The Midfield Main Man

I will start off by Stating that my Opinion on the sale of Henri Lansbury is that, If he doesn't want to be here, then he shouldn't be. We have heard many times that this guy is the difference between us and the Premier League, but is he?

He has been in the Championship and League 1 since 2008-2009 and has only made it past 30 appearances a season 3 times, For Watford (2009/10) and for us the last two seasons, (32 in 2012/13 and 30 last season.) He has scored 27 goals in since he left Arsenal. It's hard to admit for us as fans due to the amount we rely on him each time he's on the pitch, but I do not think he will reach the potential some of us saw in him all that time ago. This is highlighted by the caliber of the teams making offers.

I decided to focus this thread on a pretty much overshadowed talent who has been fantastic each time he has pulled on the shirt and doesn't have the hot headedness or the biscuityness of Henri. I think the real link for us next season will be David Vaughan.

Going back to 2007 he was plying his trade with Real Sociedad in the Spanish second league, as we all know the football played there is a very fluid passing game, He managed to get 9 appearances and 1 goal.

Blackpool then came calling and he became a major part in their promotion push, the first season appearing 35 times, then 46 times in 2009/10 then made 35 appearances in the Premier League for them, He got an offer to join Sunderland and totaled 59 appearances at a premier league level, including being a part of the Sunderland team that were incredibly close to the top 6.

I don't think we need to find a 'replacement' for Henri at all, IMO we already have one, that man is David Vaughan.

Everyone is banging on about Henri. We missed Reid more last season than when Lansbury was out.

while i don't think losing lansbury would be a disaster, him and vaughan are entirely different players that offer different qualities - think we need both the kind of energy henri offers and the calm head, reading of the game and positional discipline vaughan brings.

oh, and i think they give one another a good race towards the biscuit tin on the evidence thus far.

He was always gonna be one of those players that was only here for 2 or 3 years, no chance of him being a career Forest lad. I've enjoyed watching him play and wish him well. Ship in the new talent

Nailed it. I couldn't agree more - Vaughn is one of my favourite Forest players and an absolute talent in the centre of the field.

He is one ugly bastard though.

Vaughan is the sort of player who ties the midfield together, makes it a unit, gives it shape and balance. With Reid and Cohen it would still be incredibly strong.

I was comparing the impact they both have and that vaughan isn't actually a biscuit.

Re: Reid, by far our best player, him and vaughan would walk into any championship team

He looks like the type of bloke who would be happy working as a fisherman. An absolutely classic look

I think Cohen could substitute for henris energy. Pearce has apparently took a liking to Fox so left back slot could be his or wing back if he's going three at the back. Midfield three of Cohen, Reid and Vaughan with Osborne flitting in and out and pato, with Halford in there when needs be sounds.more than capable to me
In fact in Osborne maybe we have a ready replacement for Lansbury. He can tackle pass and has a great engine from what I saw.
Feels so much better than talking of Mousse, Raddy and Greening.

Lansbury is mint he is our best techinal player and he can run games, Vaughan is a terrier and I like him but Lansbury is in the top two with Reid at the club.

Have you ever watched Vaughan play? A "terrier" is nothing like how he plays the game.

I was surprised by how technical Vaughan was. He can spray it about and could also dribble, something I had never given him credit for. Always saw him as a Gillett type before we signed him.

If we are talking about promotion this season, we need them both, and fit for the majority of the season. A strong midfield protects the defence and creates the attacks, 1 or the other is not enough, 2 quality midfielders are essential! Place along side that central two any combination of, Reid, Pato, Burke, osborn and we are, as it stands, strong in goal, defence and in the middle, just a goal scorer and we are a very good side.

But we don't need him that's the thing. We've got enough to get out of this league without him. If it was the case that he's that influential then we would have had loads of bids for him. I'd much rather have vaughan in the side, at least there's a chance we will get more than 32 games out of him.

Of course I have watched him he gets everywhere on the field of play he is the defensive player of the trio Lansbury Vaughan and Reid. I never said he couldnt pass a ball something but Lansbury is better than him on a moblility, Passing and Skill and there vision is the same in my view. Vaughan is still class I like him I just rate Lansbury more.

Midfielders are the easiest players to find. It's not the end of the world if he goes.

Oh I don't know. He has a kind of gothic charm.
