January 2025 Transfer Window

Also it isn't really a lot of money relative to what you have if you keep him. We paid 15-18m for him, so 30m is 12-15m profit, if which perhaps 2-3m might go to united as sell on. Disrupting the dressing room and manager that late in the window? I'd have rather not taken Almiron on but I think that was a financial requirement for Newcastle.

We'll never know the potential additional payment clauses either. Perhaps this was really 30m plus an extra 19m from the vlachodimos transfer.

I know most of you half-expect and half-wish for a crazy transfer window, but I'm not sure bringing in many players, or bringing in some crazily expensive star would improve your chances of pushing for a European ticket. I can think of no position where you're desperately in need of players, in several positions (especially in midfield) there will be potential starters coming back from injury, there are still a couple of players who have not had the playing time they most probably deserve (Sosa, Jota), and, all in all, the disruption from new recruits may prove detrimental.

OK, a striker might be handy, perhaps another winger or MGW type of player if he's good enough, or some Brazilian youngster, but, other than that I think extending Aina's and Wood's contract would be money better spent than the gazillion of money clubs usually ask for their star players in January.

I still think we need another right winger that could maybe fill in up top, nothing else

I know it's easy to sit on what you have got but we will be in a great position to attract a next level of signing, we shouldn't sit on our hands because we are happy, if something comes up we should pounce

Totally agree GBG.
Get Aina & Wood signed up
Send JWP back - as long as Danilo & Sangare can prove their fitness
A couple of young players for the future - CF, LB & maybe another winger, which would give us the flexibility to move Jota inside.
I can't see why we would gamble big money on anyone - it is not necessary and you never get value for money in this window

I agree with both views really. We certainly don't want to be spending money needlessly but that's recruitment and Nuno's bag to identify and decide if the squad can be improved upon.
One thing I've learnt from being back in the PL is that you can't stand still or it will cost you your place in the League. Constant improvement is always required.
Again - I fully agree - that's why if possible we should look to the future - it also adds a bit of freshness and competition to the current squad

Personally I don't think you should stop trying to improve the team if the opportunity comes up.

Obviously some positions are more urgent than others but we've seen in this league that if you're not constantly moving forwards then soon enough you'll be going backwards.

I would focus on one main addition. A winger with pace who can score. That's asking a lot but we clearly have money available and could just focus on bringing that one in.

if we can get at least 6pts in December it is very possible that we can get more. 28pts plus at halfway stage.
Marinakis will likely want the recruitment team to identify players which have real quality.
I think cut JWP loan short with Danilo and Sangare coming back to fitness early next year or maybe for Danilo this month.
Gives us a spot for a loan.

Ideally
A Striker
A Younger Left Back seems to be on the agenda

Outs
Toffolo
Omobamidele
JWP
Moreria - loan.

New signings and continuous improvement is the lifeblood.

In all seriousness, regarding more Brazilians from our recent experience, these young Brazilian players we've signed come across as humble and dedicated pros. Positive vibes.

I don't really know how good Igor Jesus really is, stats aren't amazing, but you don't get in the Brazil national side unless you're a player. The knock on effect of signing a Brazilian full international could be to keep Murillo for another season or two of we're really hoping to push on.

Up top has to be the priority. Anything happens to Wood and we're virtually relying on Awoniyi for every minute of play

Just seen a article from football insider i know its not very reliable, But they say we are looking at Evan Ferguson on a permanent deal in Jan, If true id defiantly throw 30M at Brighton to see what they say with them spending alot in the summer and only paying peanuts for Ferguson from Ireland it might be enough to get them to sell
Now that is a gamble - came in with a bang and not a lot since.
Brighton are a good team - but he is 3rd choice there behind Pedro & Welback. I get that he is behind Pedro (I would definitely spend big on him). But there is something not quite right if they would rather keep a 35 year old than a 'hot young prospect'

Absolutely, would be all over that

he can continue doing the role he has at Brighton here but would walk into Wood’s role when he goes off the ball/gets injured

He’s also a very similar profile & a great finisher, it would be great succession planning

Yeah i know what your saying about Welbeck but he could just suit the system better than Ferguson does, However Ferguson would fit our system like a glove big strong can hold the ball up and bring the midfield into play good finisher as well he is like Woody but only 20
