More chance of Massey Ferguson. I think we go down the Brazilian (or similar) route for a striker.

If Brighton deem him surplus to requirements - given their expertise in player development & recruitment, then it's fair to say there's a damn good reason for that.

Big no from me.

Delap will go back to city for 20m and they'll either loan or sell on right away. Easy money as his value is already above the buyback.
I was under the impression (I’m probably wrong) that city had already said they would not be activating buy back on Delap.

Yeah i agree with this, Tony Bloom is not selling Ferguson for 40mil unless he knows that his injury problems are long term. At 100% fitness Ferguson is a potential that ranks with anyone in the league, but that break out season is over a long year ago now and the magic he demonstrated that season is only showing glimmers because of his injuries/recovery cycles since. To be fair to the lad though he's got serious ready cooked competition at Brighton with Joao Pedro, Welbeck and Rutter.

They don't get everything right. Let's not forget they sold Gyokeres for £1m to Coventry.

They get a lot more right than wrong. They are one of those clubs where a player peaks before they leave them but not after they have made a lot selling them.

They have sold a lot of decent players but typically not done so well at their new clubs.

Ferguson's still quite young but a lot of promising players at that level can be like that because they're physically ahead of other teens. Wayne Rooney at Everton I think scored that goal at sixteen and actually he was an exception because he had a successful career after that but there have been plenty others who looked good at that age or a bit older and never really lived up to it. Rooney was a physically dominant teen though so that point still stands. So was Brereton, who someone else has already mentioned.

We had another lad I think who came through the academy about the same time as Tyler who looked good at that age but never really hit on from it, a bit more of a physical forward from recollection than Tyler is. And I do wonder how high Dale Taylor can go, despite him playing for NI as a teenager, given he has been loaned out a bit but never seemed to hit much form when he has.

I'd guess with Ferguson as well, think he's been injured so maybe they know something on that front?

I'm not sold on Ferguson at all, injuries a worry at this stage and if he's not pushing on with Brighton then I think he's one of those that has a purple patch but never quite kicks on - I posted this on the transfer thread but if we're looking for some big up front the smart choice would be to try and hi-jack loan with option to buy of Strand Larson at Wolves - big lad but moves really well and scored 6 for them already - its a £30 million deal.

Delap is a better player, obviously we won't get him in Jan (if at all). Ferguson is interesting but injuries might have scuppered it for me. We do need a forward though.

Too big a risk at the money Brighton will want.

Unless there is a try before you buy type clause, loan with option at a minimum fee etc.

Watching him play, just do not see a permiership player. Maybe ok at Championship but nothing I have seen makes me think he can be good enough for us. Must be better players we can go for

Could see this being on our list of latter options if we can’t secure our primary targets. Get him on loan late in the window if we get desperate for another body up top.

A loan with an option to buy would work with this one.

I'm not sure spending £35-45m on him straight up, or with an easy to trigger obligation is the best idea.

He is relatively unproven and Brighton do not need to sell, so why would they if they don't think he'll make it there?

I watched him against Leicester and again yesterday when he came on against Palace. He looks very short of confidence at the moment, maybe a change will do him good.
I just don't think he'll be the one we go for.

People complain about Awoniyi looking like he is ready for the knackers yard. Ferguson moved about as well as I do against Palace.

I wonder if there is a scenario in which we make a long-term purchase in January, knowing that the (as yet unknown) player will take time to get up to speed in the Premier League, but also loan in Ferguson (this would rely on us returning Ward-Prowse to West Ham, so dependent on the fitness of Danilo and/or Sangare before we commit?) as an option who already knows the league.

The risk is that Ferguson needs as much time as Awoniyi to be at full fitness, and that all we do is help a rival's player to gain full fitness before next season. The gain is that we get to look at a player who could be a long-term solution for us, and bed in a full signing before next season, the decision whether to buy or not rests on where we finish and how much football we are playing next season.

He’s still really young, only just turned 20. At that age they all develop differently. Sometimes they have bumps in the road. He’s got loads of very good attributes and has shown he has the ability, it is all about the consistency.

The issue here is if a club like Brighton are looking to dump him then is there something underlying. Also you pay a premium because he is in the PL and we are a rival club. Could probably get a similar player for half the price in another market.

Why would Ferguson leave Brighton because he doesn't want to sit on the bench come to Forest so he can sit on the bench?

Funny you mention Awoniyi because his and Fergusons stats are eerily similar (Premier League only).

Awoniyi 58 games, 16 goals, 4 assists, 2,655 minutes played.
Ferguson 58 games, 13 goals, 2 assists, 2.552 minutes played.

Granted Ferguson is much younger but he was also playing in a side which was much more attacking and less reliant on him to score. Both have had their injury issues over the last 18 months.

Not really seeing the value of this one as a loan signing unless there is an option to buy. Could be a good long-term replacement for Wood but is unlikely to play much here unless Wood gets injured so just a loan wouldn't make much sense.
