• All - you probably don't need to be told, but....
Despite the Admins' best efforts some spammers/scammers/scalpers are getting through the entry system and are, astonishingly, in possession of FA Cup tickets that they, astonishingly, don't want!

It's probably a scam, and either way it's a criminal offence under section 166 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, (as amended by the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006) to offer or expose tickets for sale.

Please DO NOT engage with these people - please REPORT any threads/posts offering tickets for sale in case we've not caught them.
    Thanks!

Change of subject: Forest are flying this season, and doing the double is still a possibility (remote, but possible). European competition next season is a probability.
However, what do Forum members think our Premier League position will be next season?
Maintaining and improving on this season is going to be a big, big challenge.
Will we repeat the glory that is ours today, or is it a flash in the pan?

Based on the effects it's had on Newcastle and Villa in the last couple of years I think the extra mental and physical demands on the squad that most of the players won't be used to (basically playing a Championship style season, weekend/mid-week) will see us fall back a bit. The club should be stronger overall in the long term but for next season expect a bit of a drop off in the league, but would still be hopeful of chasing a Europa spot in the 7th / 8th position.

I think it will genuinely depend on how many of our current squad we can keep together.
Recruitment is difficult to stay good/lucky at, over a long period, if we start to lose the stars that we have found.

That's my feeling too - we are so dependent on the recruitment/retention/riddance equation being in perfect balance!
This summer's transfer window is going to absolutely crucial... again!

The Premier League is an arms-race. We're now at the end of the table where we are competing with clubs who can, in real terms(and perhaps more importantly FFP terms), throw bags more cash at their own recruitment and retention, which gives them a whole lot more room for error and risks.

Agreed-I think it’s highly plausible that we might see a drop off in league results if (as seems likely) we reach Europe.
We definitely need more quality in depth given the extra games that European competition brings-it then comes down to recruitment and the ability to retain our best players (as you say) when the big boys come calling.
Our likely prognosis next season will be much clear when the summer window closes-I think it’s sure to be a busy one.

Much as I'd love to do great in Europe, given the state of our squad and our youth setup, I think we should be aiming for league position and taking anything that happens in Europe as a bonus.

We are going to have a short squad for Europe anyway so concentrate on keeping the extra money from qualifying coming year on year. Three wins and a couple of draws has you roundabout qualifying for the knockout stages anyway so target the matches to win if necessary.

Worst thing that can happen is we spend lots on wages and fees in the Summer and then don't qualify for Europe again as we will be back into panic sell mode at the end of the season to keep paying for them.

Getting to Europe is crucial to us having a fighting chance to retain the likes of Murillo and even MGW.
And retaining European status for next season is also important (as is winning the european competition we qualify for).
The players already earn bucket loads of money.
What motivates them now is the prospect of domestic trophies, European Trophies, and international selection.

I agree. We went all in when trying for European Cup, FA Cup, League Cup etc and we did fine, so let's go now. We're not going to win them all, but you never know which one you will win.

If Nottingham Forest start to lose or haemorrhage the quality players to our rivals then as Leicester we're looking at possible relegation. Why? Other Clubs are now realising and challenging acquiring our targeted players, especially since finding Murillo. Thus when our network of scouts identify a possible hidden talent, the Top Six Clubs utilise their financial clout or European Football outlook to simply entice their Agent and Player. Simply this Club can't financially compete currently.

Another issue that could cause similar problems is through overstretching our First team and Squad players through European Football. All the evidence highlight that playing in Europe does affect domestic performances and consequently results and league position suffer. Worringly the difference between Top six Clubs and relegation sides are marginal, just think what would happen if Chris Woods was injured, or players form and confidence suffered, or simply players leave i.e. Aina. The team loses cohesion, and balance.

Ironically we're at a crossroads. Invest well, through acquiring future players that would improve our overall first team and squad. Although more importantly keep the current crop of players especially Ola Aina. We should cement our place in the Premiership for another season. It honestly feels like the aftermath of the 1994-5 season all over again. If we make a stupid mistake like then by selling key players like Lars Bohenin(Blackburn 1995) and Collymore (Liverpool 1995) our chances will rapidly diminish. So ultimately Forest need to communicate with all senior players and their agents and mutually commit for another season to chase for success at Domestic and European level

Unfortunately cannot commit to Premiership position this term let alone next season as there are too many variables currently.

I can only ask that you excuse me, but I'm a little confused as to your overall point mate. Are you suggesting that we concentrate on establishing ourselves in the PL before having a go for Europe?
If you are, how does that work?

CS asked what position would Nottingham Forest attain next season?

My view would be in simple terms is that there are too many variables to predict next season. Although still extremely concerned about retention of key players, so whilst any form of European Football is important, if not careful the club could be dragged into a fight for Premiership survival. Both go hand in hand, not mutally separate. Our depth of squad is so worrying thin that to loose a first team player through injury, form or sale could affect performances and results.

Just got a message from an engineer in Africa I worked with over 15 years ago to say he is pleased Forest are back.

Nick Hornby was correct you remember friends and colleagues by the football clubs they follow.

Happy with top half tbh. Forest are absolutely way ahead of the plan EM stated, those incremental improvements are happening regardless, fans base juts needs to go with it in the same way we’ve gone with Nuno

Fall off to seventh in the league but a glorious night in Budapest results in a third star above our beautiful tree.

I am often keen to criticise Forest for mucking-up fairly simple stuff, but I have to applaud them on this one:

I didn't know he said that and I'd not thought about it but he's absolutely correct. In the last week I've had a message off someone that I've not spoken to for 5 years and another from someone 20 years ago.

I've just seen something that described us as "the club that invented giant killing, then became the giant"

Nothing to add, I just really liked it.

I collect Forest trading cards and since we got promoted there's been loads of new ones as the US are mad on them and there's more over there than here.

I've just come across this, which is an utterly bizarre choice for a Forest card. Yes, that says 23/24 season.
