I think he would work better in the current team.
I think he is a very clever player who can 'keep the ball moving' - with our current front 4 - I think we would see a very different player.
 
I don't buy the not suited to the Prem stuff, he put in some good performances and was always underrated. I think it was more of a style thing, the way we played never suited him.

Bologna & Atalanta play completely different. Atalanta in particular, one of the most well coached teams in Europe with really high intensity and man to man marking. That's PL bread and butter. Switzerland play similar. It was the polar opposite of the way we played last season.

We were too direct and static and he could never impact games in the way he does elsewhere. He's got one of the best pass completion rates this season in Serie A, here it was terrible. An average of about 65 passes per game during his years in Serie A, here it was 34 per game. That's a conflict in style. You could argue he needs to be in a good system to be a good player but I do not subscribe to the notion he is or ever was a bad player/not up to Prem standards.
 
Wherever this guy plays Id expect good pass completion stats, assuming he passes like he did here, with absolutely no invention or forward momentum.

Folks will want to spin it according to how they felt about him at the time, but ultimately I saw a player who was incredibly slow of thought & execution, he took the game down to walking pace, which Im pretty sure is the MO of the Italian League he's apparently smashing. He stood off tackles, ran straight lines & generally contributed nothing, the polar opposite of proactive,

Im chuffed for Bologna, but he was garbage here, utter garbage, yet another below average contributor in the middle of the park.
 
He was never going to work here, he just didn't have the speed or the mobility to work in a team that was designed to not have the ball. Same goes for Shelvey and when they were both playing together it was like watching a game on 0.5x speed.

Whether it's a fault of the club's recruitment or Cooper who knows, but you don't buy a ball-player for a team that doesn't have the ball and then wonder why he's no good.
