Why are Crystal Palace fans allowed to stand up all game?

But Forest fans get banned.

Thousands of them standing creating a right good atmosphere, makes the City Ground look pathetic.

Most clubs value their fans.

Sadly we are not one of them.

Our club see themselves as a massive club so treat the fans as customers who they care only to see them hand over money

Obviously Palace have a different viewpoint to "crowd safety" than do Nottingham Forest.

But it looked to me like a few thousand of them were bouncing up and down and enjoying themselves.

It can be done, as Palace had demonstrated.

And on another point - why the hell didn't we try and sign Darren Ambrose?

Enjoy yourself at a forest match?

Those days are long gone!

To be honest the standing/ sitting debate doesnt bother me. What does bother me though is that in the same ground on the same day you can have home fans thrown out for standing whilst away fans get away with it for the WHOLE game! Wheres the logic in that?

We are just inconvenient cash cows to the Chuckles running the club..

This.

The Doughty & Marthur era bought a lot of business principles to the City ground, such as if your customers are bound by loyalty or feelings to support your business and concequentially give money to it, then you can treat them like absolute shit.

Safe standing should come back. Those who want to stand can and also pay less for the privilege and those who want to sit without people standing up in front of them can do that. Hugh Robertson, the sport minister, has just completely dismissed the idea on Radio 4 so I think a major effort will be required by fans of all English clubs to get the change made. All the evidence from the Bundesliga is that this makes sense and is perfectly safe so lets get it over here. I think the atmosphere at the CG is poor and has been for sometime and standing areas would really help as well as reducing the cost to fans.

If everyone in the stadium stood up what could honestly be done about it?

Last time I had a run in with a steward everyone in the stadium was stood up and I was just stood up behind them. The dick head kept telling me to sit down and nobody in front. Our stewarding, well scratch that, everything to do with the club rarely makes sense and as customers we're treated like shit.

I don't see how you can make that judgement, unless you've actually been a steward? To me, everything the stewards do, makes perfect sense, in line with rules and regulations set down by the football licensing authority. of course, not all the rules and regulations are agreed with by me, but stewards can only do what they're told, or be fired.

So it makes perfect sense to walk from the back of the stand forwards telling people to sit down and getting stroppy when it's pointed out to them that they might want to ask people at the front to sit down first? Of course it does...

Okay, in that one example, the methodology is clearly wrong.

Surely you should find it hard to make a judgement unless you have seen some of forests stewards in action, some of the security staff/bouncers are useless pricks, other grounds iv been to stewards are much better than ours, ours are truly awful and they were the main reason I f**ked off giving the club my £600 this year.

I have seen them in action. Pretty much every time I come to a match...

Sometimes what they're doing is more interesting than what's going on on the pitch.

I'd say it's about a 90-10 split, with 90% of the issues being caused by the fans, 10% by the stewards.

My dad worked as a steward during the League One days as he couldnt be arsed to fork out money to watch shite. He told me he let people do what they wanted (within reason) and simply watched the game. As he was a football fan he knew that there was no need to be a dick.

He told me that a lot of other stewards thrived on the power trip and were constantly looking for confrontation.

We really need to relax stewarding at the CG. It probably causes more trouble than it prevents!

I sit in the lower tier of the BC stand and where I am there are two stewards at each end of the block, walking up and down during the game.

I've never seen them get aggressive with anyone or cause problems. The only time they had to take a hard line with one supporter was last season when there was one guy - not a regular - who was quite clearly inebriated and was abusive to others in the same block so they called the Police to take him away.

I would comment though that of the four stewards, three are older blokes (probably 45+) an the other is a younger guy. They are not (at least I don't think they are...) from one of the security companies Forest use (Sovereign Security is it?)

...and 100% caused by the club.

It is they who have forced the stewards to victimise our supporters and subsequetly killed any atmosphere.

A more level headed club like Palace have recognised the importance of vocal support over overly bureaucratic regulations that no Council has enforced, despite their threats to do so, and never will.
