The Mood

Expectation + Result = Mood. We've made a rod for our own backs with such a great start, putting expectations higher than perhaps they should be. We'd do well to remember that everyone would have been delighted with a top half finish pre-season.

No-one should be that gutted if top 5 doesn't happen in the end.

I always expected us to get nothing from Newcastle, and from Arsenal & City too, so anything is a bonus out of those 3.

We're still punching well above our weight, and even after a slight blip in the last 2 games, we're still 3rd, and the teams around us need to play each other.

It's going to be very close come the end of the season, and i don't think for 1 minute we'll finish top 4 due to the lack of depth we have compared to the others, but anything better than 8th (or whatever Europe means) would be amazing!

Keep fighting reds!

Like everyone else has been saying, we'd all take a mid-table position in a heartbeat before the season started. However, it's been such a hardly believable blast until a couple GW's ago. And then suddenly, the fatigue, mental and physical, due to the limited squad and to just plain performing at 100% all the time has started setting in, with pockets of chaos and complete loss of composure appearing more and more frequently in games, and there have been times when I've thought it could all go out of control. Which would be such a shame at this point.

Which is also why I agree that this 2nd half could be a lifeline and a springboard for the remainder - we just NEED a result. The 2-3 win vs Man U was the one that set off that glorious run in December, and we need another such result now. Even if we've been punching above our weight, it's probably true, but it's the same bunch guys who have done that. They just need to believe they can do it again - I don't think it needs to be said that they want it way more than we do. This run of home games could give us that.

Mood: Amazed we're still third! We've lost 3 out of the last 4 and haven't changed positions. I am starting to think that top 6 won't happen now. I don't think we can hold off Man City, and staying ahead of all but one of Newcastle, Bournemouth, Chelsea and Villa is unlikely. I'm not saying I would take 7th/8th (whichever gets us into the Conference League), but I wouldn't be disappointed at this point.

In truth, I feel sad that the good form has deserted us and we seem to have stopped defending well as a team. I'm relieved we're not in a relegation battle, but I'm alread thinking about next season being another struggle.

There are no really established sides in the Premier League,Hannah-apart from the ‘big 6’ and probably Newcastle and Villa.
Most (if not all the remaining teams) are only one bad season away from the drop (look at Leicester 2 years ago) so
it’s important that Forest keep evolving and get the summer window spot on if possible without overspending and
ending up in trouble that way.

You could always take a look at the table and see that there's only two teams in the whole English football club pyramid that are sitting above us.

And then take a good look at all of the names that are sitting below us.

Believe me Norman (as I'm sure others on here will agree), you're wasting your time by responding to that particular post.

Even if we miss out on a Champions League spot, we still have a good chance of qualifying for one of the other European competitions, which would be a massive success.

It's a rough spell at the moment, but we are still on course for a finish that greatly exceeds any expectations we had at the start of the season.

No reason we can't get 70 + points this season, which may be good enough for Champions league.

A home win in the next round and a decent draw in quarters and we could be on our way to Wembley.

All to play for.
Not trying to dampen ur parade but would an injury to Chris Wood not be a reason? Injuries to key players impact most teams at some stage during a season

Give your all for the next 2 home league games, after which there is only 1 game in March giving plenty of time for recharging the batteries for the final push. Not sure how many international matches various players might have in store.

Beat Arsenal so three points from last two games better than drawing both.
If we can win tomorrow, or against City although our best chance is tomorrow I feel, then 3 points from that really tough run of 3 games is decent. I think we'd have all taken 3 draws before the Newcastle game.

You can say that about any side
I don't think so, how many points has his goals got u in the last 8 to 10 games? U are very dependent on him and he is one of the most difficult positions on a pitch to replace. Just look at Arsenal's troubles

3 points against Arsenal would be a hugely significant result for u, it would lay the foundation for a very serious CL run. It is a worry that Chelsea have Saints and Leicester in the next 2 games

Yeah exactly… you can say about any side if X player gets injured they will be in trouble.

Man City have completely collapsed without Rodri

The opening 10 fixtures of the second half of the season are as follows with the result in the first half also given:
1st half 2nd half points difference
Wolves. D. W. +2
Liverpool. W. D. -2
S’hampton W. W. 0
Bournemouth D. L. -1
Brighton. D. W. +2
Fulham. L. L. 0
Newcastle L. L. 0
Arsenal. L. ?
Man City. L. ?
Ipswich. W. ?

We are currently achieving 1 point better than the first half of the season and even if we lose the next 2 will still be 1 point better! Ffs we should all be absolutely ecstatic and not be beating ourselves up as we continue through this run of games against the ONLY 4 teams who beat us in the first half of the season
