will have to be on the bench for balance sake but if Klopp did come you could have a side like this.

Kane could do the firminho role and drop into the 10 position that he loves to do. Plamer and Saka become inside forwards and run on. Than Arnold and Shaw become the wingers.
