Eddie Nketiah

First Team Squad
Unless Palace are selling Mateta is Eddie a starter there? And they have Odsonne Edouard too. This is clearly about staying in London or fearing a relegation battle with Forest.
Or we just weren’t that into him? We don’t know who’s putting the brakes on and for what reason

While I agree to some extent, if I was Nketiah and seeing the Romano/Ornestein tweets about us bidding for Gimenez at the same time, I’d be asking how much do they actually want me? Why should I leave my family and friends for a club that isn’t 100% all in on me?
Yeah, was thinking this myself. We may have shot ourselves in the foot on both fronts with the brinkmanship.

Forest can sell it as "We're 100% in on a new striker to lead our line, we're just hedging our bets in case you decide against us."

If Nketiah rejects us it won't be because we were also in for Giminez, it'll be a mixture of us not meeting his wage demands and other London clubs, who from an outsiders POV appear less of a relegation threat, being interested. That's football.

For whatever reason this looks like it’s off and he’s Palace-bound. I’ve never seen anything from him saying he was on his way to Forest. Can understand him wanting to stay in London really and go to a more “established” Prem team, to the uneducated. For the price could’ve been a good buy or a waste. I know a lot of sub appearances but around a 1 goal in 5 appearances isn’t greats. Not like we’re missing out on >20 a season striker. Not too bothered so long as we get someone in.

Sauce salad?
I've never been particularly comfortable with the money on this one, though it will be interesting to see how he does at Palace. Terribly I hope.

I bet he'll score 15 for Palace this season.

I certainly get your point, but that goes with the territory in an info-obsessed digital age, whereby clubs generally have fallback options that tend to get picked up by the media.
While I agree, clubs can keep things under wraps if they want to. We have seen that with plenty of Forest's deals this summer where they have been leaked and signed in a matter of a few days.
I don't understand this logic. If leaving his family and friends is an issue for him how would Forest "wanting him" or otherwise change any of that?

Also, I know players often say after they've signed that "it was clear the club wanted me" etc etc but that's just fluff for the media and the fans

Players don't sign for a club based on how much said club "wants" them; as a reason to join a club I'd imagine that's approaching the bottom of the list

I love the romantic notion that a club has their one solitary target and go all-in on them without pursuing anyone else but the reality is the club will have irons in many fires when recruiting for any position, and that's as it should be
Sorry mate but I completely disagree. I don't think it is a romantic notion about being wanted by someone. Personally in my career I have been headhunted a couple of times and it has been a massively sway over me how much a company has wanted me. Yes there is a pecking order to it, such as money and the role but how hard they are pursuing me is certainly up there. I had one business tell me they have been wanting me on board for years while I knew they were telling someone I knew the exact same thing.

With regarding the family and friends point, it ties in with my point above. I think people are willing to move away from family and friends if they believe in the 'project' and they feel wanted. Again if I was Nketiah this past week and I had Forest asking me to lower wage demands and add certain clauses then seeing them bid for other strikers I'd be doubting the move too. Footballers are egotistical people by nature, they want the red carpet rolled out for them and being wanted, I think Forest have played a risky game and ended up losing on both accounts.

Interesting one - wouldn't like to say. I didn't have him as coming to us and bagging 15 - 10 perhaps but probably more like 6 or 7.
During the annual spring hot-streak where Palace suddenly win 4 or 5 on the spin and steer clear of relegation trouble. Everyone says what an incredible signing he's been despite doing nothing of note prior to that point.

Nottingham's dirty secret
He'll be fantastic for Palace this season & would have been for us.

Still a bit gutted about this one to be honest.

Wonder if Forest will poke around Arnaud Kalimuendo at Stade Rennais - younger, shorter but seemingly more powerful version.

If we offered the same as Palace I can see how they are more attractive to Nketiah. However he'll be regretting that short-sighted view when we finish above them.

Not on my score-card unfortunately. The reason why the football media always mention us as down the pecking order is because Forest have no fire power.
If it wasn't there before, where is this plethora of goals to push us above the likes of Palace and Fulham going to come from?
It doesn't compute.
