Is Stevie happy?
I‘m adding 2+2 & getting 5 - but he hasn‘t been his usual self in recent interviews and he looks far from satisfied with life.
Add to this the delay in announcing a new contract ( sure I read something about no more than a 12 month extension? ).
Please - tell me I’m imagining all of this.

Channelling his inner Karanka? Doesn't seem very Coops to me.

As I said before, it'll all get sorted. He's going nowhere.

Making some sort of huge assumption there I think. Can't imagine why he wouldn't be happy, he's in the Prem with a rapidly improving squad and all the fans and management right behind him.

With the greatest of respect I think you are.

To me he doesn't sound any different to any of his "normal" interviews. Plus to be honest having to give an interview on pitch after a non-competitive game in 35 degree heat, he may well sound different.

It's all good. You have to remember he's having to manage a pre-season as well as negotiate his own contact as well as signing players.

It isn't going to happen overnight.

Not suggesting for a second that he’s off.
Speculating - nothing more - that all not as hunky dory as we would hope…
I'm with you on the thought process, and I've mentioned it on here but at the same time I know I've been quite selective in reading between the lines sceptically when he's in the same conversation talking about his love for the club, fans and staff.

I mean let's be honest we have a great track record of somehow snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in the past (Or at least failing to back managers at the right moment) but I genuinely think his demeanour is more around the progress he knows is needed and at present starting the season with a midfield of Colback and an injured Yates than anything to be worried about.

I also think his reticence to talk about his contract is more him wanting to focus on football.

We know he's a man who's obsessed with every detail of how we play so it's no surprise at all to me that he'd rather discuss that than his own personal affairs.

He is probably anxious for the huge challenge ahead of him, which is perfectly understandable. Last season was a nothing to lose upward trajectory. Staying on top (while having to change your entire team) is infinitely more difficult and I guess it weighs down on you.

Well the last thing we have to do is knee-jerk and fire him (it's a different matter if he quits).

Last time we did the mistake of sacking the manager who got us here, who was a serial promotion winner, and would probably have been the best placed to get us back.

Cooper has improved year on year in the CH and would be in play off contention again with the players we have and parachute payments if we do go down again.

Not to mention he did it all ahead of everyone's expectations in the first season, when we were bottom third last season, and had not won any of our first 7 games.

I think EM is intelligent, he is certainly a football person, and has experience in Greece and plenty here now of running a football club, the chopping and changing managers never works (not even if you're Watford) and we need to think about the long term plan for the club.

We have been out of the top flight for 23 years, which is a long time. We have had seasons in the third tier in that time. Even with less time outside the top flight, and with probably more backing than we have available, Man City went straight back down when they got promoted. But they stuck to the plan, largely, and went back up and stayed there before consolidating and becoming a force. (Though admittedly they did replace Royle with Keegan after going down). Now I'm not saying us winning the league with Pep Guardiola for years on end is the end of this but, we need to keep the faith and think about the long term plan.

Not being funny mate but I got to this point and stopped reading.

Why are we even talking about him being fired or him quitting?

He's just negotiating a contract. People need to chill the f*** out.
If you'd read the rest ;) you'll see I agree with you lol.

I seriously doubt the club will fire him. This is fine, for now. But if we suddenly go months without winning it might get mentioned. It shouldn't but some people who can't see past their nose will talk about it.

I don't think he's going to walk either, but at least if he does, that's not the club's fault.

As with anyone he deserves a new contract and a pay rise for getting us here. But the priority rightly has to be thinking about and planning for us staying here. If he doesn't appear bothered about a contract right now then that's fine. He's still under contract and we have more important things to think about.

You've completely missed my point.

Anyone raising even the possibility of us firing him or him resigning is just so far off the mark.

Can we just bloody relax please! He'll sign a new contract.

It was a counter to posts upthread that he was unhappy etc etc, I just didn't quote any because I couldn't be bothered lol ;)

Cooper was interviewed for the Burton post match presser and he stated a couple of times just how happy he is here and that he's really enjoyed everything.

Coops is a workaholic and has an unwaivering attention to detail. With promotion, Prem preparation, and complete squad overhaul required it's a mammoth task and it's all new for him. He'll be completely focussed on that.

Remember how many times Coops has mentioned that he always has this thought in the back of his mind hoping that he isn't letting anyone down. He is quite simply one of the most genuine and conscientious coaches in the game. He won't feel comfortable with the perception of him looking after his own circumstances until the bulk of the work has been done and then the squad is settled.

I'm very comfortable that all parties are completely at ease with one another and there is a huge amount of trust and respect between them. This will be boxed off as the season starts to get underway
