What an absolute embarrassment of riches we have right now. So, not only have we somehow got players like Lascelles and Hobbs not getting in the team, we've got Barcelona's former youth captain and tis Laing guy behind them too.

Can we play 8-1-1?
Isn't that the way Chelsea play?

To return to the topic, a couple of Saddies I occasionally speak to who use my local are very impressed with him.

From what one of them was saying we can expect a "cheeky bid" any time soon. Or, in other words, a loan request for the remainder of the season without having to contribute to his wages.

He was a massive prospect when he was young and I think that regular 1st team football at County will do him the world of good, I'd leave him there until Jan with a recall clause.

In terms of giving him regular football that's probably not a bad idea. The problem is that the Sadpies are evidently disagreeable to even contributing anything towards loanees' wages, let alone actually paying a loan fee. Ray Trew's standpoint is that they're doing parent clubs a favour by providing game time.

They cut short a loan last week and sent a young player (Reece?) back to Birmingham rather than provide him with treatment after he suffered an injury playing for them.

I despise Ray Trew and I think that he is a cancer on the game who will happily see County in non league as long as he can keep his more lucrative Lincoln City ladies team in the Premier league.

But, we need to have a good relationship with a local club to blood our youngsters and build their experience whilst being able to monitor their progress.

I hate helping Trew and would set up a deal meaning we get a contribution to wages based on appearances.

Should we cut our noses off to spite our faces?

The regular game-time argument is a compelling one Wes, but I'd rather our young players went to clubs that had an appreciation of duty of care for them, especially if that club is getting the use of that player virtually for free.

It highlights the gulf in integrity between us and the Saddies. They casually dump a young player who unfortunately gets injured under their watch, whereas we offer full medical and rehab facilities to a player who incurs an injury whilst only on trial with us.

To be fair when a player gets injured on loan they do often go back to their parent club. I think we did it with Vaughan and one of his many injuries

I can't argue with that, ethical behaviour is not exactly one of their strengths.
I think that Shaun Derry is a decent bloke to be working with our youth though, I think we need to formalise a relationship if they are getting players for free and without responsibility, a feeder club deal would go down well with their fans.

Ray Trew is terrible, and his lack of gratitude or respect for others clubs doing County a favour by loaning them players to keep them in the league yet again is a long standing trait.

Glad our players are getting game time, but County should be contributing to their wages if they do want to take our players on loan.

Good move for him. Could see him ending up there more long-term.

Trew clearly has no class, but ultimately, we can use Notts Co to our own benefit. We can send younger lads there to get fit, experience and measure how they cope with regular competitive football. Whilst it's also easy to keep an eye on them, they don't have to move anywhere and can still train with us at times if we desire.

We wont give them anyone we need, so whilst it benefits them, it's more of a benefit to us.
