François Modesto - Technical Director

According to a Greek reporter, Modesto proposed to us three years ago a 16-year-old striker, but his club asked for what was then considered an exorbitant price for such a young player.

His name was Erling Haaland...

Narrow escape for Alf jnr, and the rest of us. He'd have only have turned up at Forest for a month mid bleak winter, scored 1 in 8 under two different managers and for next seven years we'd all have taken turns to debate whether Tyler Walker might have scored more with forum Alf.

An especially good spot because he wasn't the physical beast he is now (most of the time you assume youngsters that size just bully themselves into senior football).

He was below 6'0 when he made his first team debut then he had a massive growth spurt and grew into the beast he is now.

Interesting read about a football app changing transfer dealings and Modesto has been busy : https://www.to10.gr/podosfero/superleague/769797/apokalypsi-o-olybiakos-sto-transferroom/
That is interesting. Of note was one deal being comcluded from start to finish in 112 seconds.

Hopefully this could also start to be the demise of agents touting players around and unsettling them. If players know their availability is instantly visible to other clubs then the agent shithousery isn't required any longer to find clubs for them.

Modesto has been in Poland, checking out two 21-year olds (theoretically for us, but one never knows...): Przemyslaw Placheta, winger, a starter for Slask Wroclaw, and Patryk Klimala, a starter for Jagellonia (6 goals, 3 assists this season).

Our connection in Poland is Michal Zewlakow, a former player of ours and now technical director working in Poland.

I fully expect those two names to be revealed as a Nottingham Post-online exclusive before the end of the day.........courtesy of "Greek sources"!

The interesting thing on these outings are if we make the big league and a real gem is uncovered. Where does the gem go?

To the mothership in Greece to keep that ticking over or the money spinner in the premier league where hes on show to the world on a weekly basis.

That's easy I guess. Young talent can be cheap, or it can be fairly expensive. We've often missed the opportunity of bying excellent talent because in the context of Greek football it is too risky to spend 1 or 2m on a talented 18-year-old, for example.

Premier money is on a totally different scale. So I guess as far as gems are concerned, the cheap ones will be coming our way and the more promising and thus expensive ones your way.

GBG, how would you say wages at Oly compare to those we pay at Forest?

Judging by some of the figures I've seen in here, our wages are much lower than yours. (The figures I'm about to talk about exclude bonuses and taxes, almost always paid for by the club and not by the player in our deals.) No one earns more than 1.5m euros per year at the moment; wages tend to be between 200,000 euros and 1m (most young players earn less); there is a recent tendency to increase bonuses and lower wages. And bear in mind that our wages are the highest in Greece, with the possible exception of PAOK, who offer comparable wages.

Sounds like Bryn. New Dens not so much.

Does PAOK, by any chance, have any potential Forest transfer targets amongst its ranks?

They have a number of good players, but EM wouldn't buy from PAOK and PAOK wouldn't sell to EM. Modesto's visit is a social one.
