Any impact on the A-roads is the preserve of DfT/Highways Agency so many agencies and components in this jigsaw.
Well the whole area is a mess. Look at Lady Bay Bridge at the moment for example, or indeed when Clifton Bridge was partially closed.

What's really needed involves other areas not just the immediate area around the ground and the two crossings.

A (preferably dual carriageway) road crossing somewhere between Gunthorpe and Lady Bay - possibly at Radcliffe or simply between Gamston and Colwick - would immediately alleviate the traffic heading into the area simply to cross the river. You might see more traffic on the A612 but most of that could be widened anyway without too much effort if needed.

What I'd then like to see them look at is improving access around the crossings especially on the north of the river where the room is more accessible. There's really no reason why traffic heading out to the A612 which crossed Trent Bridge has to do that absolutely absurd trek up London Road turning right and around the Notts ground. They need to allow the right turn into Meadow Lane (which could be done by turning left around the existing loop to the Meadows) and then make that road 4 lanes to the triangle roundabout.

Whilst it's nice to have the Embankment as a quiet space, allowing traffic between the A453 and A60 to go there, as opposed to having to go around the station, probably would be better for traffic flow around the city than plunging everything onto one road. Having redundancy in a network is good, but yes, we shouldn't compromise the quiet space either. So they need to pop a new route to the north of this linking that side together as well.

It's really frustrating sometimes driving around moving from stopping at one set of traffic lights to another, so this is something they need to look at again.

None of that needs any major fixes to road infrastructure at all.

Also, if people can park near to the ground, then this means fewer issues moving pedestrians around too.

And actually, I don't think it would take much effort to at least extend NET from the station / Meadows area to Trent Bridge either on matchdays.

Minor point but it wouldn't be Highways England here, they only look after the Strategic Road Network, which around Nottingham is the M1, A52 and A453.

There's a map here if you're sad and bored

Indeed. The tiers are confusing here in terms of who looks after what.

Trunk roads are usually looked after by HE, which is what's on your map. So that's the A46, A453, A52 and M1.

But this is simply a maintenance status, and not necessarily (though often together) traffic importance related; paradoxically, there are also a fair amount of more minor motorways which aren't trunk.

Everything else is looked after by the relevant authorities, in this case as Notts is two-tier, this is Notts County Council themselves, but within the City itself, this is Nottm City Council.

To confuse matters further A-roads also appear two-tier - the primary routes with the green signs and the non-primary ones with the white ones. In theory this is a routing convenience between places of traffic importance, but even then this has the odd nonsense - for example Nottm and Loughborough are both designated primary destinations, and the A60 connects both (and is the best way between the two) yet loses its primary status to the A6011.

Fair point. I wasn't sure if A60 was in the SRN or not, so added them.

But the point I'm making is that A60, A612, A6011 etc are not council roads, they're DFT roads, and Highways Agency has a broader remit than Highways E gland, iirc.

No they aren't.

Only the A52 is trunk in the area, the A60, A612, A6011 are all LA roads.

The Highways Agency rebranded as Highways England in 2016, then rebranded again as National Highways recently. It's all the same company and people, they just keep changing their email addresses! It's all related to the politics of the UK and distinguishing themselves from the Scottish and Welsh equivalents but I'd be lying if I said I fully understood it!

The DfT set policy, manage overall budget, own the key design standards and such but they don't directly operate any of the roads. NH manage the SRN, NCC or RBC will manage all the roads near the WFCG.

That's not to say it isn't complicated, it's bad enough dealing with one Local Authority a lot of the time, but two adjacent ones with competing agendas is never going to be simple.

I vote we sue the council for about 300 grand for the lack of availability of Lady Bay Bridge for the first few games of the season.

You want to play silly buggers, let's play silly buggers.

Someone has to pay for the proposed new mobility scooter zone around Meadow Lane on match days,Otis.
I've just had a notice posted to me about my neighbour doing a double storey extension which ordinarily i wouldn't object to but thinking of getting them to pay for a conservatory and sort my drive out as well.

Forest are paying for upgrades all over east midlands? Can they sort Long Eaton's road layout too?

So, at the risk of entering the ITK storm I have just attended a pre season briefing at the ground and we were told one or two bits that may or may not be of interest. Approx 19,500 season cards have been renewed and with 3,000 away fans it leaves about 7,000 tickets that will be sold on a match day basis. This is more than I thought there would be and is good news for non season ticket holders. The reason for leaving this number available is to allow them to move the season ticket holders from the PT stand when they finally get planning permission. On that note there was a meeting today at the ground with the chief planning officer and a load of people from the council (about 20 people in total we were told). The report from it was that it was very positive and constructive and things finally look like thay are starting to move. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for conveying that TT, it sounds encouraging.

So if that's right and 7000 tickets available with 9500 members in Gold/Silver/Bronze, I'd be very surprised to see any reach general sale this season.

It'll be even worse with the PT stand rebuild but absolutely essential in the long run.

I've mentioned before that I have recent experience of development projects and dealing with local authority's and all this entails through planning. As someone has already stated, the £300k quoted transport infrastructure contribution is, relatively speaking, peanuts. Especially when considering the likely impact assessment.

I'd view this as the LA not seeking to milk the situation - almost an impossibility considering the layers of independent and party interest scrutiny - and more a sign they understand the valuable contribution the club makes to the local economy. In fact, I'd go as far to say this is weighted-in to the evaluation.

As a side-note, the variance in scheme costs posted earlier is (c£94m v £80m) will sharpen minds and pencils and add some incentive to get this matter closed asap. Inflation in the sector is only going to compound again in the next two-three years.

That’s actually made me feel way more positive about the 2 bronze memberships I bought.

When we're bottom of the league, most of those memberships'll be tucked away in the back of drawer.

Me too.

Although my opportunities to attend in person nowadays are a bit limited (unless I am in the U.K. and can actually make it to a match) at least if this is the case, it’ll make the chances of getting a ticket, much better.

And at this point, I would take a ticket to watch Forest against anyone in the top flight.

Worth bearing in mind we’ve had a new set of building regs for energy efficiency come in mid June… so the cost of build goes up to meet the new stricter carbon targets too. More insulation, more renewables, higher spec heat/cool/ventilation/hot water systems.

Based on your experience and where you think we are at moment, do you have any idea how long we might need to wait still for a final consent? Are we close or is there still lots to resolve?

I've worked on stadium developments including the new stand at Anfield.

When the final pieces lock into place, approval can be very quick. It's getting the pieces into place that takes the time.
