So out of boredom and because someone I know but don't like said Cooper is overrated as we've spent enough to be comfortably mid table and "it isn't exactly hard to establish yourself in the prem" I decided to have a quick look at how hard it seems to be, looking at last 10 years

For the record I still think it's insane this is even a debate for a side 23 years out the prem and in their second season (last year "doing a Fulham" this year "second season syndrome") especially when we are just three point away from literally being mid table and in the same position as a side who have spent billions to sit in 10th which is apparently so good the BBC has two different articles up about their improvement today...

but

Last 10 years here are the sides who have got promoted and where they are now

Obviously it doesn't tell the full story, I'd say Villa and Newcastle aren't exactly typical promoted sides but that can obviously be argued.

But out of thirty promoted sides three are in the top half of the premier league, take out Villa and Newcastle and just one. Of the more "normal" promoted sides in the last ten years you could argue only three seem to have established themselves as "mid table premier league sides" but then you have the likes of Leicester that show you can go beyond that, win the whole thing, win the FA Cup, finish 5th twice...yet still go down

I know this is boring and doesn't say too much, but I thought it was nice to show some perspective. If I'd gone further back just a few more seasons you'd see likes of Cardiff and Hull again, Reading in League One, QPR again, Norwich again, Swansea, Blackpool in League One, WBA again, Birmingham etc.

As much as PREMIER LEAGUE MONEY sounds good we are competing against other sides with that money and who have had that money for many more years than us. Chances are much more likely we'll get relegated than establish ourselves so when we are currently much closer to the top half than relegation I feel that should be seen as a positive

Too realistic for Nottingham Forest.

After seeing a post on another thread about Harry Bassett being on a pod, I was reminded of the time I used to work in the Community Office during his time at Forest.
One evening around March ’98 (the promotion season they were having the final of a long running kids tournament. The big prize was that by getting to the final they got play it on the City Ground pitch. This was scheduled to be at half time during a reserve team match.

Myself and the other Uni work placement lad were tasked that afternoon to setup 2 goals on the side pitch, ready for them to use.
Our boss Gordon (lovely bloke) was very clear that we had to make the goals big as they didn’t want it to end in a draw.
For some reason they kept these goals under the counter in the ticket office in huge long bags ready to build. Knowing we had to make them big, we grabbed 4 bags to double the size of the goals.

Staggering across the carpark wondering if we actually needed 4 bags as they weighed a tone, as surely they’d be big enough? But we thought that he wouldn’t mention about making them big in the first place if one bag was enough…
Anyway we use all the poles in the bags to build two low wide goals, same as what you get on any 5 a side pitch. Job done.

I come into the office the next morning. First words out of Gordons mouth “I told you to make the goals big!”.
Turns out the 2nd half of the reserve game had to be delayed significantly as this kids cup final overran. Their game finished 0-0, went all the way to penalties and even then they struggled to score.
I was as popular that day as I was the time I unknowingly parked in the chairman space.

Train strike on EMR and LNER on the day of the Everton game.
Going to cause a lot of problems for those coming in by train.

Gordon Coleman. Great guy and extremely intelligent. He was savvy enough to detach the community department from the club financially. Gordon scared the senior execs at Forest because he was far superior intellectually and he saw right through them. The fact that he also had a psychology degree and a master's in business meant that he read every move before they even knew what they were going to do. They underestimated him as being a stupid ex footballer (he played around 300 times for Preston IIRC). Detaching the community department from the club financially made it almost impossible for them to remove him, especially as he made it the most successful community department in the country.

I learned a hell of a lot from Gordon, he was a great coach and mentor.

yeah, I even use some of his techniques to this day. not often that you meet someone in a management role that really gets it.
so many funny stories too.

Yes same heere, seeing everything he predicted playing out in real life really gave me an interest in psychology. That with his approach to business and how to deal with people. He was an extremely charasmatic guy too. He rarely spoke about his footballing career, his highlight (despite being in Prestons hall of fame) was being in Minder, as most of the clips where they cut to where of him (the one where Terry looks after the footballer) he was proud of that

Where have Bonfy and Rocka gone?

Genuine question here, prolific posters that have not been on for days. weeks. I cant see any arguments or anything, both legends.

Where are they?

Rocka did say Bonfy was taking a break, without much further explanation, before disappearing himself.
If you ask me, they’ve run away together to start a new life.

Reffed the little guys (under9s) last night--and started talking to one of the coaches from BTB Academy (Mike Durodola) --he was pissing about with the ball and obviously had some skill, so we started talking. Turns out he played for Southampton in their youth system, and grew up in Essex, and was a Forest fan when he was younger. His team won 3-2 lol. No, I am not biased.

I know it's still a rip-off even with my suggestion but wouldn't "2 shirts for £99" look psychologically much better than
.

Wow, that almost makes them a reasonable price...

... though it does of course mean you either need to not get one of the shirts, or pay full price for it, to get all three.

I have just listened to the new format Garibaldi Red podcast, hosted by some school kid, a woman who doesn't appear to understand football, Nigel Jemson (who appears to be the man who is hurting becuase he hasn't gone with the Forest Focus lot), and some Sunderland fan who hasn't watched Forest because he watches sunderland.
Nothing really of substance to keep my attention.
It will be interesting to watch the Forest focus podcast to compare and contrast.

New podcast was ok. Same as it used to be. Matt still sounds like he wants to top himself. Emily was her usual wishy washy self. Nice to have the new opinions on there from the Irish guy
