Summer 25 Transfer Window!!!

I think our current squad would look like the below, we'd essentially have to cut 2 players from the 'squad' we've used this season. Presumably Moreira & Hennessey?

As I've been saying in the Academy thread, the key to a healthy number of players in the squad (you really need 25 ready-to-play players when competing both in the home league and in Europe, not to mention cup games) is for the Academy to steadily produce good talent. Only one club-trained player is simply not good enough. We've very often had the same problem, and had to play, for example, with an inexperienced 17-year-old striker at the Old Trafford. The problem of the lack of club-trained players is not important enough if your list B players are top quality and proven (as has been the case for us this season), but under normal circumstances this is rarely the case.

In the long run, your European future requires the Academy to up its game.

BJ, Cash and Bamford (as Woods understudy) for CL next year it is then. :frantic:

Levy isn't gonna sell Brennan for a cut price, he will cost a fortune - probably more than what we sold for.

Cash is a very good shout, he could come in as a backup - I am also presuming Villa are gonna have to do some PSR deals prior to the deadline so throwing him in one could be beneficial to everyone. He has had a poor year, they'll be looking to offload.

I'd definitely take Cash back as cover/competition for Aina.

Would obviously take Brennan back too but he'd cost a ridiculous amount. Nuno-ball would be a perfect fit for him.

I think the Priorities in the Summer have to be a Midfielder that can actually control the game with the ball and a Forward.
Because I think we do need to be playing with more possession from next season. At Wolves Nuno averaged 46.8%, 48.3%, 49.3%. We are currently averaging 39.8%.

Our whole team is geared towards a counter attacking playing style we don’t have a profile who can break down a low block/create something out of nothing. That’s exactly what we need in the summer because at the moment we’re too one dimensional.

In other news I’ve noticed someone has taken time out of their day to give my profile a nice little update, cheers 👌

I think the Summer is huge, doesn't matter where we finish. Europe would help big time though

Looking at the Defensive Options - We only have Williams, Milenkovic, Murillo, Morato - Hopefully Aina
So Two Full Backs are needed. A Right Sided Centre Back is also needed.

Midfield Options - Currently Anderson, Danilo, Sangare, Yates, Dominguez, Gibbs-White - I can see Dominguez leaving in the Summer and possibly Sangare. A Midfielder that knows how to control the ball is priority.

Forward Options - Wood, Awoniyi, CHO, Elanga, Jota, Sosa. Personally I see Awoniyi, Jota and Sosa leaving. They are hardly getting any game time and we need upgrades.

So we are looking at 7/8 Signings in the Summer

We also have Carmo, Stamenic, Bindon, Turner, Richards, Panzo, Bowler, Dennis, O'Brien coming back - I think Bindon will get a Championship loan and then the rest will be sold.

Moreno will definitely go and Toffolo probably go as well to create another space for another non home grown player. Maybe Sosa, Jota, Awoniyi, Sangare, Boly in this list as well if we seek like for like upgrades.

Our only problem is the list in green. Short of buying Brennan or Worrall back we aren't going to add anyone else to that list.

I wouldn't be surprised if we don't keep Taylor around next season if we qualify for Europe. Obviously not for the Prem squad but could take a spot in the European squad. We can always send him out on loan in January depending on how we get on in Europe.

I wouldn't mind us taking a look at Josh Sargent from Norwich. It seems his problem is staying fit for a whole season, but if he is playing second fiddle to Wood, you wouldn't have to rely on him. Good size, good record in the Champ, I think he is a really good player and wouldn't/shouldn't cost silly money if Norwich don't get promoted. Norwich fans also rave about him, which is never a bad thing. As the second/third option with potentially European football in the schedule, I think he could be a nice pickup.

Forgive me for being a pedant, but surely you wouldn’t be surprised if we do keep Taylor around next season?

I think we might be looking at another backup goalkeeper as well after Exeter.
You simply can’t afford to go into a Premier League season without 2 good goalkeepers.

Don't apologise, pedantry is its own reward.

Think we need to take advantage of this season and sell as many of the fringe players as we can and invest in the areas we need the back up.
I reckon we should go for the Leicester keeper that was keeping them in games as back up/long term successor to sels.
I think doughty at plucky Luton was great last season and would fit in the squad well plus would be available at a snip when they go down to league 1.
I think we need a proper 6 I know Luiz turned his nose up at us but there’s got to be someone that can be an upgrade for us there.
Striker… yes please. Woods in the form of his life but we need someone cos awoniyi is a lovely bloke and I think he was great for that few games in the first season but we’ve changed how we play since then.

This is another reason I'm pissed off we didn't sign 3/4 players in Jan.

Sign a handful...integrate...another window, another handful in and integrate...it's an easier and smoother transition doing it that way rather than having to land 7/8 or even upwards in one go.

Yep, Jan window isn't easy, we all know that. But to land no-one when it's clear the squad is being stretched to it's limits? Frustrating. I'm sure there are reasons for it, but it's no less frustrating none the less.
