If we don't go up we can assume Johnson will go. The good thing about the cup run is that we are likely to get nearer £25m for him now. The rumour was that the reason he didn't sign the contract offered was that his team wanted a buyout at £8m and Forest wanted £12m. Thank god it didn't get signed.
We should be able to spend £20m of the £25m and keep inside FFP. That's big bucks in the Championship. An ideal scenario would be that Cash goes to Athletico and we have a sell on clause, we should then trade that and maybe some cash for Davis.
We are still after Wallace who will be a free transfer (albeit a big signing on fee). With Mighten a year older, Grabban re-signed and Lolley back to fitness and maybe a player like Bowler (t around £3m) we will have good attacking options.

In Midfield we need to replace Zinc and Garner but with money to buy good players or offer good money for loanees we have to rely on Murphy and the back room team to address that.

Worrall won't necessarily be snapped up, Brentford came in and then changed their minds and there wasn't a long queue behind them plus he is 25 now, so maybe we are his level. As ever we need a left back but our luck with that position must surely change.

So there a slightly more optimistic analysis. Even more optimistic is that all this is fantasy as we will be promoted!

Hopefully this allows us to get on a more virtuous circle upwards, it is a big opportunity to make progress in the way that Brentford achieved.

I love this time of the year. You guys planning the assault on the Premier League, either this year or next.

Whilst I'm planning the seed and planting lists for the allotment.

I'd be hopeless at buying players, much better at me plants.

I liked what you posted the first time Wred, but anyway, your optimism is appreciated.

Fuckingell, gloomy or what!

I may as well stop putting some of my pension aside towards renewing my season-card.

Thankfully, I have a little more faith in the owner, the CEO, the head-coach and the recruitment team than you clearly do mate.

Like I said the other week, the money we get from the sales of Johnson and Worrall (should they happen) could fund moves for Matt Grimes, Jon Swift, Jed Wallace and Keinan Davis. Every cloud and all that.

If Forest are in any way sensible then the approach after promotion should be to be very cautious with spending, assume relegation and thus build a side capable of getting promoted again at the first ask, using that premier League season to gel. Them all together and get those who are young some serious experience against the best players.

If we stay up then great, but if we go down at least we're ready to challenge right away and if worse case scenario that falls apart too, then at least theres still a tonne of money left that can be deployed over the next few seasons of another rebuild is needed.

Completely agree and I'd go so far as to say that the last 15 years this has been the only modus operandi that's been shown to work. Given our 2 decades out of the top flight I'm afraid we are going to have to look to turn ourselves into a Norwich first before we worry about being another Aston Villa. Even though that's not glamorous its clearly the sensible way and if Coops with all his nous and ability can't see that and throws a strop then theres something wrong. As much as I love him I've no time anymore for managers that are prepared to pull the house down and leave the club in smoking ruins financially ahead of personal short term ambition. There have been too many of those in the last 10 years....

Being cautious if we get promoted has merit, even though Forest MO after promotion has traditionally been to smash it.

Will the owners take the relegation hit without sacking the manager though? That would be my concern.

Err? Please explain..
Not overspending after getting promoted, basically accepting relegation and being better off by millions of pounds and go again from a stronger base (as one of the parachute clubs). You could say that's the model Norwich have followed. Would Marinakis keep Cooper for the following season in the championship?

We (and therefore you) have sent a scout to Copa Libertadores U20, the biggest exhibition of South American young talent.

I can’t think of a single manager, with the exception of Warburton maybe, who has used his time with us as a launch pad for bigger and better things, so not sure if any have used us for personal gain. However a few have been completely useless and indeed left a smouldering mess when they left. But let’s forget all the crap we’ve put up with and finally see the progress we are making and all jump aboard the Cooperman train and enjoy the ride

I meant Warburton is the only one who is currently in a better/equal place than he was when he left all the rest have disappeared

I have an allotment too. Early potatoes are chitted and ready to plant in St Patrick's Day. Brexit has actually made getting plants and seeds a lot more difficult here. I've chili's started on the heated propagator that I saved from the plant last year, Scots Bonnets. Got to love the Spring.

Yes, got the spuds on the go, but I'm holding back a bit on the propagation this year. We had a very odd April last year with very frosty nights for most of the month and quite decent sunny days. It messed up my nematodes for the slugs and played hell with the early plantings.

Had to look up St Patrick's day date and that looks a good marker, I shall make a note.

Your chilis are too hot for me, jalapenos for the pizza are my choice.

We're short in wide positions so I can see why we kept him, but I think we'll want an upgrade next year.

I like Mighten don't get me wrong, but still think he's a couple of years away from the level Forest are currently playing at.

He’s still very young but overall he hasn’t impressed. He has pace and reasonable skills but he just hasn’t seemed to have worked out how to get outside and beyond the fullback on a consistent basis. I’d be quite happy to see him trying and loosing the ball in the tackle most of the time but creating 2 or 3 clean breaks behind the defenders each half. I honestly don’t know what his crossings like because we hardly see it.
What happens currently is he cuts inside most of the time and that’s what defenders want.
As I say he’s very young so there’s still time but he’s got a very long way to go for me and it would be very wise for him to develop an additional way of playing so he can fit into other systems where needed or his chances will be limited.

Not sure how much use it'll be for us now we're Brexited. Spanish and Italian passports don't get you to far any more.

The market might actually be more open to us now as a result of the Brexit changes, depending on how many caps said players have and who they play for. Ojeda being an example of a signing that might have been difficult to make under the previous rules.

Yes, but you do not need Spanish or Italian passports post Brexit, and, judging by Ojeda, you're still very much interested in the Latin American markets

Agree that Mighten goes inside too often. IMO his first run with the ball should be to get to the outside hopefully beat the full back and get a cross in. Then when he gets the ball the defence doesn't know whether he is going in or outside. He tends to cut in and run into traffic every time

The America's are definitely easier for us to get players post-Brexit.

That is why we seem to be exploring it. You don't have to have senior caps, U23 caps are pretty much as valuable with the WP system.

Infact we probably have an advantage ahead of most European countries now as we can bypass European passports.

I definitely expect us to be looking at the Americas and other markets further abroad going forwards. I'm excited to see what our recruitment team come up with, a lot of talented gems to be unearthed out there (including Ojeda, who I like the look of and reckon will be a good player for us).

To be fair the center mids have been in good form. Wonder if he steps in for Garner?

I think that's probably the plan for next year, but he'll need more minutes than he's had so far if he's to ready to start next season.
