Brennan Price Johnson

Only time will tell but I am concerned about how much people are building him up.

I think the key thing is we give him match time, if he isn't going to get it based on pre-season, then loan him out again.

I’m looking forward to seeing his old mans reaction if we deem it best for Brennan to be loaned out again.

Beckham can get f**ked as well how is he involved in all this

I agree with valspoodle comments regarding his performances over the two legs against mediocre opposition, he will have a shock next season because the opposition in the championship is far better. I hope he can step up and show us all he can perform in a higher league that his unless his old man as not interfered and got him a move to the Premiership

I tend to agree. I thought his performance was poor. I am not even sure I would bring him back next season. If he wasn't a Forest player I wouldn't be rushing to sign him so why would I be rushing to bring him back just because we can.

I saw nothing yesterday to suggest he can step up a level.

No premiership team is going to shell out the money we would want for him until he’s shown if he can do it at a higher level and the lack of chatter on him beyond the localised David J generated bullshit speaks volumes.
His current USP is very much a luxury player with long periods out of games and until he shows he can get beyond that he’s a long way from being a prem fit.

That may change of course but it’s not guaranteed.

How many of his minutes have you watched to come to the conclusion that he is a luxury player that spends long periods out of games? Genuine question.

Quite alot actually and my brother is a season ticket holder at Lincoln and watches them obsessively so we talk a lot about Brennan and he’s a good judge of players.

I should clarify because luxury player is probably not the kindest or fairest term. What I really mean is he’s a guy with sone real quality who can influence games but there are many times when he’s not doing that and is being (to an extent) carried. Go up another level and defenders will be bigger, faster, and better briefed and altogether harder.
Fir Brennan to be a success he needs goals and double figures for assists.
I’m really hoping he’s the answer by the way but I really wish his father and friends would leave him alone because I don’t think the pressure will help...

For a first full season in professional Football he's done extremely well.

I watch a lot of Lincoln games - as many Lincoln games as Forest games, really - and I have to disagree that he is ‘carried’ through games. I think he actually puts in a very reasonable shift of defensive work in off the ball and, whilst I’ve not been in the ground to properly appreciate what he’s doing off-camera, I think often he’ll try a pass or a run off the ball that doesn’t work because the team isn’t always on his wavelength. I can remember a couple of runs he made vs Sunderland at home that weren’t seen that would have put him through clear on goal.

It is a different game in the championship but he has the tools and the attitude to be an excellent player. That is the Forest academy way.

What you possibly need to ask yourself is, if Johnson was a Lincoln player, following the season he's had, would you be hoping/expecting that he would someone we're seriously looking at?

I certainly would.

If he's scoring and creating goals who cares about the rest?

My concern is that Forest won't get him the ball in dangerous situations often enough. If we do that he looks like the type of player who makes it count. He also looks lucky, which is very important.

https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-nottingham-forest-reject-multiple-johnson-bids/

Nottingham Forest have rejected multiple loan and permanent deal enquiries for Brennan Johnson, Football Insider can reveal.

The Wales international is in demand after a dazzling loan spell at Lincoln City this campaign.

A source has told Football Insider Chris Hughton has earmarked Johnson for a major role next season in the Nottingham Forest first team.

The 20-year-old featured in Hughton’s first two Championship matchday squads before being loaned out to Lincoln.

Johnson has two years left on his Nottingham Forest contract.

At Lincoln this season he has scored 13 goals and provided 13 assists in 47 games across all competitions.

The Imps secured their place in the League One play-off final with a 3-2 aggregate win over Sunderland.

The Forest man scored the second goal in their 2-0 win in the first leg at Sincil Bank.

Hughton will be keen to get his Forest side scoring more goals after their disappointing season.

I've only seen Brennan in highlights this season and the thing that stood out for me was that it was some excellent movement that largely contributed to many of his goals.

Would it therefore be outrageous of me to possibly suggest that a certain Joao Carvalho is someone with the natural ability to pick-out those runs?
In other words, the kind of moving target he's rarely been presented with during his time here so far.

Listen, I've not got a downer on Brennan and there's nothing I would like more than for us to produce another player of the Matty Cash calibre whose interesting mid table prem sides at a hefty cost.
I just think that the development of this sort of player is the most difficult (and dangerous) to predict. We can disagree about whether he's in and out of games, but IMO he is hit and miss. That being said theres no doubt he could be a top class attacking forward, if he knuckles down, does not believe the hype and bullshit (coming from his own camp) and if things go his way. But by the same count we've all seen lots of these "talents" not fulfil the potential they showed at 19 and so often this is because they become Billy big bollocks and forget that professional football is an exceptionally hard, cut throat business where no one owes you anything..

He needs to come back to Forest, keep his head down and work hard, the rest will look after itself and I personally will be absolutely delighted if he turns into the next Dele Ali or even the next Ian Woan..

It was often pointed out that both Lolley and Ameobi only ever seem to want the ball into feet, so Carva only had Grabban to aim for on the move. It limits a ball player's options when the recipients are so static. Both Johnson and Mighten are capable of running onto a ball.

I appreciate what you’re saying but there’s a lot of conjecture and assumption in that post based on what David Johnson says about his son on Twitter.

The academy has a national reputation for developing hard working, grounded and well rounded individuals. Brennan’s attitude on the pitch at Lincoln has given me no reason to believe he is any different.

He's a completely different type of player to Ian Woan.

Yes, it was said mire in the context of him developing into a player that nails down (and is effective in) a wide position in the first team over multiple seasons.

What would we give for another Woan now?. To think
He was signed for tuppence from Nowhere. We could do with a few of them

Alf-engelos Mindminackers

The Artiste formally known as "Wanksy"
Alf, I’d buy the thrust of your argument for Grant and Brennan but would simply point out that those goals were scored in L1, that grant was let go several years ago when it was clear he would be picking up crumbs in our midfield and that Brennan is coming back to us much improved.

The other 2 together have not managed to hit double figures each so by any striker metric cannot be considered to have had a great season...

A goalscorer is a goalscorer, and we sorely lack them. Hell Grant banged one past Spurs for us. I don't think that makes him a Prem player, but it shows he's not limited to scoring against lower league opposition.

These lads don't have to hit those numbers in this league to be worth their spot in the squad. THey just have to score more than the expensive toss which replaced them.

Grant>>>>>>>>>>>Bachirou, Gurerro, Artur
Johnson>>>>>>>>>Carvalho
Walker>>>>>>>>>>Guerrer, Da Costa, Talyor,
Brereton>>>>>>>>Da Costa

I'd much sooner have all 4 of those lads here and be around 8m down in sales whilst maintaining a better balanced wage bill, than the toss we bought for 15-20m & higher wages off that list.

I'd keep any of those players we sold over the ones we signed to replace them.

Yes but in context Grabban has scored more overall for us over the last few seasons and also your comparing this year shit with less shit. In order for us to get promoted we need great not less shit. So point taken we could have one of these as a squad player maybe but feck me they were never the answer.

In context Grabban cost 6m and is on the way out. Those lads cost £0 and are on the up.
