Why are Crystal Palace fans allowed to stand up all game?

I'm a it pissed but have just written this email to the club on the train home.

Should I send it?

To whom it may concern,

For the first time in many years I was in a position to buy season tickets this year for myself and my brother-in-law. Previously I was unable to attend matches regularly due to work commitments, and was only able to visit the City Ground on a handful of occasions a year. Thankfully I am now able to make the trip up from London whenever we are playing at home.

I say thankfully but right now I am wondering why I bother. It’s not that the team is struggling but that the match-day experience simply isn’t as much fun as it should be.

I

can accept that things on the pitch are not as good as we have seen in recent years. The fortunes of a football team wax and wane from year to year and no club has a divine right to success for an extended period. I don’t support Forest because I expect them to win; I support them because I know no other way.

I just wish the club would make supporting it easier, and show that the affection that I and so many others have for them is appreciated or even acknowledged. It seems as though the club takes its fans for granted and treats them with indifference at best and frequently little less than outright contempt.

The atmosphere at the City Ground is not what it once was. The more vocal sections of the ground, such as the A-block, have been neutered by over-zealous stewards. It seems that every game home fans are required to never leave their seat even for the briefest of moments. Those that are deemed to be in breach of this are dragged out and threatened with a ban.

I could understand if this rule was universally applied but it seems that away fans are completely exempt from this rule. The last three games we have welcomed Leeds, Crystal Palace and Peterborough to our ground and their fans have remained standing for the entire match without a steward or a policeman ever once even speaking to a single one.

We even extend our hospitality to giving the visitors the stand with the best acoustics in the ground. I sat in the Bridgford Lower last year for the playoff semi-final and I can’t be the only one to have noticed that the low roof and over-hanging upper tier allow a modest number of fans to generate an atmosphere that dominates the stadium. I simply do not believe that the away fans cannot be moved to a less intrusive area of the ground without any decrease in safety for everyone.

For the up-coming visit of Leicester we have even gone as far as to give them almost third of the seats in the ground. I know the club want to maximise tickets sales but surely someone would have realised that having a vocal support can only be of help to a team, and by doing so we are diminishing our chances of victory?

Mr Doughty has decided that he is not going to continue to pour his fortune into the club forever, which is entirely understandable and completely his prerogative. Given that however it seems imperative that the club reconnects with the people who will now provide its funds, namely the season ticket holders.

I would like to know the following:

· Why are ground regulations not enforced the same way in the home and away ends?

· Why can the away fans not be moved?

· Why does the club not give season ticket holder free tickets to a home leg of a cup as so many others do?

I write to you not in any expectation that Nottingham Forest will change its attitude towards its customers based solely on my recommendation but more as a cathartic exercise. I know I am not the only Forest fan to feel this way and hope that somehow this message can get through to those with the power to change matters.

If that's how you feel then send away - it's heartfelt and not impolite. Address a copy directly to Frank Clark? :)

None of these issues are things that haven't been raised with the powers-that-be before, but we do have a different über-boss now, so might be a good time to send?

I wouldn't hold your breath, though.

Any idea what would be the best email address to use?

The only contact on our website that seems remotely relavant is PA to the manager – Amy Sutton

send it although it will make no difference, tbh i thought the atmosphere wasnt too bad today considering.

24,300-something is a decent crowd for this season.

The atmosphere in the stands was decent, buoyed maybe by the holidays and their associated festive fortifications.

The atmosphere on the pitch, not so.

But next season, no thanks, not going to bother with away membership or travelling away except to grounds with unreserved seating (Bristol City) or ones with standing areas (Peterborough). Sick of paying £25-£30 and not being able to see much of the match.

I had been drinking, so this is not neccessarily true.
