The Relegation Dogfight 23/24

It's definitely not over yet. We're in the driving seat for sure, but complacency could be our downfall. We've all supported Forest more than long enough to know how things can suddenly go wrong in the most inexplicable fashion.

Relying on other teams to lose is always dangerous ground - especially when one of them is playing West Ham.

I'm a bit more relaxed about Burnley (though not entirely) as they're playing a Spurs side who at least have something significant to play for - and they need to win to stand any chance. Not beyond the realms of possibility - but you'd like to think Spurs would be sufficiently up for it.

Luton are a different proposition. They've obviously got their limitations in comparison to other sides at this level, but they never, ever give up and this has enabled them to snatch results in games in which they've been played off the park for 90% of the match. They're annoyingly difficult to kill off, as we've found to our cost twice and it wouldn't surprise me if they go beat West Ham - and if we also lose to Chelsea, we're heading into the final match needing seven changes of underwear.

In an ideal world, they'll both lose and we'll be virtually safe before we even play - but when have we ever been able to do things the easy way?

Does anyone actually think we get points back this week meaning Burnley are mathematically relegated before they play again? Whether its the correct decision or not, I don't see this happening; it would be too unfair to them. I think we are about to find out why they were delaying, which because they want to keep the interest flowing as long as possible.

I agree that you make your own luck. Today has to be the day our luck changes, otherwise ….View attachment 38963
I’ve changed my tune a bit on this since earlier

So you think that Luton can get four points from two games? It has taken them 15 games to get the last four points so I think if they do it would be classed as a bona fide miracle considering the two games they have are both against decent opposition.

Are people honestly still claiming that Luton are going to get 4 to 6 points from their remaining games? The last 3 or 4 games have shown us they don't have it in them, plucky and committed though they may be. I'll be surprised if we aren't sat here next Saturday evening home and hosed even if we lose to Chelsea. Although I think we need one more point I think it's greater than evens that we stay up even if we lose our last two.

I don't necessarily think they will get four points from the last two games - I just dare not rule it out.

Why is it unfair to them? They're lucky to still be alive in the race. We're the only unlucky ones.

Why would it be unfair to them? The only reason they aren’t already relegated is that we had four points arbitrarily deducted. On the pitch, they would be down.

You know after that Sabri stoke defeat at home, I’d rather us just beat Chelsea

Thinking about this after I took a nap.

Man Sabri was a really good guy I wish he worked out with us but I guess it set off a sequence of events that brought us back to the biggest stage. I hope he, just like Samba Sow, comes back as a guest or something.

The decision has to be revealed at some point soon.
I think Burnley are down regardless of when it’s announced.

I just cant get excited or relax until its done, seems to be tempting fate.

A Luton win and a loss for us next week would put the shitters on everyone again. Having said that I wouldnt be suprised to see us give Chelsea a good game with the players maybe being a bit more relaxed.

Does everyone kick off at the same time next week?

No, and we will be safe by the time we kick off.

Party time and a double over Chelsea.

You Reds!

I think Burnley will be gone by 5pm Saturday and maybe even on Tuesday pending points appeal.

Hoping West Ham do us a really big favour but wouldn't surprise me if Luton managed to get a draw.

Be nice to end the season at home and with a game to spare however we do it, whether it's a favour from West Ham or just beating Chelsea.

I dont think anyone is "claiming" that, merely that 4 points could do it and its possible.

Lets hope that by kick off on Saturday that possibilty no longer exists. Id like to relax at at least one game this season.

When I think back to those days it always felt like we could never get our best players out on the pitch, the most effective ones always had some sort of chronic injury Andy Reid, Chrissy Cohen, Samba Sow, Jack Hobbs, Britt Assombalonga…

I hope so,Johhny-but I never count my chickens with Forest.
It’s not over until the fat lady sings (remember Yeovil and Stoke?).
I do remember, but they were in our own hands 🤣

Tottenham will smash Burnley, and West Ham already beat Luton away so there’s no reason why they won’t win their last home game of the season. It’s maybe not nailed on but it’s got to be everyone’s expectation, so why not just enjoy the week ahead?

And who’s to say we won’t beat Chelsea anyway?
