Champion's League??

I think this is a win win for us, if Villa somehow get thorough tonight, it will take a lot out of them mentally and physically and will maybe distracted by the CL.

If they are knocked out, their PL form might peter out too. Just like I suspected Newcastle might kick on after their cup win, a loss for Villa might have the opposite effect rather than giving them more motivation for the remaining Premier league matches. Next up are Newcastle and City within 4 days of each other.

Most Villa fans think we should with the PL at a canter and the CL is in the bag. Its nice to have fans that are not entirely bias, but I do post on VillaTalk, I like Forest though
Fair enough mate and yeah the 2 clubs always have seemed quite aligned but don't worry we have our fair share of them fans some of the meltdowns over our result Saturday (not so much on here) whilst we sit in 3rd are unbelievable

I agree, if Villa win this, we would have to take our eye off the league. It is not often u get a chance to win eh CL and a 2 leg semi against Arsenal would be very welcome. Emery would have to switch off from the PL and put 100% focus on CL. Not saying we would win, but a one off game we can beat anyone on our day

So close yet so far for Villa. Good effort by them but hopefully a demoralising enough evening to ruin their confidence ahead of our match at the weekend...

Jason Tindall to rock up in a Le Coq Sportif hoodie to rattle them further

Hopefully that sort of arrogance transfers to your team. As for Tindall......

Villa have shown us what you can aspire to when you have a squad with quality in depth.

However I think our team currently still has enough to get that last CL place and then continue to build in the summer.

Arrogance 😂 if they were playing forest would you not want them to be demoralised by a good effort that fell short?? It's the ideal scenario ahead of playing them, and I'm sure they'll want us to have a similar game with Palace tonight - which is certainly within us.

Arrogance would be saying we'd topple them with no help. I've already said 1000 times that I expect us to get beat off then, I'll take any help we can get, and them being ran into the ground after last night is as much as we're going to get. It's also better for you if we win, in my opinion, so I'm not sure why you'd be hopeful it transfers to our team.

The hoodie reference was tongue in cheek to the completely bizarre 20 man brawl that ensued after he wore a wham hoodie in the reverse fixture.

Tindall is absolutely sound. Not sure why opposition fans are so rattled by him. He's one of the quietest, softest spoken blokes I've ever met.

Strange logic there if I might say so.

Not being in the CL does 2 things for Villa;

1. Less games and a 100% focus on Prem
2. Coming so close to a CL Semifinal will surely increase the players desire to get back there next year.

A Villa win last night was far more preferable for us and they picked up no injuries and didn't go past 90 mins. All in all, not good.

I agree that from a Forest perspective it is better if Villa lose to you on Saturday. You will probably be above us already after your Palace game and therefore it makes total sense that we should want teams above us to beat the likes of Villa, Chelsea and Man City.

Agree with that - from a geordie perspective…

A draw would be good - always helps when rival teams share 2 points rather than 3…
Not in this case mate where we are very close to the end of the season and we just need to finish 5th. If we lose to Spurs we don't want both rivals gaining 1 on us. We want Villa and Chelsea to lose. It doesn't then matter if Man City and Newcastle win all theirs as we will grab 5th.

If only it were that simple.
So many permutations - just minimise the number of points allocated elsewhere imho.
And you’re happy to just hand two of the Champions League places to Newcastle & Man City leaving only one to fight for? 💁‍♂️

Yeah, there are a few twists and turns yet for sure. I doubt Newcastle will keep up their current form until the end of the season, for one.

My point is that we won't need to fight very hard for that final place if Man City and Newcastle do us a favor and beat all our near opponents like Villa and Chelsea.

We've had roughly the same PPG as Liverpool since December, so it's not impossible that we'll maintain form, but I do agree that we'll likely drop off, especially with Howe being unwell.

Palace and Villa are extremely tough fixtures for us, both teams play in a way that we struggle with. Tonight in particular gives me similar vibes to the Bournemouth game at SJP.

‘Won’t need to fight very hard’?!
I’ve take a pint of what you’ve been drinking.

If Man City & Newcastle beat Villa then with no further information we'd be:
- 3 points clear of them
- They'd only have 4 games left
- We'd have 6 games
- We'd have a superior goal difference of 12, effectively giving us an additional point at that late stage.

We would finish above Villa in that scenario, probably doing so with only a victory for Leicester and a couple of other draws. That would be enough.

Chelsea are inconsistent and aside from Newcastle also face Liverpool and Fulham before they face us, at the CG.

I'm with the group of folk who say let Newcastle & Man City beat them both. Newcastle and Man City are in red hot form and have the fixtures to overhaul us regardless. Our aim needs to be top five, and the likely scenario discounting us for a second is that Newcastle and City finish above Chelsea and Villa. So, as long as we're above Chelsea and Villa, that'll do us.

I hadn't realised Villa's GD was so poor. Just assumed ours was the worst of the runners. Could make all the difference. They also have tricky final trips to Bournemouth and Utd
