If by "the Rangers job" you mean working behind the bar in the Sherwood Ranger, Ravenshead then I agree with you
F*** that they would lose me as a customer for sure.

Not really.

The two play off seasons were good, but then we had the season with McClaren then Fawaz coming in before EM managed to progress the club and even that took a few changes and a lot of players (Fawaz did bring in a lot of players and managers too including a spell with KB).

If we'd managed to ride the crest of 2010-12 into some more play off finishes maybe. But pretty much every appointment FAH made was worse than the previous one which is why we almost went down in the end. Only Davies had us near the top 6 really. Montanier might have worked with a better defence but all told was a terrible appointment and Warburton was similar enough to not fix the issues, then Karanka and O'Neill had to make the club more solid defensively. If anything the foundations of promotion were laid there, for it to click under Lamouchi, and albeit with a blip under Hughton, when Cooper took the shackles off we went up.

There wasn't really any connections with either Davies era by that point still at the club, nor were there in the promotion season, Ryan Yates and Joe Worrall were still in school, and Reidy joined the summer after the play off seasons though did play in the 2nd spell.

I suppose the closest thing which is accurate is the season after promotion we were going down under Calderwood but Davies turned it around quite easily. I doubt Calderwood was going to do anything like that so a change of manager was needed then but how many other CH managers could have done that? Pemberton had already beaten City and Norwich whilst in caretaker charge so the turn around had started to happen when Calderwood left. I guess also with Calderwood he took us up at the 3rd attempt and whilst we were favourites to go up every season in L1 we still only managed the promotion on the last day and others may have managed it quicker. Paul Lambert managed Colchester on the opening day one season against a relegated Norwich side, beat them 7-1, replaced Bryan Gunn as their manager and won promotion at the first attempt. So it is possible even for a relegated "big" club to come straight back. And I think we are still the highest level he's managed at (spent a fair amount of time as an assistant though) so not sure he was as good as he gets credit for. Though the outcome was what we needed...

I'm worried Alf has cracked and created a new account just to have a conversation about Billy Davies.
