Caoimhin Kelleher [BUPA]

Don't get this at all, I understand that Liverpool will want big money because effectively they will have to replace him at short notice even though he's a back up.

I feel like he's a decent enough player and could be worth more in the future if he gets regular game time but again I question whether he's better than what we have.

He reminds me an awful lot of Turner and clearly that's not a good thing.

At this point, the only keepers we spend any significant money on should be either substantially better than what we already have (which doesn't appear to be available at a sane price in the current market), or a long term bet that's immediately loaned out to get first team experience.

Kelleher doesn't fall into the first category, and probably not the second either, so can't see why we'd be after him right now. He definitely made sense in January, when we were stuck with the horrors of Turner and Vlach, but we've signed two decent keepers since then.

The only thing I can think of is if Sels has indicated to the club that he wants to move on? But that seems a stretch as surely we'd have heard something.

You would imagine he will want a move it’s clear Liverpool don’t see him as ever being their number 1. They just signed their next number 1 and loaned him out.

I don’t think there is enough tape of this guy to know if he is a top class keeper. I just find it odd if we wanted a new keeper we did not go for Ramsdale.

I don’t think they will sell which might not be the worst thing.

Happy with what we have would rather spend the money if it’s 25m on putting it towards a striker.

Make Wolves an offer for Cunha of 50m - they might just not be able to say no. It would get us a very good striker and also weaken a rival.

If we dropped £25m on Liverpool's sub keeper I'll be annoyed. I don't even think GK is that much of an issue for us now but obviously the club are absolutely desperate to bring someone in.

Are they a comparable standard? He’s had a dozen appearances in 5 years! Stinks of another turner to me.
Who knows ? He was excellent last season standing in as their #1. I would say he’s got a better rounded game for a modern keeper, good with the ball at feet being the main feature of that these days.

I mean, just because Liverpool don’t want him longer term doesn’t automatically say he’s not good enough for us. Liverpool are aspiring to have the #1 keeper in the world playing for them. We’re not quite there yet…

So yeah, maybe he is another Turner. Don’t know.

It would seem that Nuno wants to upgrade our keeper to the point it’s become an obsession. There must be a reason for that.

Was he actually, or was that just the media bullshit that surrounds any youngster that breaks into one of the elite teams? They play a handful of games, generally where their club dominates against weaker opposition, and immediately get written up as the next big thing.

For f***'s sake, Curtis Jones was being touted for the Euros squad last season after a handful of adequate performances

Yeah could be that. Will find out today if we’ve bought into the hype or think he’s more than decent I guess.

How much is the fee supposed to be on this one or don't we know? I know they wanted silly money last year.

I don't know much about him - I know he's well thought of /(hyped?) but I can only remember errors, given I only really only celebrate Liverpool's downfalls. He had an extended stint and did well after a shaky start iirc?

He's an excellent keeper and seems like a really nice, down to earth guy as well.

He knew he would never be ahead of Alisson but he's been happy to be his understudy while he learns his trade.

But he's at an age now where he needs to be a starter as he's good enough for it.

@Ashley I think he even started off as a striker IIRC so two birds with one stone if you get him 😂

Got to agree with this.
Never seen him live but he came from nowhere last season to deputise for the regular Liverpool goalie and always looked composed when on TV.
Plus his name's the Irish for Kevin and there aren't many of them left.
All that said, having read Miguel's back story yesterday, I'm letting my heart rule my head and hoping the big Brazilian becomes Number One for years to come.

He wouldn't be swapping the Liverpool bench for ours so any transfer would probably come with playing assurances.

Miguel dropping down to third choice and not even making first team squads would piss me right off.

He was considered a really high potential keeper not so long ago - I remember hearing Andy Lonergan on a podcast once and he stated he was by far the best young keeper he's ever seen - but he's spent so much of his career on the bench, you do wonder whether that will have halted his progress.

All that said, I really would rather we spent the money elsewhere. We've already got Sels who is a perfectly good goalkeeper - and Miguel looks like he could be another gem. Plus Turner is still around.

Seems very risky to spend so big on a keeper we don't really need.

If we remove our allegiances to players based on performances so far and remove any worries about accounting responsibilities, Kelleher would be a significant upgrade on our goalkeeping options. Kelleher + Miguel are two young, hungry goalkeepers who have really high ceilings and the potential to increase in value significantly. Sels is at the other end of his career and whilst he’s a serviceable option, he’s clearly going down in value rather than up.

If we could get Kelleher in, we are a better team because of it. As it should be with new players.
