Taiwo Micheal Awoniyi

When we reckon this guy will be announced?
Quite surprised it wasn't today, wasn't his medical yesterday?

Bugger all will happen over the weekend so I'm guessing Monday at the earliest (assuming it is still happening and he hasn't done a Verhoek).

Has he singed yet?
The assumption that all of the photos of him were taken today, interviews done etc and perhaps all be made official tomorrow?

Yeah, perhaps everything is all done and dusted today with an announcement to come later. I reckon he'll be announced on Monday with Henderson, assuming all is well.

Just glancing through the Union Berlin forum(While translating it lol). Most of them applaud him for his efforts and hate to see him go but a lot are also more about being very happy with the fee received. Which is a lot for a team like them and how they do things so fair enough. Win-win on both sides especially if he produces like we hope he can.

I get that people are understandably nervous but £17m for Awoniyi seems like decent business at the moment. The history of Premiership is littered with players who have cost more and delivered little so £17m while a club record for us is not that much by PL standards. Even looking at recent signings of strikers or wingers:
Everton's Alex Iwobi cost £27m
Spur's Steven Bergwijn cost £27m
West Ham United paid Eintracht Frankfurt £45million for Sebastian Haller
Newcastle paid Hoffenheim £39.6million for Joelinton
Alvaro Morata cost Chelsea £72 million
Alexei Sanchez cost Man Utd £30m
Leeds paid £27 for Rodrigo
Sofiane Boufal cost Southampton £17 million and scored just 7 goals.

Lets not forget as well that while we paid 13m for Carvalho we didn't shell out much anywhere else and even in the Championship there have been some very hefty fees for players ... of these only Neves would be approaching PL standard:
Matt Ritch £11m for Newcastle
Jordon Rhodes £10m for Boro
Scott Hogan £12m for Villa
Helder Costa £15m for Leeds
Boro paid £15m for Britt
Rueben Neves cost Wolves £15m

Yes only time will tell but we're going to have to pay these sorts of fees and we're gonna have failures.... just hopefully not for a long time..

Karlan Grant went to WBA for 17m and he’s crap.

If Awoniyi scores 8-10 goals next year then he’s worth the fee.

I understand your reasoning but if we want to stay up needs to get several more than that imo. We shall see.

7-10 will be more than enough if Brennan chips in with a similar amount as well.

If you are expecting more like 13-15 goals from him, look at the players that managed that last year! That is a massive ask.

If he gets into double figures he would have done very well. Especially if he’s not on pens.

Around 10 goals each from Awoniyi and Johnson should be more than enough. It's a very tough league and survivors of the Premier League sometimes don't have their main top scorer reaching double figures.

Just need to get others chipping in like Yates and the defenders from corners.

My main concern right now is getting in a really good midfield partner for Yates.

Goalkeeper should be fine with Henderson. Defence is solid enough as has been shown in FA Cup games and the Championship. But it's key we replace Garner with someone very alike. That balance in midfield is so important.

Yep, realistically you need 7-10 from your main attackers - and about 5 from one or two others from midfield and defence.

I think Yates will make the step up because his physicality and running into the box is such a leveller. I read that he got 7 goals last year from set pieces alone.

But we got to get a partner that can let him run into the box like he did all year.

Hodge really made me realise how effective Yates is when running into the box with his comments - saying he used to hate tall players that run into the box, because once they are infront of you - you are done.

For context here are top scorers for some of the clubs we'll hope to be amongst and 3 that we won't.

Wolves 6
Newcastle 8
Brighton 8
Villa 10
Everton 10
Southampton 10
Leeds 11
Arsenal 11
Chelsea 11

Burnley 9
Watford 10
Puki 11

The key is going to be having multiple threats, if he and BJ both get close to 10 and we get others chipping in that should be enough.

It’s not necessarily all about goals scored-it’s often about what a striker can do for the team i.e bringing
other players into the game and creating chances for teammates(that’s why I liked Davis so much).
The myth that a successful team needs a 20 goal a season striker is a load of bollocks-our Championship
winning side of 1977/78 had a joint top league goalscorer of 12 goals, however, most of the players
contributed with goals due to us being a superb team and not reliant on one player to find the net.
For me,I consider a really good striker is one with instant control with the ability to
hold the ball if necessary so that other players can join the attack(some pace helps as well!).
