Im i right in thinking IF we get 2 points back and beat Sheff Utd and Luton and Burnley both lose this weekend, Luton have to get 9 goals in there last two and Burnley have got to get 12 goals, we could be technically safe by the weekend?
In that scenario we'd be on 31 points and the maximum Burnley could get would be 30, so they would be down

Assuming the narrowest results (1-0 win for us, 1-0 defeat for Luton) they would remain on 25 points so could draw level on points but they'd need to win both of their two remaining games AND overturn a -11 goal difference relative to us (not happening in a million years)

So yeah in that scenario we'd be all but safe

Surely we appealed for all 4? Not saying we get them but aim high

Unlikely given we acknowledged our FFP breach and our wording at the time of the points deduction that four was harsh (implying that we expected a smaller deduction).

If Burnley lose they are down if we win and get 2 points back.

If they draw then the 12 goal swing applies.

Luton is a 9 goal swing at present but.....

For us to win and them to lose the goal difference scenario will look better for us anyway.

As it happens I don't see Luton not beating Everton though who genuinely won't give a fig anymore now they are safe and they weren't very good before that really. If they announce that we have 2 points back before Friday it would be nice because regardless of the result Luton won't over take us unless they win by 10 or more goals.

That's a lot of ifs, buts and maybe's - one step at a time - lets wait and see.

Swansea did more than half of that in one game. This is Forest remember!

If there's one manager in the PL who I'd trust to have his team compete despite being safe, its Dyche. Factor in that Luton are battling his first professional club and the one where he had the most success, I'd be surprised if Everton weren't on it.

I tend to agree - Dyche has his faults and limitations - but he wouldn't let his team 'throw' a game.
Don't forget as well as his allegiance to Burnley. Woan, Stone and him are all ex Forest boys and Woan and Dyche still live in Nottm.

Very true!

But leaving aside that Luton are shit and have only won six games all season (and only one of their last fourteen) the games they have won bar that freak 4-0 against Brighton have all been by a one goal margin

So whatever permutations of results transpire I really can't see Luton overturning our goal difference at this point

It won't happen.

In the worst case in that scenario we beat Sheff Utd by a single goal, lose to Chelsea by 4 and lose to Burnley by two, so Luton need to make up 6 goals on us.

But then it's immediately at least 7 as Luton need to lose one, presumably West Ham, which means they're beating Everton and Fulham by 7 goals.

Not happening.

If it comes to GD we're fine.

If it comes down to the last day and a win for Burnley would put them on the same number of points as us don't forget that every goal they score more than us should they win would make their goal difference one better and ours one worse so instead of them needing twelve they would need six to put them on the same goal difference and could acually save them by goals scored.

Oh Maxi - I'd rather hoped you'd learned your lesson here after 2020!

Sounds like we have every scenario covered :D Or have we?

We draw at Utd, and lose against Chelsea at home
Luton draw against both Everton and West Ham
Burnley beat Newcastle, and lose at Spuds.

All 3 on 27 points going into the last weekend. Wouldn't that be fun ;)

This is good news.

Not for the league as a whole, but for those outside the big 6.

So the 2 Manc clubs and Villa voted against it, while Chelsea bottled the vote altogether.

Really surprised the other big 6 sides went with it. Also Newcastle.

I believe it was that article that stated it was potentially 4.5x what Southampton spent last year - meaning only Chelsea would have breached and at that barely. Not exactly moving the needle toward competitiveness. I'd cap it no more than 3x - but then again I'd argue lower (tighter band) would be better.

But in the end UEFA is the devil that kills it because the Spanish 2 and PSG will never go for any reasonable limitations and they run UEFA/FIFA.

Football in the UK needs a few things:

independent regulation

financial arrangements so that the wealth from pay TV is shared out across the pyramid

VAR suspended until they can get a degree of competence and consistency into it (and VAR officials who are not in the same boys club as the refs themselves)

massive stadium upgrades (the UK still has the attitude of "for football fans that will do")

a prohibition on clubs being owned by a state (whether oil rich or not), and

meaningful fan involvement at all levels of the game

Salary cap, the wages in the Prem are much higher than any other league anyway so it would have zero impact on English teams in Europe, whilst very few clubs would be able to afford the same wages anyway abroad anyway.

Beltingly average footballers are getting paid way too much money these days, its ridiculous. The game is eating itself alive with pure greed. I mean, if you said to a footballer "the max you can earn is 60k per week", they are hardly going to retire and retrain to be a plumber are they? Its would just be 'tough' shit.

2pts back would be huge. 3pts clear of Luton and 4pts clear of Burnley. Still threaten the PL if you don't give us the other 2 we will release the audio from Everton
