So was Jordan Henderson and there's absolutely no chance he is getting paid the same at Ajax. Anyone returning from Saudi is going to have to take a massive haircut.
that's the thing, it isn't the player wanting to move , his contract is till 2027 on huge wages, why on earth would he take a paycut now ?

He might be unhappy though and this is the club pushing it out to save face for the them.

El Kaabi?
Would be a red flag for me similar to Scarpa.

He's 30.

Most of his career has been spent in the Moroccan league, apart from a short spell in Qatar and a spell in China.

He's done Ok for Oly but this is the first year he's really played at a high level.

He's also only 182 so probably not too strong at holding it up

Signing El Kaabi on the basis of a couple of good games against Aston Villa is exactly the sort of thing the club rightly gets slated for. So I expect to see him here by August 😜
Aaron Davies is outside and wants a word

If he's 182 then surely its more likely that he'll sign for Derby, might have to earn his stripes in the younger age groups first but could be a good move all round.

He's not a player for the Premier. He's a magnificent finisher, a very hard worker, great positionally, but cannot do the other things required from a CF in top tier. He cannot dribble, or combine quickly with others, or pass the ball with accuracy, or shoot from a distance.

Hes exactly the same as Origi really, except for the magnificent finishing (Unless all you can eat buffets count), hard work (Again unless all you can eat buffets count) and great positioning (Once again unless all you can eat buffets count).

In the Red column:

Biancone - sold to Olympiakos
Freuler - part-exchange for Dominguez.
Hennessy - we needed cover.
O’Brien - probably still worth that.
Richards - not his fault he was injured.
Scarpa - broke even - sold for 4m.

I’d put those in the Average column.
Agree with most of this. Hennessey being a ‘bad’ signing is a particularly odd one for me. He was a free, signed as a back up, and was the number two all last season, and will leave at the end of the season in which he was in theory third option until the two guys ahead of him proved to be a liability and we had to get someone else in. Frankly i’d still put him ahead of Vlach if he’s fit. This is the way of things with backup keepers.

As a fan base, I feel we always right players off too soon.

I did with Williams, even though he was only 21. I did the same with Wood at the start of the season. Both of which have played their best football under Nuno.

I’m not saying the original poster did, as it’s easy to see that none of those Red players are currently here / adding current value to us as a club. Just a general observation.

The biggest annoyances for me are the players themselves:

Dennis - was clearly a good player.
Shelvey - poor attitude.
Vlach - who could’ve guessed he’d be so bad?!

Freuler is thriving in a different league, Lingard no doubt sparked the player arrivals.

Ignoring the media circus we’ve done brilliantly with our signings.

Our loans are probably the most disappointing aspect. Origi standing out as a complete waste.

Reiss Nelson would be a good loan (with an OTB - if he’s interested) next season.

He’s 24 and has only played 1300 minutes (equivalent of 15 games in his Arsenal career) with 4 goals and 2 assists.

In the Bundesliga, 629 minutes (7 games) with 7 goals and 1 assist.

Barkley would be a great replacement for Kouyate and would add some serious ability and presence in midfield. If Luton drop down, he’s unlikely to stay. He could be available on a free also.

Richards could negate our need for a new LB.

A Boly type CB, an up and coming LB / RB, an up and coming AM / LW…and a FWD.

Hopefully we can all start swarming the Transfer Forum come 5pm today 👍🏼

I don't think Barkley and MGW could play in the same team and we couldn't realistically rotate them.

From a business/PSR POV it would make sense to sacrifice MGW and bring in Barkley on a free, but that would be very painful.

Barkley's been playing deeper this season hasn't he? Regardless, he'll have better offers than us with the season he's had. United strongly linked.
