In the first semifinal of Copa Libertadores, 2x defending champion Palmeiras were knocked out by Athletico Paranaense after a 2-2 draw. Paranaense go through 3-2 on aggregate. Palmeiras, despite a great game from Gustavo Scarpa and dominating the 1st half, had a man sent off on the stroke of halftime. Highlights here:

2nd Copa Libertadores semifinal, return leg: Flamengo 2-1 Velez Sarsfield (6-1 aggregate). Flamengo will play Athletico Paranaense 29 Oct. in Guyaquil.

1st Copa Sudamericana semifinal, return leg: Independiente del Valle 3-0 Melgar (6-0 aggregate). 2nd semi tomorrow night.

Also, shoutout to Sacramento Republic of the USL (2nd tier of US football) who were attempting to become the first non-MLS side to win the US Open Cup since 1999. They had a great cup run but lost in the final last night to Orlando City 3-0 in Orlando.

Yep and its actually a bit of a worse story, alleged racist language from the star player of DC United which saw Phil Nevilles team stop the game to consider whether to carry on or not (Rooney subbed the accused off). In fairness Rooney gets plaudits for his reaction to the event.

Independiente del Valle of Ecuador beat Sao Paulo 2-0 in the Copa Sudamericana final. Los Negriazules previously won the trophy in 2019.

Independiente del Valle are a pretty unique club really. Firstly to break the Brazilian dominance in South America is a great achievement in itself but to do it on crowds of less than 12k is amazing.

They're a pretty small club really is a very small league even by South American standards but constantly get by with a really good youth development program. They'll probably now lose a couple of their better players following this win.

In Gallardo's final game, River Plate go to to Racing and win 1-2 depriving Racing of the league title on the final day and handing it to River's eternal rival Boca Juniors who drew 2-2 at home to Independiente. Boca held a 1 point lead entering the final day and won the league with 52 points with Racing second on 50.
