Champion's League??

Obviously thrilled with tonight's result, puts us in a strong position but it's far from done yet. Still six games to go, for me we need to win three of them. It could all change if Villa beat us on Saturday and knock some confidence out of us, or if we get a few injuries. Most of our backups are miles off our first teamers, as was evident in the second half tonight.

Said since January that CL for us depends on keeping Isak, Tonali, Joelinton and Bruno fit. That is still the case IMO.

Even if (when :)) we beat u on Sat I expect u will finish 3rd. It is squeaky bum time for the rest of us then

Interestingly, or not, tonight's result shows Opta giving Newcastle a *whole extra point* in their end of season prediction. It's almost as if the Supercomputer doesn't know much more than any of us ..?

Personally, I enjoy the fact that you can both post here - with the associated "banter" - in a respectful environment. Would, imho, be magic if you could both somehow contrive to dump City and Chelsea out of the CL places and join us there.

That's the effin dream. Forest, Newcastle and Villa in the CL ahead of City, Chelsea, Man Utd and Spurs. That would just be so bloody amazing. We were all in the Championship about 6 years ago :)

Yeah, but football only started in the 90's, or, if you're Spurs, never, really ...

I really don't like Spurs, I just love that Spurs sacked Nuno after about a dozen games and Levy has to look on as u guys stay in CL places in the league since last Dec, It must make him sick that he paid Nuno off to leave the club and paid money to bring Jason Donovan in as manager

Let's not shit the bed. We're likely to be in some form of European competition which most would have thought unlikely at the start of the season.

In the meantime, we can continue to improve the first team and more importantly the squad (as I'm sure we can all say the likes of Toffolo probably aren't good enough any more) to keep doing the same.

Tbh, I've lived in London for a long time and one of my best mates is a Spurs fan - through no fault of his own - and he is a proper gent. And all the Arsenal fans I've known have been sound - so I'm conflicted, though the '91 Cup Final is a struggle as far is Spurs is concerned. But, bottom line, they're a f*cking glory club, banging on about what the year ends in, or some bullsh!t, and I couldn't give a f*ck. They should be in League 1 while Nuno lifts the CL. Them and Chelsea: w*nkers.

Problem is we're not playing very well and I can only see 1 win in our last 6 games. Wouldn't be surprised if we finish 7th.

When we were in the Championship and had Bruce as manager, Levy offered us about 15m plus a half pack of Toffos for Grealish. We were weak, staring administration in the face and he tried to rip us off. Grealish was worth at least 50m at the time. I worked in London and have some good friends who are Spurs fans but Levy is a total woman's front bottom

Didn’t you tell Levy 30m would do it and they offered half?

yep, think we looked for somewhere between 25m and 30m but we were on the verge of administration and he tried to take advantage, The club was sold, rich owners came in and told Levy to eff off. Never forgive him for that

Fair play. Funny how most football fans seem to think Levy is a bit of a c***? Levy aside, look how far you've come!! Great stuff.

I think it's been understandable but really easy to over react, not just to losing the last two games but also, the improvement of our league rivals.

I think it's important right now to remember a few things.
  • We have dropped to 4th, but we have been 3rd in the league since December 30th.
  • CL qualification is absolutely still in our hands, we're not reliant on anyone else to do us a favour.
  • We've unfortunately had injuries to Aina and Wood, with Elanga having problems all at once, which has disrupted our rhythm but Wood/Elanga are back, and I'm sure Aina isn't that much further away.
  • In terms of the past couple games, Villa were all over us first half but I think it's fair to say we reciprocated in that second half. Look what they went and did to PSG the other night. As for Everton, it was a shit performance but Everton have made themselves really difficult to beat. Liverpool couldn't do it and Arsenal couldn't either since Moyes came in.
  • We've had positive results against every single team we've left to play this season, so while it's not a foregone conclusion we will win these games, we've got it in us to do so.
  • Every time we've had a bad run of results, we've actually bounced back and been difficult to beat. We've just come off of a six-game unbeaten run.
  • Before Everton, we actually had not lost at home in the league since November.
  • Yes, we've got an FA Cup Semi to play but so have City and so have Villa. Chelsea have Conference games to play too.
  • If we'd beat Villa and Everton, we'd be level on points with Arsenal and fighting for second. It's going to be fine margins up there.
In 2023/2024 at this stage of the season, we were 17th, level on points with Luton and we still stayed up.
In 2022/2023 at this stage of the season, we were 19th, one point off safety and we still stayed up.
In 2021/2022 at this stage of the season, we were 3rd in the Championship, with only 3 points separating us and Sheffield United in 7th. We finished 4th and in the playoffs by 10 points, going on to win it.

We know about pressure situations as a fan base and while it might not have been about Champions League football, we've had a season where we've had to hold our nerve to get back into the Premierleague after 23 seasons, a season where we've had to hold our nerve to stay in the Premierleague after being miles off it and a season where we've had points taken from us and we had to fight off relegation.

This club knows about f***ing pressure. Now our pressure situation is a trip to Wembley and hopefully attaining Champions League football, I don't know about any one else but that's the right kind of pressure.

Anyways, the point is lads, to quote Forza's Tifo last year, "Shut everything out and play your game."

The easiest way not to overreact is to go back and review what you (not you personally!) were saying a couple of weeks ago.

Most folk on here had us down to losing to Villa, and having a tough game vs Everton. I reckon most people would have had us at 3pts max from those two games, with a significant minority thinking 1 point was likely, myself included.

Same applies to Newcastle and Man City, there were a number of folk on here, myself included, who called out their fixtures and pointed to a possible late surge.

In that regard, I feel like Forest are now just where I expected them to be. It's a little blip, it happened a few times already this season but we've recovered.

Looking forward now, has anything materially different changed about Forest to think we won't get back to winning ways like we have done previously? We're slightly weaker without Aina granted, but with Wood and Elanga coming back that reverts us to near full strength, and we are coming into a run of three fixtures which on paper look significantly easier than the two we've just had.

Most analysts have us down as finishing top 5. There's no reason to disagree at this moment.

I think the pessimism stems from fans only going of the latest performance, and I get that. We were outplayed in every department in a match most had pencilled in for 3 points.

We certainly need to improve on that but also not everyone we face is going to play like Moyes' Everton. City head there this weekend, I expect it to be tough for them too. We'll know that and all the other results by the time we play Spurs.

The fixtures and points on the board still favour us to get at least fifth.
Villa have Newcastle, City, Fulham, and Bmouth next.
Chelsea have Fulham, a good version of Everton, Liverpool, and Newcastle.

The only issue I have with this weekend's fixtures is that we play last, meaning there may well be an extra weight on the lads depending on how other results go.

Still, Spurs play away tonight and if you want to achieve special things you've got to earn it. I think we'll do it...

Exit: and I still want second, because why not?
