Clearly Otis, the Wray/Scholar takeover was a disaster for Forest(we still haven’t recovered). It could probably have been so different however had Sandy Anderson's consortium taken control at that time.
Like one of the more prominant members of his group, Nigel Doughty, Anderson was a Forest season-ticket-holder with the best intentions, as opposed to the carpetbagger, Wray, and the tyre-kicker, Grant Bovey.
I attended the FA Cup 3rd Round tie at home to Portsmouth that season in front of a paltry 10,000 City GroundI stopped going during that Wray/Scholar time half way through a season despite having a season ticket. I got fed up with having my weekends ruined by profiteering parasites.
Clearly Otis,the Wray/Scholar takeover was a disaster for Forest(we still haven’t recovered).
However,we don’t know for sure that the Anderson group would have been a success either-given that it included
Nigel Doughty(God rest his soul),sadly, although a fan,he presided over our worst ever league finish.
As for the shareholders,I think it’s slightly unfair to tar them all with the same brush-I suspect quite a few
we’re just ordinary supporters who didn’t really know which deal was best for the club(although some undoubtedly
took the money and run).
I don’t think the transfer kitty was a problem when Wray and Scholar originally took over,Otis-we spent plentyAnderson's deal was for all of the money from his offer to go straight into the club coffers Cloughie, rather than shareholders' pockets. It would have meant a considerable transfer kitty.
As I mentioned previously, a decent proportion of the shareholders fully supported the Anderson bid, though sadly not enough when it came to the final vote to outnumber the "club legend's" choice.
Might want to look at a fat f*** former scouser...
Has anyone heard from Dane since Sunday?
No.
But then I wouldn't hear from him most days, seeing as he has no idea who I am.
Nonsense. Who hasn’t heard of your long matchday thread winning run.
I don’t think the transfer kitty was a problem when Wray and Scholar originally took over,Otis-we spent plenty
of money to allow Bassett to assemble a promotion winning side(including £4.5m on Pierre Van Hooijdonk).
The problem was in the summer of 1998 when further significant investment was needed to secure our place in the
top flight(considerably more than the £3m creamed off by the shareholders).
I think the board realised they had bitten off more than they could chew, realised they couldn’t make a profit
due to it being a bottomless pit(and the failed share issue) and bailed out.
