Looked like a carthorse when he came on yesterday. Caused some problems due to brute strength alone but first touch, decision making, technique was all dreadful.

I'm really hoping it's a mix of not quite being fit and/or confidence rather than the injuries/surgery causing a long term, non-fixable change in him.

As I said in a couple of threads yesterday, given we bought him back from a serious injury/operation so early his game management will have seen him barely train, especially in the three game weeks.

He'll get up to speed soon enough - not having a game this week (and reduced time to have to recover from yesterday) will do him the world of good, as will the return of Wood to take some of the pressure off.

Agree. He looked totally unfit, like his movement was restricted.

A knife-edge match v Liverpool wasn’t the time to bring him on. Origi was doing quite well and there was no need to change. We’d have been better off letting Taiwo recover properly.

He’s looking less fit every week, luckily Wood is back in training ready to save the season for us.

Fitness issues are clearly at play, given he struggled to keep up with Van Dyke a few minutes after coming on. Whether that explains the otherwise two left footed technical performance is another debate.

When Woods fit, Taiwos third choice behind him & Origi for me.

9-goal Wood is behind one-goal-nicked-off-Felipe Origi? He's been improved recently but let's not go overboard.

Wait, I think I misread - Taiwo is third choice??

Don't remember giving the full order, just put Taiwo at the bottom. If theres something about his miscontrol of everything, crap hold up, missing chances & coughing up of killer goals your endorsing then fair play to you.

He's clearly not fit though.

Now it probably works both ways to an extent but it may be the answer is minutes or it may be the answer is that he needs a rest.

He played 90 mins vs Man Utd but has rarely done this for us both this and last season, so no doubt he needed to be on the bench on Sat, but we can see the benefit to Wood of actually playing from the start not 10mins off the bench and also with Origi who has been better recently.

I don't think many would agree with the assessment that Taiwo is the worst of the 3 senior strikers at the club even on current form.

Just to be clear, my running order was on current form for selection purposes, rather than overall ability.

Fair enough. Still think that's a bit of a reach (good goal against West Ham for example) but agree that he looked poor on Saturday.

Problem for me is Taiwo looks a poorer fit for Nuno than Origi & Wood. We're asking our front man to get involved in deeper situations that seem to suit Origi & Wood who are clearly better players with back to goal. Taiwo on the half turn in the box is pretty deadly, outside of that, I'd argue he snuffs out more attacks than contributes.

he looks shit currently & the goall he coughed up Saturday doesnt have me in his corner, but given Wood & Origis resurgence of form, Id rather have either in the team.

Gary Birtles has said that apparently Awoniyi is permanently in pain. This is after his surgery and explains why he has performed the way he has recently. This is concerning though because it's not just fitness as we thought.

I mentioned last week we need to buy another striker as our main man. This confirms it for me now. It's definitely Keinan Davies MK II

Maybe just rushed him back too quick?

Bit early to tarnish the lad with the KD moniker. Might just need a few weeks, which he should get with the international break on the way and no midweek games anytime soon.

Did he use the same surgeon as Andy Reid? The one who sewed his balls on back to front aftern his groin op?

Yup!

(Edit: and Id point to him being on the pitch as evidence he's not KD mk2)

I'm a massive Awoniyi fan, it's just unfortunate that he can't stay fit. He seems to take a long while to get up to speed, but when he gets there he's occasionally unplayable.

Whether Forest can afford the fallow periods moving forward is a probably the key on-field decision of the summer.

I think his fitness will become less of an issue when the manager isn't spread so thinly between so many players.

Hard to keep an eye on how everyone is doing when you're lumbered with a silly squad size.

If Woody is fit then I'm happy for him and Origi to share the burden until Taiwo is fully ft and pain free. I can remember the nails from my studs penetrating the sole of my boot way back and it wasn't fun, so if that is a memory still with me after about 65 years, I can't imagine how uncomfortable he must be with real pain from an op.

I personally found that having a fairly bog-standard inguinal-hernia operation had some lasting effect, let alone the type of complicated groin procedure that Taiwo would have undergone. It may be that it will take the close-season break to eventually ensure that he's completely pain-free?
