I'd always assumed that if Johnson wasn't allowed in this year's accounts we'd be ok pretty much the year after because of that sale and the way amortisation works. Mangala sale too. Am I wrong?
I could be wrong but I think the situation is that if both the Johnson and Mangala sales fall in this year's accounts we'd pretty much break even. I'm basing this on the document that came with the points deduction that said we're projecting a £12-15m loss this season, and there's an "option" for Lyon to buy Mangala for £15m at the end of the season (it depends whether this option is included in the projection obviously). Plus various other options which are probably unlikely to come off, Worrall, Panzo, ?.

So that would mean -£40m, -£52m ,£0 = £92m against a £83m allowance - so potentially a £9m breach if we do nothing.

If (big if) the following season though it would be -£52m ,£0, ??? against an £105m allowance. Again I don't think the new rules are coming in next season yet? So if my assumptions are correct (obviously I could be talking out my arse :)) we'd be able to lose £63m in 2024/25 without falling foul of FFP. A lot of this would probably be swallowed up by amortisation costs, but we surely wouldn't have to let star players go unless the price was right. The wage bill ought to be smaller as well with the number of players out of contract this season.

There would of couse still be a £9m breach if we just break even in 2023/24, but given Everton got two points deducted following a £63m loss, and a £16m total breach, I'd like to see the PL try and give us more than that 🤷‍♂️.

That said, I would like to see us make as many sales of fringe players as it takes in June to really get on top of it and stay on the right side of the rules. But after that we should be OK. Until the next random spending spree anyway.

Mangala's loan runs to 30th June so I guess the sale would appear in next year's figures.
Yes - I had wondered about that but in this case we really ought to be able to back date it into this years accounts if that suits us right? The deal's been done since January. Genuinely don't know really.

Similarly, I guess Lyon can put it next seasons outgoings as I assume is their intention, like us with the Wood deal.

Thanks for taking the time. Fwiw I expect movement in and out - I think Morgan has got the the point where bigger clubs are sitting up and noticing now, and Murillo, as much as he is a Rolls Royce, is replaceable (albeit with a different skillset). I'm expecting one or both to leave...

There is of course the strong possibility that the club are bullshitting / over-optimistic in their forecasts for this season’s numbers so the need to sell in June may well be greater than I’m suggesting here.

But things ought to look better after that if we stay up.

Deals ain't getting done in June I'm telling you now. Players f*** off on holiday and we've got the Euros this year. Very rarely we see any transfers during an international competition and the clubs that will be offering the kind of money we want will need to move players out first too.

No, the deal cannot be completed until July which is next years accounts. The reason we had a 3 game buy clause for wood was to push his triggering clause to outside the transfer window and into next transfer window and therefore next years accounts. You don't get to choose which year the money goes into.

He's overhyped here anyway.

Keeps trying those 60 yard shots, never going to score one in a million years. Heck couldn't even beat Johnstone from 5 yards in that match. A showoff with no end product.

Can't head for toffee, seems to make last ditch saves because positioning is wrong in the first place.

I could carry on... but he has at least got age in his side, although I am not even sure he's 21, looks older, need to check the passport.

Ok though I’m sure I read you could extend the accounting period into July on request? Not sure why we didn’t do this last summer though.

In any case wouldn’t the fact that the deal has been agreed ahead of time count as a so-called “golden mitigation” against a shortfall of that size in the accounts?

Before you know it we’ll have the Brentford lads back explaining to us that £20m for Murillo is a good price, actually, and we should consider ourselves lucky to get that.
I hope they try and make their bid via WhatsApp again. Or is it going to be TikTok or Snapchat this time around?

Either:

We need ££
The clubs who want him have £££££
Start at £100m
I'd rather keep him but will take >100m

Or
2nd breach is 2 points.
Keep Murillo and I'll take 2 points deducted.

No chance we get given just 2 points if we breach again, Everton only got 2 to avoid double jeopardy which is f***ing stupid btw.
We would get more than 4 you would imagine.

This

Morgan and Murillo will get us more than 2 points next season and especially in the former case might be harder to replace without spending some of the fees anyway.

If the deduction for a repeat breach is indeed set as two points we might as well keep both and take this hit

If this is what Branthwaite is being touted at then it gives you some idea of potential we could get for Murillo

Don't watch much football other than Forest but any time i've seen Everton, Branthwaite looks out his depth.
If we sell Murillo for 20m (i doubt it) i'm watching Gresley Rovers instead next season

Just think, before Palmer pulled his pants down he must've been worth about €130m.
