The Midfield Main Man

Vaughan is good. Lansbury is clearly all-round the better footballer though. I don't see teams offering £4 million plus for Vaughan.

Vaughan and Lansbury are different types of player.
One is defensively savvy. Knowing when and how to carry out the art of tackling and when to move the ball.
The other is offensively stronger. Having the massive advantage of knowing when to make forward runs and when and how to attack space in the tight areas of just outside the oppositions 18 yard box.
They both add a lot to the team though. As does Reidy who pulls the strings.

That's probably because one is 23 and the other is 31!

Vaughan was voted player of the season in Blackpool's promotion season, over Charlie Adam. Do you remember just how good Charlie Adam was that season? He dominated the league. I think we might be underestimating the impact Vaughan can have

I'm not underestimating the impact Vaughan can have. He's a very good player. It just goes to show how highly I rate Lansbury. Of the two, Vaughan may just about shade passing ability and awareness, but Lansbury is stronger, quicker and will score more goals. Really, they complement each other nicely, along with Reid.

If Osborn ends up replacing Lansbury, it'll be three small, left-footed passers in the midfield. They are too alike, in my opinion.

Again that's because of his age, not long ago vaughan was in the midfield of a team threatening the top 6 of English football.

That's fine, I want Vaughan in the team! But it doesn't change the fact that we need a midfielder who has the qualities of Lansbury, he knits the side together with his dynamic, all-round game. The closest we have is Cohen, but he won't score as many or keep the ball quite as well.

I think I'm just trying to convince myself that we'll be alright without Henri, because it seems inevitable that he's off. The two of them together would be a force though, I agree pal

I think Henri is one of the very few we haven't got a direct replacement for.

Vaughan is a very different type of player to Lansbury as stated. Vaughan allows the creative and attacking players to do what they do , see at blackpool when he has Charlie adam alongside him although blackpool played a 4-3-3 formation and Vaughan is playing more towards the left.

I don't think we have anyone to replace Lansbury's attacking threat, however now we have Vaughan the impact will be greatly reduced, it also allows Reid to go forward more.

I just think this season Vaughan could prove to be more influential this season all be it for different reasons.

I think both Lansbury and Vaughan really helped us get the best out of Reid.

Fawaz said a stadium name change could be useful for FFP purposes.

The Henri Lansbury City Ground Stadium? (If he puts the writing on the contract and not the wall after all).

If we go 4-2-3-1 Saturday we may see McLaughlin there next to Osborn. McLaughlin did play some games back end of last in the middle like v Leeds. Would also imagine with Jorge Grant subbed at HT v Burton he may have some involvement Saturday.

Also lets hope Ben grabs his chance this season. No one has played more minutes than him in pre-season I imagine.

Ben Osborn can fill Lansbury void, says Nottingham Forest coach Eastick

"It is unfortunate that he (Lansbury) will be missing. With injuries like this you do sometimes fear it will be longer, so we are happy about that. But, as one of my old mentors used to say, there are no problems in life, only opportunities.

"Ben put in two really good performances out in Portugal and did well again here. He played very, very well and is catching the manager's eye, that is for sure."

That is the one of the great things about our current set-up. Opportunities will be offered to those who deserve it, especially talking about the young and in-experienced. They will say good luck son, grab your opportunity.

I can see Osborne surpassing Henri in time purely because he's being given a chance.

At 23 if he was ever going to be a cemented international he'd have caps under his belt by now and would already be in the top 10 of the prem

I think we will see Osborn go the way of Thornhill and many others before him. Tidy enough but come on.

Just trying to get in the mood. Some are saying an uncapped 23 year old with miniscule PL games (4 cup games IIRC) Could walk into Everton

I think he has alot more about him than that, if he keeps his head down and continues his hard work he should reach Lansbury's level if not higher. It's worth remembering that he only turned 20 this week.
