Embargo lifted in January?

You think trusting a poor manager with more money is sensible for a business to do? I hope you are part of a minority.

I remember the last time we gave a poor manager more time and money to spend after demonstrating his really poor ability in that role.. Gary Megson I think his name was.

We have a good enough squad at the moment to be pushing for promotion without Britt and without Cohen and without needing to sign anyone. Freedman just isn't a good manager, he doesn't have the abilities to take this team up, and I'd be very surprised if he's still here when our embargo is lifted whenever that may be.

I'll say this, if we are out of embargo in January, and if Fawaz is thinking of sacking Dougie, then he needs to make his mind up now, because January isn't far away, and if Fawaz hired a new manager I'd want the new guy to have time to look at the squad (including youth players) properly before he went spending.

I wouldn't want us to exit embargo to just go and promptly blow our wad on something we've got already.

In that regard, if we are out of embargo in January, it's stick or twist time now.

Exactly. And the way dougie has recruited I feel IF he's still here, he'll buy well. GARY GARDNER also, we could buy him. Holy shit, I just remembered him lol.

Spending whoever the manager is in January is really not going to be the answer. I mean numbers look unrealistic to be out of embargo as it is, the timing of the announcement whilst everything is so bad, from a journalist speaks volumes for me too! But if it's going to be the case it's going to be by tight margins, 1 permanent signing with a fee and odds on we'd be straight back out the limits!

Get someone in say they have what they have and do what they can. Tide us over, come out of embargo in the summer if we can (again I don't think that will happen) and review in the summer. Can even choose to go all out in the window at high risk if they wish. You have the right man and sign the right players it's a perfectly sensible strategy if you get it right. Just high risk.

Anything's better than this though!

How do you know the self confessed "just a coach" brought the players? Might have been the departed head of recruitment, hunter.

Hope he is gone by January unless some miracle happens and we start winning. Dougie could be terrible with money,he signs some very good players but ruins it by signing shit like Trotter and Moxey.
I dont know what Dougie has done not to get sacked, no other manager got this long being this shit. Maybe Fawaz is starting to lose faith with Forest.

I can just foresee him leaving us with square pegs for round holes like trotter and that jukebox..... Keep the cheque book in your pocket fazza... Use it to tempt the next bloke

Seconded. Dougie needs to show he can do something with what he's already bought here before acquiring more.

It's not that he's bought in bad players, it's that he's bought in some which don't offer any better than what we've already got, and only keep youth out the side.

Lets see how he does in Dec, and with Cohen in training with the lads again.

Do we trust Dougie to spend well in the transfer window?

Because on the one hand, we say he's bought in some good players, but then we say we shouldnt expect more from them than being not very good because they were cheap.

So are they actually good signings if we don't expect them to make a good impact?

They are all decent players of course and we should be doing much better with them in the squad. Hopefully Dougie will get the side picking up results, then bring in decent signings in January to add to the squad.

My worry is he will have to bring in players to keep us up, because he's mired us in a relegation battle, rather than bringing in players who will add to the squad to take us forward in the long term

Too late the tide has turned apparently. It is now acceptable to be anti-Dougie. Exactly one week ago you'd have loads of likes and support for saying that.

He was brought in to work under difficult financial constraints. If we are free of the shackles of FFP, Fazza will get rid and bring somebody else in to blow his load.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter whether we are willing to give Dougie (Or any other manager for that matter) time. Fawaz has a suicidal demand for instant success that far exceeds any one else's.

I think that speaks volumes in itself though.

We've acquired under admittedly tough circumstances some pretty good footballers. They add to a squad of what already was a set of very good footballers. Yet put 11 on them on a field and give them a ball we can recognise their talent but they can't form an effective side.

Isn't it the managers job to make that bit happen?

BaconSaver

Viv Anderson
Bamford in on loan on in Jan and Gardner on a perm and then a winger too...

De Vries

Lichaj, Mancienne, Hobbs, Pinillos
Gardner
Cohen, Vaughan
Reid
Bamford, Assombalonga

Subs: Evtimov, Mills, Lansbury, Ebecilio, Osborn, Mendes, Oliveira

Then they all get injured and we get embargoed again.

That's a bang on post. For all the good purchases he's made in terms of quality/value, not bringing in someone who can pitch in with a few goals seems quite an oversight.

If you can't get at least a point against 10 men when you've just scored and have 15 min left, then you're gonna come in for stick.

I've still not seen many, if any, calling for Dougie gone. The past 2 seasons gave seen many more call for managers FAR higher up the table sacked at this time though.

Maybe the best way of giving Dougie a chance is to accept those managers shouldn't have been sacked in the first place?

Whilst 12th and 7th remain sackable positions, Dougie is only gonna come in for stick whilst he remains miles away from that.

My worry is I think given the right job on the pitch we do have a couple of people who can contribute with goals that have been brought in.

I still think if we play Oliveria on the shoulder and give him through balls to run on to he'll chip in with a fair few more. He's not the strongest yet we play the ball in high and long to him on his own against a centre half, he can hold the ball OK but in areas of the pitch where he can't do much with it and again isolated.

Too many times we've seen that lad 30 yards out pick the ball up and have to skill his way through a backline for us to progress any further. We can't say he's not a goalscorer when that's the job he's got. Especially when you consider he looks IMO pretty dangerous in and around the area, facing the goal.
