The Joe Lolley Renaissance

It’s weird how I’ve seen so many people (on Twitter mainly 🤦🏼‍♂️) questioning Steve’s dealing of a number of players.

Yet one thing that he was massively good at, amongst other things, was building an amazing team spirit. Hard to imagine he could do that and treat so many people like shit. I met him a couple of times and I know people who met him also and he never gave off those vibes.

Do we think people are actively trying to make him look bad for some reason?

Bit annoying some of our fan base seem to want to put the blame at Steve's feet for the manner of which he was told.
Especially considering the attitudes and practices of some we have working behind the scenes at the club, I cannot envision Steve dropping Joe a text and telling him to go train with 15 year olds.

It sounds like something one of Marinakis's cronies would do if I'm honest. Basically, a 'f*** off, don't want you around so leave'.
When Steve left, we got the basic announcement. When Gary Brazil left, we didn't get any acknowledgement from the club to him.
We can live in a world were we adore Steve Cooper for what he did but can also accept that he was cutthroat when he thought players were disrupting the squad.

Personal speculation on the incident is that Coops did the deed, but it fits the MO of the club in general too, so who knows the circumstances surrounding it.

Again, we go back to the problems faced when managing bloated squads. Whoever is manager has to crack on and get shit done, regardless of any sentimentality; there's usually just so many players here to deal with he will barely have chance to hold meetings to spare people's feelings. The focus will be on the practical stuff like training, assessing and game prep.

Well, I'm surprised you don't know the circumstances surrounding it as you're so certain about the circumstances surrounding everything f***ing else

Like many other things in life we will probably never get to the truth of this matter , because even in this thread itself he has gone from being banished to the U23’s to being banished to the U15’s. And that is in the space of about 15 posts .
Worse for the lad, he’s been banished to Australia.

I thought the British stopped doing that about 200 years ago?

I thought it was the under 23s but how he described it on the aussie interview thing was that because a fair amount of the u23s were called to train with the first team (Due to low numbers) it mean that he was left with those not deemed old enough to train with the first team who some were 15 years old.

A good, honest, pro. Really pleased for him he’s had success down under.

Blimey, I hope that he's good at putting shelves up 😁. Well done Joe.

He is perhaps a classic example of why players should move if opportunities arise when they are at their prime. Injury/loss of form might mean that they don't get another chance. That said, I am pleased that he stayed at Forest rather than moving to Villa.

I am not sure that Joe would pass a medical once he got to a certain level.

His condition isn't curable - well, apart from cutting massive chunks out of his calf muscles - it's only really manageable which he was doing when he was with us.

Like everyone I think he over-exerted himself in the Lamouchi season with the congested end in lockdown and also before that Karanka and O'Neill were reliant on him getting through most games to create chances as the only other option was Ameobi really.

He had the condition first come up at Hudds when he said he trained too hard to try and get into the team and here was the only time he was really playing every week.

He's also another who didn't really come up through a top academy system, though he was on the books of one of the West Mids clubs as a kid I think, but was released for being too small from recollection, and then played non league whilst going to university and getting picked up by Kidderminster and then Huddersfield not long after. I think in one season he ended up promoted to the PL with Hudds and started it for a non league team... so he came up through the leagues quickly and did his fitness catch up? I know when we got Garath McCleary from Bromley which was probably a similar rise though we were in L1 at the time we didn't really use him for a bit whilst he caught up with the standards etc of being a League player and then he ended up having a long career with Reading, I think he's still in league football...

Joe is talented enough for the PL if he trusts his body and that's the big if why he won't make it there. Even if he did you'd imagine pretty much any club would baulk at his SMSS and he'd fail the medical because it's not treatable without putting his career at serious risk. Plus he's now almost 32. Australia is perfect for him

Joe has been fantastic for our domestic league. His quality has been on display. Really happy for him but it is a shame he’s playing for a scum club
