Caoimhin Kelleher [BUPA]

I think people are missing the point somewhat

He's a good keeper, but we already have a good keeper, so we don't need to sign another good keeper
My issue with Kelleher is I don't actually know whether he's a good keeper or not. He looks decent when he plays for Liverpool but it's a completely different skillset playing for a team like that.

I have the same opinion that I did in 2023 when he was first linked, the sample size just isn't enough to know whether he's good or not. If we want a keeper with enormous potentially but hasn't really played that much, we've got one for £3m in Carlos Miguel - that sort of deal is perfect, certainly not the money Liverpool want.

I hope our league position come January is still strong so we can stay patient and see if Miguel will evolve into what we want him too.

You can if you want use his actual name given he's an ex Forest player..
I chose not to. But the point still stands in the same way especially because everyone knows who Keylor Navas is anyway.

I guess his time here is indicative more of his Costa Rica experience than his Real Madrid/PSG experience in that we were no doubt one of the worst teams and worst defences in the PL that season, and he was thrust into a system which emphasised defending almost to extremes and couldn't keep everything out, although those performances vs City and Leeds on his debut were some of the best performances I've seen from a keeper.

You could look at someone like Matt Turner and think when he was backup at Arsenal he would probably have been fine for a few matches, as their defence is better, and they have better skills to play it out from defence so there is less reliance on his kicking weakness.

Or then you can think how a bad keeper in a good side in a weak league like Vlachodimos at Benfica can still win titles.

Someone like Pickford when he was at Sunderland literally kept the score down every week and showed how good he was. That got him a big money move to Everton.

Put Onana in at Ipswich and chances are there won't be much difference from Muric.
We won’t be.
Not in January; not next summer.
Unless Brice returns.
I'm not sure Brice coming back would be worth it either though. For sentiment reasons yes, and yes he's a good keeper. But I think he's similar to Sels in terms of his capability and wouldn't be worth the cost to improve the team.

Whatever his merits as a keeper it's a risk we don't need to take IMO as I think Sels as first choice with Miguel deputising for cup games etc is a more than good enough setup

For me the number one priority in January is a striker

I don't even know what the priority is.

I suppose the answer may be more obvious on Jan 1st but as things stand I really can't see a priority position at the moment.

We all want a striker but I really don't think we need one.

Top notch players are seldom transferred in January.
And we are at a stage now where we only want a couple of top-notch players to improve the side further.
More of what we have will only bloat the squad.

I saw the BBC do a fluff piece on him being the next best thing. I don't doubt he's good but if he's that amazing his club wouldn't have gone out and signed a new number 1 for next season. Liverpool need to get off their high horse and reduce the price if they want rid (not necessarily for us).

I’ve seen quite abit of him with my missus being a Liverpool fan and he is very good. You can see a lot of similarities to how Alisson plays e.g. technique in one on ones, coolness at crosses. One thing I would say he lacks is distribution in comparison to Alisson. But not many keepers are at that level. I’ve rarely seen him make a mistake at club level. I think Liverpool selling him is more about the FFP side, he’s home grown so it would be pure profit and their owners are all about the numbers.

That's not it at all, they've gone and signed a new number 2(whose happy to wait a few years) as Kelleher has stated he now wants first team football which he won't get while Alisson is at Liverpool, he wanted to leave last year but they convinced him to stay.

He's an excellent keeper, definitely deserves to be number 1 somewhere but fair play to him for staying as long as he has to learn from one of the best.

@coops89 I find the opposite, that his distribution is really good and I've always put it down to him originally starting to be a striker so built up that part of his game before converting to a keeper.

Samba is worth it if only for his antics alone.

Someone here once posted something along the lines of his time wasting by pretending to brush away an imaginary blade of grass from the ball to slowdown a goal kick.

Think he would be carded most games in the Prem. but I can’t help but smile when I think about him :)

I suppose I’ve compared a lot of his game to Alisson who I would say is one of the best at starting counters. I find their counter attacks can be slightly slower with him in goal but that’s probably down to Alisson’s insane accuracy. Regardless I’d snap Liverpool’s hand off for him if we are genuinely still wanting to replace Sels. Not advocating for Sels to go though, he’s been great this season.

if he's going to cost £35m I think we can spend that better elsewhere. Under £10m and a no-brainer but that is not going to happen.

I guess we'll see in the summer how happy he is to be number 2. There were a lot of rumours about Allison going last summer and again more recently. Not many teams spend 29m on a goalie to play for someone else for one year and then sit on the bench for the next two years. If Liverpool truly believed Kelleher was a future star it would make sense to sell Allison and offer this lad a new contract and save yourself 30 odd million.

He might be brilliant and be a number 1 elsewhere but I don't think Liverpool's ask is reasonable given the small sample size.
