Dane Murphy - ex-CEO

I've got to say that despite me wanting to keep going as it is at the moment, if anyone has to go then I'm really not bothered if it's Murphy.

I've read all about him, I've listened to him, and he seems like a decent bloke, but fine, he's gone.

By the way, let's not do what the silly mags did and confuse Charnley as being a fool just because he was linked to Ashley. He can run a tight ship.

Looks like he's leaving and we are getting Mr Boot Licker Lee Charnley as CEO. What a downgrade.
What's the CEO's job? Just wondering, 'cos I don't really know what a football club CEO is supposed to do. I'd assume they over see, from a very high level, everything.

Well, we're shit commercially, cannot get a sponsor and the catering is still rubbish (apparently).

Maybe Marinakis is laying the blame for some of that on Murphy's door?

We know that Murphy bought into moneyball, do we know much else?

There’s a big question how moneyball would work for us. Whose tactical plan is it, Cooper or Murphy? We then are supposed to recruit players who fit that plan, but the owners meddle and panic buy (after the Newcastle defeat barring their statement signing). The result is a total lack of cohesion. If the Murphy plan didn’t to involve a lot of the purchases we now have, realistically he is surplus.

So Dane might be on the way out?

He was the next big thing when he arrived and, apparently, the reason (with Coops) that we were promoted. Now he's going with hardly any fanfare.

Oh, well, back to planning just where I'm going to put the new telly.

At Forest the job of the CEO is to do what the owner tells him to do, give the credit to the owners son if it looks like it's gone right and take the shit when it goes wrong.

Losing his job is the ultimate in shit taking.

We had a plan. It worked spectacularly well for 10 months and we ditched it at the first sign of difficulty.

We're an utter shambles of a club owned by a Greek Fawaz who's only elevated above Fawaz because he pays the bills on time.

If he's sacked its literally baffling.

Weve done the recruitment, weve signed the players, how can it now be Danes fault because of results?

This club is so unstable its untrue.

Its a bit like sacking a bloke in a sweet factory because someone choked on a sweet he packed.

Due to the sheer number of players required, we couldn't have bought proven premier league quality across the board so 150m for 20 odd is a decent effort. 150m doesn't buy you 10th place, it gives you a squad which is likely to give you a fighting chance of avoiding relegation.

This league is a tough gig, and you get found out pretty quickly. Playing moneyball at this level (I.e. experience and talent) isn't working at the moment and would be easier at the championship level.

Looking like for the Jan window, recruitment will be taking a different approach with Cooper if results pick up till then or with another manager if they don't.

Murphy Report Card:

Season 21/22
Brought in a fresh modern style of playing and players to execute that style, equipped to win games and win over fans in the Championship. Once he realised Hughton couldn't execute his plan brought in Cooper who executed it brilliantly. Rating A+

Off the pitch - Ticketing, Sponsorship, Ground refurb, Catering (see above posts) D -

Season 22/23

Fails to agree realistic goal with owner of Survival. And therefore, failed to adapt style of play to Premier League - spends money on upgrades for previous plan - leaving recruitment short on PL class defenders and hard working midfielders who press, pass and move at speed. Rating D ( Would be E but had little time to adap and clearlytried hard)

So, in comes a new Sporting Director.( Presumably Charnley will pick up the off field logistics.) New Sporting Director with a goal of Survival - at least that's clear and agreed. What will be his philosophy? Watford did have a philosophy - sufficiently strong to have multiple coaches to execute the plan.

According to the Sun (yes i know) , we are/were sounding out Gerhard Struber - guy who Murphy hired to propel Barnsley into the play offs - must have been Murphy's last roll of the dice. Desperate. Very sad.

To be fair if one of Murphy and Cooper has to go then I'd rather it were Dane (although I'd much prefer both stay).

The off-the-pitch stuff isn't exactly great at the moment is it? Still no shirt sponsor. Hardly any shirts in stock and those that are are of shite quality. Catering and general facilities are as bad as ever. Forest TV is total garbage. All these gold, silver, bronze, pearl, iron, wood memberships and our crap ticketing system means loyal fans still can't get tickets.

Not being funny but if Murphy is ultimately responsible for these things then I can see why his position is being questioned.

Struber was below mediocre for Barnsley. Narrowly avoided relegation in his first season.

It was only when Valerien Ismael came in that Barnsley started playing impressive football, shot up the table, and finished in the playoffs.

I really do wonder whether this is a classic case of the Peter Principle in action - i.e. being promoted to a level where you become incompetent.

Murphy has a history of doing moneyball well but he even said it himself in a very long podcast that he was a bit shocked to be where he is now.

Chief Execs of premier league clubs should not have an active role in recruiting, other than signing off deals if needed. Maybe Murphy is more of a Sporting Director?

I don’t know, but it’s highly possible.

appreciate propel doing a lot of heavy lifting. Main point - it's a desperate call.
