Outdoor gigs are completely different to indoor ones and are very much in demand and a growing part of the UK entertainment industry.
Apart from Derby! They’ve moved their very popular summer session concerts from Markeaton Park to a new indoor venue in the city centre. Where the old Pink Coconut used to be for those who remember it.
Upset just about everyone who bought a ticket for that outdoor, summer experience!

Working in Derbyshire, I know a few folk pissed off about that!

That's actually quite a bit different for a couple of reasons. Partly because they had problems over the licensing to use Markeaton. But also they weren't actually outdoor gigs but in a massive marquee!

Agreed, there is a good reason. But it is not lack of demand from NFL fans, it is that those stadiums do not have the facilities the NFL require.
Have you seen the size of them - changing rooms need to be about 4 times bigger!

Demand isn’t the problem for NFL - stadium needs to be built to accommodate them which spuds did and I believe have a long term contact in place.

I just hope that we hear some news (whatever it may be) soon as it's been dragging on for what feels like a lifetime!

The Bridgford Fish Bar does a roaring trade when the cricket is on.
I understand why venues want to go into the catering business, but I still say: let the local catering businesses around the grounds enjoy the benefits of living in the shadow of a venue, and earn money doing what they do so well.
As for more alcohol being sold at venues... that means more louts bobbing up and down during play, to go and empty their bulging bladders.
It is all a distraction from what the venue is there for: to host a sporting spectacle.
And another thing... if people can't read which entrance to use to get to their seat (the signs are clear enough, then why should I have to keep getting up to let these lost souls disturb everyone because of their lack of taking time to find the entrance they should use.
There was chatter last week, about trials on allowing people to drink at their seat, at football grounds.

Having suffered many idiots at the cricket, I shall not be getting up to allow people to fetch yet another pint whilst the game is going on.

And I will quite happily throw the first punch, when someone launches a pint when we score.

As much as I love Trent Bridge, I wouldn't use it as a good example.

Everything is massively overpriced and the quality is distinctly average compared with the very local offerings (TBI) or that slightly further afield (Trent Nav, Embankment, Stratford Haven).

The only good thing is that for county championship matches you can take your own beer in.
Beg to differ .

For the bigger occasions the TBI operates a bar that faces that you can access from the ground as does the Larwood. So it's the same quality , it is priced up to give parity to the inhouse Greene King type offer. Add that to the machines dispensing beer to alleiviate queue length and you have choice. Castle Rock. Wethers finest cask beer or industrial lager . And then the food - choice again. Indian. Italian. Pies. Burgers .

Frankly, if I were Forest, I would do a deal with someone like the Nav and subcontract the bars . It's not easy to shift large amoungts of quality product quickly - the TBI do it very well on Test Match days -

Forest would lose some margin but make it back on the volume sold

Regarding the above, there are only so many times that you can pay £15 for a portion of fish and chips that resembles a child's meal.

And that number is one.

Pints over £6.

And the stuff they serve from the Larwood hatch is some of the worst I've ever tasted.

PLIC cup tonight at the WFCG, Forest B v Lyon B (there's a stadium to behold btw).
If you go along you'll be able to sample the food and beverage offer, if you are daft enough! Tonight will show just how truly dreadful it is. Then, the toilet facilities, the WFCG is seriously in need of a massive upgrade in all areas.
Go along if you can and cheer on the B team, I can't go because of work and that's a shame because I wanted to see what talent we have at that level.
U Reds.

The Larwood hatch is actually their cellar . It's the same stuff that they dispense from their pub bar.

The point is at Trent Bridge you have choice.

I made my first ever visit to Selhurst Park on Monday, and was heartened to see a stadium struggling even more than Forest for space and decent facilities. It was a reminder that it’s not just us. Great place with a lot of soul though.

Agree: it was my third trip to Selhurst Park on Monday but first for around 20 years and while it has character, the facilities, like Forest’s, are abysmal.

Yes, you do have choice.

One of those choices is not to bother, and I'm fine with that.

And if Forest do something similar then I doubt I'd bother with that either.

The problem both venues have is that their infrequent use means that they cannot have permanent staff for the food and drink outlets, so they have to get someone else to sort it for them. They (the clubs) could choose to manage it better, but they don't seem to bother.

At the Ice Arena a pint was over £9 when I went there last month. And that is primarily an entertainment venue that is in use more frequently that both of the sports grounds.

There must be the possibility to provide quality and value for money. If they choose not to do that then that really is a clear expression of how they deem their "customers" (aka fans).

Looks like their redevelopment plans are as fraught as our own

Yes, but at least their new stand will be enormous rather than our pitiful 5k increase.

We have observed for many years on this forum that Forests non-football revenue is minimal compared to other clubs.

When the Club announced plans in 2019 to redevelop the City Ground it made clear the intention to generate revenue on the site on non-match days. Most responses on the forum welcomed this proposal.

Many responses to the options in the survey, and the wider discussion on other options for non match day revenue generation seem quite negative. Whilst we will all have a personal view on each proposal, surely we support the initiative to deliver a positive step change in club revenues.

If we want the Club to remain competitive in the Premier League we need to raise revenue on both match day and non match days. Otherwise supporters will face a substantial and sustained hike in admission charges.

Of course there has to be a fair balance between traditional supporters and corporate/football tourists. Any additional revenues on non match days will lift the pressure on admission prices/season tickets.

It’s interesting to monitor how PL clubs are setting admission charges for next season. Fourteen clubs have announced season tickets prices for 2025/26. Of these seven have announced a freeze, and seven have announced increases. Everton’s increase follows the move to a new stadium, and Newcastles increase for many supporters follows a ten year standstill agreement.
Outside of these two exceptions Forest has announced the highest increase of all clubs - although some supporters have seen no increase.

In summary we should broadly welcome the clubs initiative to substantially increase revenues on non match days, and to secure greater corporate revenues on match day, but only on the basis that there is a fair balance for traditional supporters.

Forest played a friendly at the CG v Tampa Bay Rowdies in October 1980. At the time, "soccer" in the USA was trying to launch itself as a big time sport. Pele at New York Cosmos, George Best, Rodney Marsh among others signed up for various teams. Our own Trevor Francis was playing in Detroit in the Summer, much to Cloughie's disapproval.

Don't remember much about the game, but I do remember US style cheerleaders and a baseball demonstration at h/t. Forest won 7-1 in front of a crowd of 18k. (Looked up that last bit.)
Fun night! As I recall there was no roof on the Executive Stand at that point

There was by that point.

The second game after the Executive Stand opened was a League Cup quarter-final replay against West Ham in
December 1979 and it p*ssed down with no roof (to compound matters the game went to extra-time before Forest eventually won 3-0).
