Best Performance by a Red

I put together a worst XI on the the other thread so here is my best. Playing 4-4-2 and only includes players that have played for us since I started supporting (mid-90s).

Crossley

Cash
Dawson
Cooper
Pearce

Stone
Gemmill
Bohinen
Reid

Collymore
Van Hoijdonk

No real surprises there I'd imagine...

Can't pick out a single game from it but the season when Pearce scored 19 goals (was it?) from left back was incredible. I remember Keane controlling games as a kid too, and earlier Nigel Clough and Webb. Collymore on his day was unplayable too. We've been treated over the years...

Kjetil Osvold's Cat

Kingsley Black
Bohinen vs Leicester in 94 definitely came to mind too (even as an attacking midfielder who didn't score, despite hitting the bar with one of his chips, or directly assist a goal too - I remember, because I went to the game but taped the TV footage too, that Jimmy Greaves gave MOTM to Scot Gemmill who did score two excellent goals that day, although I got the impression whoever the commentator was might have been leaning to Bohinen I think).

What about others from the League Championship or European Cup winning seasons (a few have been mentioned already)? Woodcock vs Liverpool looks a good call from the extended highlights, in the European Cup game in 78/79. From reports and I Believe in Miracles footage, I wonder about Robertson in the League Cup vs Villa or West Ham in 77/78 - maybe some of you went to those games?

Gary Crosby vs Liverpool in 87/88 (the home game obviously) could be up there?

Trevor Francis vs Southampton in one of his last Forest games in 81/82 (again, judging by highlights, plus the fact he said himself he'd played very well in the Deep Into the Forest book I remember)?

How about Steve Hodge or Peter Davenport from this game at the end of that 81/82 season?
That suggests Hodge wasn't on the pitch when the goals went in but that's not right, as shown here (and he's said he played well enough to get a contract, otherwise might have been heading to Scunthorpe or somewhere hasn't he?)

I might be going too much on just the goals and assists respectively but Collymore at Peterborough in 93/94, Nigel Clough in the 1989 Simod Cup Final?

Withe v Ipswich 77/78 season. Four goals took us back to the top and we stayed there for the rest of the season.

Viv Anderson
Barry Mckay against QPR. Ripped his full back to shreds. It looked as if we had a real star but he was shite in the next game and never did any good for us again. Shame.

Another good list,Yeezy-but I’d make 3 changes-De Vries for Crossley,Jenas for Gemmill and Campbell
for Van Hooijdonk.

If my memory serves me correct, it was a midweek game.

Tony Woodcock ran the Saints ragged in the 2nd half.
I lost my wallet in the Wembley car park but was given a ticket by a helpful policeman while asking if anyone had found it. (It was handed in by a Saints fan and I later got it back.)

So I watched from ground level behind one goal, not a great position. Still rated Birtles MOM at the time and wouldn't change my mind after seeing extended highlights from a better viewpoint. Phenomenal hold up play.

Woodcock was often superb (and scored the third that day with a Dalgleishesque finish), but I'd give this one to Birtles.

I remember Keane against Norwich in 90/91. We'd seen enough by now to know how good the kid was but this game showed us the levels he could reach. Still only 19 at the time but already running things.
I remember that was in the FA cup right? God he toyed with their midfield

Great finishes-but I reckon his 2 goals at Sunderland that season were even better.
You’re right there, but those goals at the Hawthorns came when Forest were under greater pressure to get results. We needed a cool head in front of goal and there we had one.

The game at Sunderland came only 6 days after the win at West Brom-those 2 wins really instilled belief
into the team after a poor start to the season.
Stan was certainly on fire at Forest.

Only six days after? Ah, fair dos, I had in my head that the Roker Park game was over the festive period.

Mid-Late November, sat in the clock stand spotted another well known Forest fan a few rows behind me, quick nod to each other,

Stan was 👌 but got to give the Forest fans credit reckon it’s the most that’s ever travelled to Roker park, this was backed by someone working for Sunderland, double guns from the entire Roker end when Stan notched, it’s stayed with me as I seen it from the side and above.

then after the game there was a right old punch up outside. 😂😂

I went to Roker Park a few times and Forest never seemed to take a big following there-but on this
occasion they did and were rewarded with a masterclass by Stan.

We’re you rolling about outside Cloughie ?

I was meeting a girl from Nottingham after the game outside the ground (Roker pie shop) we were hugging each other and jumping about while people were getting clattered 😂🥊
