Liverpool are looking at some serious fixture congestion.

They have 7 more games than us before the break, with only a single week where they don’t play twice:

2 C.Cup SF’s
2 CL games
1 C.Cup Final
2 CL R16 games

Their re-arranged Everton (A) fixture rarely goes to plan. They lost at Everton last season, but won in 2016 and 2021, with a further six draws!

If (when) Liverpool reach the C.Cup Final their Man City (A) fixture will need to be re-arranged.

As Liverpool only have two free midweek slots before the March international break), and one is for Everton (if City reach the CL Playoffs), then City (A) needs to be played after the international break.

If they reach the CL SF’s and FA Cup SF their run after the break could look like this:

FAC QF
Everton
Fulham (A)
CL QF

West Ham
CL QF
Leicester (A)
City (A) - re-arranged
FAC SF (Spurs would need to be re-arranged)
CL SF
Chelsea (A)
CL SF
Arsenal
Spurs
- re-arranged game
FAC Final? (Brighton to be re-arranged)
Brighton (A) - re-arranged
Palace
CL Final?

Again, that’s two games a week right up to the end of the season. Thats a horrific run of games.

So, I’m hoping for:

Liverpool to reach, but lose the C.Cup final to Newcastle, who they play and lose to again 3 days after.

Liverpool to reach the FA Cup final, but lose to anyone, hopefully us!

Liverpool to reach, but lose the CL SFs.

Liverpool are exhausted…and drop points in multiple games.

…We beat Chelsea at home on the last day to secure the title, with Chelsea fielding a weekend side as they play the ECL final just 3 days after.

Liverpool end the season with zero trophies….TAA and Salah leave on a free… Slot gets sacked…and is replaced by Gerrard.

Now…all we need to do to set the wheels in motion….is beat Liverpool at home.

Personally, I’d settle for any finish that sees us in Europe…but I would absolutely love to see those smug scousers end up with f*** all.

Being serious we will definitely have a bad few weeks and drop down the league a touch but if your not a title challenger when sat 2nd just after Christmas you never will be.

If we somehow beat Liverpool in a few weeks we’re actually winning it.

I’m very confident we will end up in the European places though which is crazy considering where we started the year.

As well as obviously falling away into mid-table, seems to be a media assumption that we’ll do the right thing and let some of our finest move on in January, to the bigger and better clubs… which I guess can only mean Liverpool. Not sure how much money they have.

I don’t see many football talkers considering that we might actually get stronger in the window. Baffles me how anyone could watch Marinakis over the last 3 years and think he’d consciously weaken his hand from this position. Absolutely no chance. Go hard or go home.

I'd be incredibly surprised if we lost anyone important in January. Unless someone lodged an insane bid that would be foolish to turn down.

Just had a quick look at the table again. 6 points ahead of Man City. Imagine if anyone had said that to us in August. We'd have thought they were mad.

What a half season we've had so far.

im expecting a massive bid from city for murillo. They need to sort out their backline. Utd would be desperate for our players too if Sir Rat wasnt too busy cutting costs. they dont have a pot to piss in.

The good thing about having marinakis is his ambition is even higher than ours not getting into a European competition from this position half way through would be be classed as disastrous by him he won't let any of this first team squad go in January I just can't see it no matter what the price the summer will be different though

Yes, he will want to build it (and not send our loan left back back to Aston Villa to save money).

I've not worked out the maths, but if you were to compare the cost of Man Utd's backline to our own, the difference would be insane.

I’m sure we can all read the bbc pages but they have the latest Opta stats up and the assumption seems to be we’re the underdog in a straight fight with Newcastle for 5th and champions league football.

Nice place to be, and an understandable forecast I think. Little bit of investment (and a fair wind on injuries) could make all the difference. I certainly wouldn’t be selling Elanga to the Geordies this window.

Unless EM has been conning everyone and about to sell £400million of players and then announce a £2 per ordinary share dividend .

Might have to rely on the 5th spot for champions league spot, think Liverpool, Arsenal, City (will get their shit together sooner or later) and Newcastle look strong.
Chelsea to drop out of the top 5.
Doesn't matter what the others do, if we can carry on our form. Beat Wolves then draw/beat Liverpool and who knows, next big test after is the Newcastle, Arsenal, Citeh set of fixtures.
That's probably why they have those teams above us, as they'd be expected to turn us over.

Regardless of where we finish, we've proven we belong this year but we ain't done yet.

My thoughts on the CL.

We win the title against Chelsea, by beating Chelsea on the last day of the season.

Liverpool drop points leaving us one point ahead on the final day. Chelsea field a weakened side as they play in the ECL final.

The reason I say this, is that I’ve got two hospitality tickets vs Chelsea on the last day of the season (with my Dad)!!!

We’ve never been to a game together, so only fitting that our first (and likely last) game together is winning the title.

Note* hospitality is bloody expensive! But better than trying to find tickets and him getting knocked over in the rush.
