Underappreciated Forest Goals

Roy's goal, the fourth. Warm day, Trent end being built and relocated to the lower bridgford and we battered them and Bryan felt like a genuine world class player. I was 10 and desperate for him to score.
Who else had that Forest back with a Vengeance video from that season which I think has about our first 12 games on it for Christmas?

Forest v Bristol City
Dexter Blackstock..................

It didn't save us from relegation in its own right, but my god it put a marker down - "NOT WITHOUT A FIGHT!"

This was the last time I cried at a football match (aside from a couple of tears at Wembley 2021)

Or, to quote our vintage user Goatboy...

The 2nd most dramatic goal I’ve seen following Forest-only beaten by Martin O’Neill’s headed
late equaliser at QPR in the 5th Round of the FA Cup in 1978 (with Forest going for the treble).

Nigel Clough’s free-kick at West Ham in ‘88. One of the great forgotten Forest goals, made all the more remarkable by his restrained celebration. I would have run down the other end of the pitch and jumped in the away end. Clough made do with a couple of high-fives.

Speaking of West Ham-Andy Reid’s snorter at Upton Park in 2003 lingers in the memory.

Not so much the quality of the goal, but I remember Trevor Francis rescuing a point for us in the last 15 minutes home to (?) Bolton, after a 2-1 defeat looked certain.

That preserved our unbeaten home record which eventually lasted over two years.

Mind you, it was so long ago my memory may be playing tricks.

Also underappreciated in the sense that I don't think they're on video...a couple of games early in Forest's dream season after getting promoted, when they went on to win the league.

West Ham (league cup) 5-0 - I remember a ball played over the top for Woodcock who just nodded it down into his own path before running on and smashing it home.

Ipswich (league) 4-0 - can't remember individual goals but Withe scored all four, and Paul Cooper in their goal prevented us getting double figures. As the Football Post used to say (occasionally), 'wave after wave of Forest attacks'.

Also, an early Birtles classic in the game when Colin Barrett broke his leg (you could hear it all round the ground), in a win over Middlesbrough. Left two defenders standing, probably a nutmeg involved, before drilling a crisp low shot inside the post.

A good memory,Ubik-but it was 1-1 with a last minute goal (I think it was Trevor Francis’ (R.I.P.) first gosl
for Forest).

Saw the Blackstock goal from Bridgford end of Clough stand, much dancing up and down and manly hugs. That goal saved us.

Ian Woan vs Newcastle, but not the one everyone thinks of... around the 2 minute mark in this video...

Never tire of watching Storey-Moore’s third in the FA Cup quarter final against Everton 👊
I may have said before - one of my crowd had a rich dad, they had a movie projector and a screen, and you could buy the MOTD highlights, so we clubbed together and sat and watched them over and over.

It was cool that you could play it backwards, so the ball travels the length of the pitch, lands on the keeper's foot, and he effortlessly cushions it into his hands...but what a match, and probably ISM's finest hour.

Pereira-it was a great goal,Omar (against Birmingham on a Friday night).
Cracking goal! As I recall, he got the ball at right back deep in our half, dinked it over an opponent and ran round him, charged forward diagonally towards the inside left position, played it out to Osborn on the left, then ran into the box to take the return pass and score. I remember thinking it didn’t get the credit it deserved at the time.

For such a famous goal in our history, I’m always surprised how often he’s described as scoring at the third attempt when it was actually the fourth! I was too young to have seen it at the time, but I knew all about it long before I saw a clip of it, thanks to my dad bringing me up in the faith…

Forest Everton, Simod Cup Final 1989 - Garry Parker.

This was the best goal ever scored at old Wembley.

Trap ball in 6 yard box from opposition corner, pass to Clough, one touch to Parker.....

Start at about 3 mins 20. Enjoy!

One of my favourite all-time Forest goals. Apart from Parker’s run and finish, two things I love about this goal are Dessie calmly running forward with the ball in his own penalty area rather than hoofing it and Clough’s magnificent first-time pass on the turn. If a Man City player did that these days you’d never hear the end of it.

I was at that QPR game as my dad thought it might be our year and said he’d take me and my brother to any away FA Cup ties as well as the home ones. We weren’t used to losing (I’ll pause a moment here to let anyone under 50 imagine what that must be like) and really thought we were out of the cup and then MON came to the rescue in injury time. I can still remember overhearing a sporting but slightly grudging “They deserved it” from a Rangers fan as we left the ground.

I remember all of those. At the Ipswich game the Trent End gave Mick Mills a hard time after some comments he’d made about us - there were constant taunts of “Hang your boots up, Mickey Mills” as we thrashed them.
