There was by that point.

The second game after the Executive Stand opened was a League Cup quarter-final replay against West Ham in
December 1979 and it p*ssed down with no roof (to compound matters the game went to extra-time before Forest eventually won 3-0).
I stand corrected! Could have sworn there was nothing above me which is why I was so cold 🥶🥶🥶

Forest played a friendly at the CG v Tampa Bay Rowdies in October 1980. At the time, "soccer" in the USA was trying to launch itself as a big time sport. Pele at New York Cosmos, George Best, Rodney Marsh among others signed up for various teams. Our own Trevor Francis was playing in Detroit in the Summer, much to Cloughie's disapproval.

Don't remember much about the game, but I do remember US style cheerleaders and a baseball demonstration at h/t. Forest won 7-1 in front of a crowd of 18k. (Looked up that last bit.)
I went to that game. As well as the cheerleaders they had a live organist playing over the tannoy. You’d have silence while nothing was happening in midfield then the organ would suddenly burst into life as an attack built. As I recall the organist had trouble keeping up, so the ball would be blazed over the bar into the Bridgford End and the music would reach a crescendo about 3 seconds later. It’s a wonder it never caught on….

Trent Bridge has had better food offerings for years now. They have street food and local bars in. All at affordable prices.
I think “affordable” is working quite hard there. I went to a day of the Test Match last summer and the range of food was very good but although I enjoyed my well-filled pastie (spiced veg, I think it was) I had to pay 7 or 8 quid for the privilege.

Beats a dead organist... or me

My last gig at the City Ground was REM about 20 years ago. Poured it down with rain all night and because we have a low roof main stand the rain blew into the singers face throughout the gig lol . We’ve been needing a new stand for years just to help hosting concerts but did notice for Take That they put the stage in front of the main stand which looked much better.
I was there and only yesterday I was wearing the tour T-shirt I bought at the gig. There were towels on stage to mop up the torrents and Michael Stipe eventually went barefoot as his shoes were so wet. “Ah, a summer’s day in Notting-ham”, I recall him saying once between songs.

I understand expanding / building a new Forest stadium to get more fans in to watch Forest

I completely don't understand or buy this theory that we can make shitloads of money hosting concerts and NFL etc

Yes you can make money from that shit in London because it's the captial but sorry no-one is travelling to West Bridgford to watch the Dallas Twatpirates vs the Florida F**ktrumpets or whoever
Get the Cleveland Browns at the City Ground and my niece, her husband and their son will be there. They went to London to watch them and included a trip to Cleveland to watch them on a trip to the US.

Looking at at Wikipedia there are a couple of teams in Nottinghamshire, a couple in Lincoln, plus some in Coventry, Leeds, Stoke, Birmingham, Doncaster. I'm sure that there are a lot of people who watch the Superbowl north of Watford Gap that might like to take in a game. Personally I find American football about as interesting as cricket, but for some reason some people do actually like it. If someone is going to try hosting the odd game why not Forest at the City Ground?

Costs of building a new stand alone are enormous, let alone a whole ground. For a facility used once every fortnight (possibly slightly more often with successful Cup competitions) for nine months of the year, only a simple cretin would consider such a thing.

So any and every trick must be included in the build to make it a multi-function ground capable of hosting all types of events, from simple meetings of local groups to world class concerts of all types and even other sporting events.

Sat in E2 for tonight’s U21 Cup Final (well done the U21s!!!).
I now agree that stand needs to be rebuilt.
No Stanchions in the new build please.
The Peter Taylor Stand really is not good enough.
Quite frankly Captain, that stand hasn't been good enough since it was rebuilt in 1968 to exactly the same footprint and design (using concrete instead of wood) as the one that burned down. I stood in there that afternoon and my season-card seat is in there now.

It's simply a matter of economics and, this is important, status and symbolism. The old days of chip shop owners, the local butcher or greengrocers in blazers making business decisions are long gone, and rightly so. The decisions are no longer made by people with a very limited world view ("I wish everything was like it was in 1950" sort of thing) or by people who are cognitively challenged in some way, the decisions are made by successful, hard headed business and by political leaders who can see the big picture.

Big stadium schemes in Europe and elsewhere have paid for themselves in a relatively short time. It can be done.

The atmosphere can be very good in the Peter Taylor family area but the stand and facilities are dire: grade D when we should be aiming for A+.

It’s also very jarring when games are televised and the drone shows an aerial view of the City Ground- the Peter Taylor side is frankly embarrassing.

Nothing on the RBC planning portal.

Next RBC planning committee meeting is on 15 May but we aren’t on the agenda.
I had a look this morning and noticed we weren't on the agenda. Thought I might have missed it but you have confirmed it for me thank you. Very disappointed to say the least.

That could be because of the private discussions that are going on. It'll appear on the Agenda when everyone's ducks are in a row, and not before.

True, it could be because of discussions/meetings/clarifications similar to pre-app discussions which can take ages, are exceptionally detailed, and move at a snails pace.

I don’t work in planning but as part of my job am regularly consulted as part of pre-app discussions (and often have multiple meetings with the architect at an early stage) and then consulted again as part of the formal planning process. Lots of reading of plans and documents with at times lengthy responses and site visits when nearing completion and I’m only one tiny subset of a large planning new build or building conversion.

It’s like wading through treacle, the process is so laborious. And the City Ground is not a small project.

Private discussions? You claim to know that are going on? Just how exactly?
I don't think you're being unreasonable to pose that question, but by the same token, given sensitive issues such as rights to light and air that probably need to be overcome, it's perfectly reasonable to assume things are happening discreetly in the background in an attempt to ultimately make the Bridgford End upgrade planning permission process far more smoother than was previously the case with the Taylor Stand and the apartment blocks. Perhaps to ensure that when the application is finally lodged, approval will be something of a formality?

Just out of interest, what's your take?

If the club and Rushcliffe are not holding discussions, which will be confidential at this stage, then that could only mean one thing.
I am confident that talks remain ongoing.
This and your earlier reply (and that of Mr H also) are correct. It’s also likely that conversations are taking place with statutory consultees in the planning process including the highway authority (NCC). RBC as the local authority must pay proper regard to the views of statutory consultees. It’s highly likely that the views of the statutory consultees will be influenced by the response to their requirements on essential works by the applicant (the club).

The club will wish to ensure that RBC will support its application before it finally submits it. Otherwise there will be further delays. In the vast majority of applications officer recommendations are approved by elected members, although not always, especially when there is a loud and vocal local opposition.

Therefore the club will be carefully managing the process by taking appropriate advice, and holding exhaustive discussions with RBC and others, to ensure its application will receive a favourable outcome.

Despite the pressure from supporters we must trust our owner. This is a massive investment by the Club and it must be done properly if we are to see the necessary increase in capacity; the better facilities for supporters, players and staff; and the ability to drive up revenue from the site on match and non match days.

My take on it? I am completely in the dark along with the rest of the fan base. I am extremely interested in the project as I believe successful progress is vital to the future success of the club. I don't claim "to know" anything and am irritated by poster/posters who do.

It is entirely possible though that some people do know certain things about it given the scale of the project and the amount of people involved.

Understandably, they have to be careful what information they give out due to its sensitive nature and so they aren't jeopardising their own positions.

I get little bits of information myself on the footballing side (there's others here that do too) from time to time and whilst wanting to give you guys a bit of information where I can, I would never give anything that would cause the source to have issues or anything that could be detrimental to the club.
