He can add another relegation to his CV.

Southampton, barring massive improvement, are basically relegation fodder. Even we managed to play them off the park at their own place and we basically only win an away match every 6,000 years.

Looks like it's going to be a permanent move too. I mean he's definitely an upgrade on what they've got, but there's so many issues with that side I don't think even Peter Schmeichel at his prime would save them.

Sort of confirms my original thoughts, I think he is being massively overhyped on here. The fee seems reasonable, so you have to ask why it appears only Southampton are in for him? Decent shot stopper but liable to a clanger and below average with the ball at his feet.

In fairness Wolves wanted him too but we're priced out.

Wolves and Southampton are hardly ringing endorsements though.

I don't think he is a bad 'keeper, I just doing think he is £20m and significantly more in wages better than what we currently have.

Yeah I think we are priced out too (and that Wolves and Southampton might say the same about us!).

Ramsdale definitely isn't the be all and end all of goalkeeping though, I agree.

He's gonna be a busy boy this season. Needs to play to reignite his career so see why he's moved.

Saints is a gamble though, I still see them dropping straight back down.

Mate at work is a Sheff Utr fan (and surprisingly a decent fella!!). He always said there was a big dropoff from Henderson in goal their 1st season and then Ramsdale in goal their 2nd season. Decent keeper but agree with your view, always liable to a clanger and not great with his feet. I wouldn't rate him as being a big upgrade on Sels so money is better spent elsewhere for now.

I still think I'd like to have signed him but Southampton seems a really strange move, nothing to do with status of the club but more because of Russell and his million pass set up which sees the keeper get loads of touches and playing out from the back.

He didn't do it well when he had the likes of Gabriel, Saliba and Xhaka in front of him, its not going to be easier doing it being protected by Southamptons defence who were like chocolate teapots when we played them (KWP aside).

I mean don't get me wrong, he's a coup for Southampton for sure. They've basically got a 107 year old Alex McCarthy, an injured Gavin Bazunu and a largely useless Joe Lumley. Ramsdale is about as significant an upgrade as you can get and will probably save them a few points here and there - even if he's probably not the best fit for their passing system.

But it's definitely a very strange move for Ramsdale career wise. Unless Southampton drastically improve they're almost certainly going to be relegated. They looked absolutely miles off it against us and didn't pose even a vague threat to Sels' goal. It is early days but they're going to be cut adrift if they don't improve substantially - and Ramsdale isn't going to be happy playing in the Championship.

Just seems odd that he's basically gone from being number one for a title chasing club to having so little in the way of options that he's now signing for a team that's almost certain to be stuck in and around the relegation zone all year.

I guess time will tell and maybe he'll be vindicated. At least he'll be back playing again.

That's what I don't understand about this.
Russell Martin insists his goalkeeper plays the ball out from the back and then they sign a keeper who's biggest weakness is playing the ball out from the back

They're virtually the same keeper.
Good shot stoppers, play to the crowd, and useless with their feet. Ramsdale has a mistake in him which Henderson didn't seem to, but then I can't remember Ramsdale being beaten with every shot outside of the box.

Sels isn't spectacular but I can live with steady thanks.

Ramsdale is decent, probably better than Sels but not £20m better. I'd much rather the funds go towards a forward.

Wasn't it reported that they wanted around £50m from us when we enquired about him in late July?

I wonder if we offered them more than what Southampton are paying before trying the loan option.
