I hear what you are saying, but my point was slightly different.
Simply - Generally we play better against the better teams - we need to bring those performances into the games against the lesser teams. With the quality we already have and better defensive organisation that would put us in the 'middle 8' group of clubs.
My complaint is the amount of points thrown away against the lesser clubs
Aaah... i missed your point about the big clubs - and you are quite right.
The players seem to get more tuned into the technical skills and play a level above what they do against lesser sides.
Is it because the top sides tend to play a more expansive game, allowing us a bit more space and time?
It is interesting to note that apart from Chelsea (currently 7th in the table) ythe only teams with a positive goal difference are the top 6.
All the rest (bar chelsea) have negative goal differences.

They are, but that's probably also squad related too - to much chopping and changing defensively (shape to a point too), commanding presences not available with any regularity... I can see with better decisions from refs and decision making among the squad another five to ten points perhaps, but think 20 is a stretch.

Obviously it would help if we do t give four away for free, and loading so many from winning positions too, though see previous answer on depth there really.

Guess my take is more over 38 games you get what you deserve more or less.
20? We finished on 38 points last season, I'm talking about 44-46 so you're talking converting 3 draws into wins really, don't lose 2 goal leads etc, hardly ideas of Grandeur is it?

This season we would be on 33 without the deduction so still behind last season PPG ratio and relegated in any normal season, its not been good enough and If it doesn't improve then we simply will be relegated. Aiming for an extra 6-8 points is not an ambition, its essential to survival based on this season.

We could of course finish on '33' (29) points this season and therefore you would be looking at an extra 11-13point but the point I'm making is this squad shouldn't be on 33 points anyway.

We might have to agree to disagree on this one but for me, another season like one this is failure, or not progress at best. Time to push on a bit 44 points would be lovely.

If we survive of course.

Fulham being a prime example.

When you're at home you should be pressing the bollox out of the away team, getting creative players on the ball and going for it against 90% of the teams you play. We've not done that nearly enough this season yet as if by magic, when we do, we look far better.

Yep we should be another looking for another 4 wins for example.

I actually (wrongly) based the 20 points thing on us currently being on 26 and ignored the deduction, so it's probably more like 12-15 more then - four or five more wins.

I'd like that, and think the first 11 are capable, but that we are talking about if in terms of survival says a lot...

Add the right players and you'd hope that would be achievable. Add/lose none and I think we'll be around the point per game mark again and will struggle.

Success next year for me is staying up again tbh. The bit we might disagree on is that would be progress for me - I think it takes longer to establish yourself at this level (certainly longer than our owner does). It would be nice if you're right and the current squad is underperforming, I just don't see it for the reasons mentioned earlier.

Fair enough point there mate.

I'll settle on 42 and hear no more of it!

This fan base of the club is being devoured by a conspiratorial mindset and I for one am saddened by this.

I'm not looking for a debate or to change anyone's mind. I just wanted to cry out loud for the club and its future.

You're probably right and it might be a case of Occam's razor in all cases. Unfortunately the authorities have not done themselves any favours in terms of behaviours or transparency and the club have fueled that lack of trust today.

Not looking forward to 3 months of no matches, with nothing to fill the airwaves but stadium plan anxieties, Nuno-Coop comparisons, in-depth FFP analysis, VAR conspiracies and people rushing Murillo & MGW out the door.

At least we've got the Euros to fill some of that in. We can moan about Southgate's selection of 6 right backs and 3 defensive midfielders instead.

I actually am, after the way this season has gone. I need a long break from constantly bad referee/ VAR decisions, Points Deduction sagas that drag on for months, and comically bad set-piece defending.
I'm exactly the same Congo. Just need a break from the entire thing. It's been a horrible season.
So I won't be watching any football, including the internationals. So by the time August rolls around I'll feel fresh and reinvigorated for the forthcoming season.

On that note, anyone know what date the first games are to be played?

Dunno but we're guaranteed to be given away games first and last game as usual

I think it's generally accepted that VAR is not going to be scrapped, so it would be pointless to back the Wolves submission.

Surprised myself, but I agree with Klopp on this! He says nothing wrong with the concept of VAR, just the implementation. To paraphrase his comments.

I'm so up for this, I hope nothing goes wrong on Sunday!

Fixtures released June 18th. The Euros will be underway from the 14th, it will be a Summer to remember. The Olympic games start 12 days after we win the Euros. And the Premier league restarts 17th August.

How are we going to fit in the cricket, F1, Tour de France and the allotment?
